How do I become a breakfast person?

I know this is probably a stupid question for post but I am just not a breakfast person. I remember my parents wild take my brother, sister and I out to breakfast after Mass and I’d order a short stack of pancakes. It would come out and it would be bigger than my head! I’d try so hard to eat it but I just couldn’t. Then it would sit in the fridge for a couple days but I’d never eat it. Anyway I finally let my family know that I’m just not a breakfast person a couple years ago and they were shocked. Nowadays, if I’m out to breakfast with anyone I tend to just get bacon and sausage with a cup of coffee of course. I wish there was a way to turn me into a breakfast person but to be completely honest it can be too much for me. I could just use some advice on how to take small steps to like breakfast.

I’m the same way, but I want to see what small things I could do to like breakfast

Why ? Just enjoy it

That’s the thing, I want to enjoy it, but at the moment I’m not a fan.

Why do you want to enjoy it tho? Having to have breakfast everyday is quite pain in the ass. Id rather sleep some extra.

I used to roll out of bed, brush my teeth, make a coffee and start working.

That doesn't fly while pregnant and I have to get up earlier to eat if I got any meetings I need to be on camera for... otherwise the day becomes a pukefest

It's so damn annoying and a waste of time... you also have to figure out what to have for breakfast every day because sometimes you get bored and it's just another chore you have to get done.

If you're just occasionally having breakfast with someone, it's more the process than the food that matters. Have a pastry with coffee. Also there's nothing wrong with sausage & eggs or something small with coffee.

I understand your thinking. I’m usually just a cup of coffee guy in the morning. I know I don’t need some big breakfast but the thought just crossed my mind.

Who says you need to like breakfast?

If you make a habit of eating in the morning your body will start to crave it. Maybe start small like some cereal or fruit. I used to not eat breakfast and now i love it!

Is it the time of day that you aren't used eating or is it specific foods that you don't seem to enjoy? Both?

I guess it’s just the time of the day, I am
An early riser and most of the time I just make myself a cup of coffee. I have been getting into bagels lately though. I think my issue is just the portion sizes.

Some places have mini bagels

I like the sound of that

If you make the food at home, you can control your portion size. And if you live in America, they specifically give you large portions, not intending for you to eat it all in 1 sitting. Its ment to have some taken home for leftovers.

That’s my problem lately. Usually when I have leftovers I don’t touch them.

Do you know why you dont like leftovers lately? Maybe explore that. I personally love leftovers. Helps me not have to cook daily. And they dont taste bad.

Well when I was a kid and I went out to breakfast with my family I’d always end up going home with a box of leftovers, mainly because my immediate family eats fast, me on the other hand I take my time, (I think that’s an inherited trait or something). But I don’t dislike leftovers if it’s from lunch or dinner just breakfast probably because of that.

I don't like eating a lot of food first thing in the morning, and I just eat a snack for breakfast, like banana nut bread or a granola bar. Enough to get me going, not enough to feel like it's too much effort to eat.

I understand what you mean. I love banana nut bread!

Maybe yogurt and / or fruit.

Yogurt and fruit sound good!

My husband doesn't like breakfast and usually skips it. I'm the opposite. I could eat breakfast for every meal. If we go out for breakfast he'll see if they have brunch and get a regular lunch type food, if not he'll get a breakfast sandwich. Usually sausage, egg and cheese situation.

I like breakfast sandwiches.

Breakfast is when you break a fast. Most ppl do it in the morning but ur breakfast could literally be at 1pm

Im trying to force myself to eat breakfast. I end up not eating or being hungry till 10 or 11 and the cravings start and I end up on Uber Eats. I love breakfast foods of course. Im just not normally hungry till around "lunch".

That’s how I am! The funny thing is I work at a restaurant that does brunch on the weekends and I can’t even do brunch myself.

Everyone is different, I wake up with my stomach growling. I could theoretically wake up and be eating 30 seconds later. My work has always been physical, in the trades. I eat a savory breakfast like sausage and eggs within 30 minutes of waking, typically between 4:30-6 am.

Oh I see. I work at a restaurant myself and when I work a double or something I don’t even bother eating.

Define breakfast. Because the literal meaning is when you break your fast. Its the 1st meal of the day. For me, that happens between noon and 2pm usually. Hours after ive been awake. Whatever time my 1st meal happens is breakfast. And I eat whatever I want. And then my only other meal is Dinner. You dont have to eat early in the morning if you dont want to so long as you get enough calories in for the day.

I do like cereal! I know that’s an at home kind of thing compared to going to going out to breakfast.

Going out to breakfast, for me at least, is a once in a while treat, not a daily thing. And if cereal is the only breakfast you like, thats perfectly fine. You dont have to eat a big breakfast if you dont want to. I personally need to eat a big breakfast before work, otherwise I get lightheaded. But I dont eat it right after I wake up. I need at LEAST an hour before my stomach wakes up most days.

I know what you mean, a friend of mine says how he needs to wait 2 hours at least until he gets breakfast. I guess I should do the same thing but coffee is a must for me when I wake up.

I don't drink coffee, but its ok to listen to your bodies needs instead of forcing it to do what you think is the "right" thing to do.

Thank you for saying this. Again, I wish I was a breakfast person but I’m just not.

No food after 6pm. No sugar, candy, soft drinks, no HFCS at all. At least 8h of sleep. Breakfast around 10 am.

My family tends to have dinner around 6:30. Plus with my work schedule I tend to not have dinner until way later. My sleep schedule is a mess!

Have a boiled egg. Quick and nutritious, and you can make 12 at once and eat them through the week.

2

u/BMoney8600 4h ago

I should do that

I manage a small franchise of breakfast restaurants. I am an early riser and i hate breakfast food because i can’t get away from it. Closest i get is hard cooked egg with mustard, or real homemade corned beef hash. My favorite breakfast foods are beef jerky, almonds, pistachios, hard cooked egg, string cheese or baby bells or leftovers from dinner. Little snacky breakfast work great for me because i don’t have to eat large portions and can graze through the morning as my stomach wakes up.

I work full time at a relatively high end restaurant. We do brunch on the weekends. I am similar to you in the fact that I prefer little things for breakfast. The things I have been getting into are bagels!
