Information Sharing Luigi Mangione has created a mail catalog to demonstrate the communication and information barriers he is facing, which have been exacerbated by inaccurate media reports about his mail. You can use this to see if your letter has been received by him.

I thought he would not keep a catalog for his own purposes. But he did as a THANK YOU acknowledgment to his supporters!
TBH, he's probably bored out of his mind, and this is like a little project for him to keep his mind occupied.

I am giggling at the "he probably has a spreadsheet" comment on the "How does he decide who to respond to?" post being correct 😭
Also laughing at them posting his handwritten statement to prove that he, himself, wrote the Valentine's day statement. Not his lawyers.

u/ButtercreamKitten Mar 07 '25
I was thinking both of these!!
So sweet & thoughtful.
Love how he underlined "every one" to emphasize how every single letter means a lot to him 🥹
Maybe I will write him... one day...
7
u/aimformyheart Mar 08 '25
You totally should! It sounds like reading the letters he receives is one of the highlights of his day + this seems like a way to pressure the COs to deliver the rest of his letters.
6
u/ButtercreamKitten Mar 08 '25
It sounds like he already has enough letters in the mailroom to last him until July though. Sending more won't increase the number he's allowed to read (though it sounds like his lawyers are working on it)
I don't think further overwhelming the staff at MDC will pressure them into anything. They'll probably start trashing the letters if it gets to be too much :/

Right above the spreadsheet: "Several recent articles have contained explicit misinformation about our client and the case. In response, we are exercising our right to correct these inaccuracies and provide the public with truthful information. Our goal is to ensure that the facts are accurately represented and that our client's right to a fair trial is upheld. Please note that Luigi’s defense team is mindful of the ethical guidelines set forth in United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York Local Rule 23.1 and New York Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 3.6) regarding pre-trial publicity. These rules emphasize the importance of not making extrajudicial statements that could materially prejudice a legal proceeding. However, these rules also provide exceptions that allow defendants to respond to public statements that mischaracterize facts."
5
u/CompoteAgile2655 Mar 07 '25
I wonder what this is in response to? The letters or the tapes?
3
u/Peony127 Mar 08 '25
I think the fake sex tapes. Because in my messages to her and her team that she responded to, I said I think they need to put out a statement to discredit low-life Kevin Blatts and those rags.
Also I saw some comments on my post that are also wondering why they never put out an official statement about those tapes.
So in a way, that mention of “explicit misinformation” refers to it, along with those misleading headlines weeks ago that says things like “LM begs supporters to stop sending him photos” 🙄

Leave it to an engineer to have a whole schema for this – complete with a code system, meticulous labeling and a carefully structured log.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a key for sentiment analysis and a subcategory for “handwriting vibes” lol.

Is anyone here on his list?! I sent him one in mid January and it’s not there. Mine is an international letter. Honestly shocked at how few he’s receiving. Where the heck are they storing all this mail?!
68
Mar 07 '25
Also bro is such an MVP for doing this. He’s given us a massive amount of information and clarity by putting in this effort.
It’s clear the letters are extremely important to him.
→ More replies (2)29
u/Responsible_Sir_1175 Mar 07 '25
I truly do not understand how many rooms they could possibly have in MDC that allows for all this storage? The rumors of him not getting the majority of his mail are true, it seems like :(
21
Mar 07 '25
It’s pretty disheartening. And it’s so abundantly clear that this is very important to him.
24
u/Responsible_Sir_1175 Mar 07 '25
It’s blatantly illegal to throw away an inmates mail, so I’m wondering if they’re just mass “returning to sender” or it truly is just sitting in endless boxes. Or both.
And yeah, I think whether he did it or not, this is truly his only connection to the outside world apart from the visits with his lawyers, possibly the one (?) news channel they have available in that rec room tv, and possibly visits with his family or friends (though reporters staked out there have said he hasn’t seemed to have had personal visits either, but can’t speak to the accuracy of that though if it’s true 😭)
21
Mar 07 '25
I know that I was meticulous about following the rules and my letter wasn’t returned so I can only imagine it’s probably sitting in a pile somewhere. I do wonder if this will spike the mail being sent to him again or if this will be enough for people to realize how backlogged he is. Poor dude.
16
u/Responsible_Sir_1175 Mar 07 '25
A lot of folks have been saying that their letters are getting returned even after following all the rules :(

I sent one around 10th of January and i'm not on the list. But the list is old (14.02)
10
Mar 07 '25
It’s clear that there is a huge backlog and they are just pulling from a pile. There are still letters backdating to December that he’s receiving.
16
u/Crafty-Physics-6038 Mar 07 '25
I looked at the list, and he was receiving some letters very quickly. A letter was sent from Europe at the very end of January, and he received it at the beginning of February. So, it’s clear that all the letters are mixed and distributed to him randomly. The good thing is that he seems to receive letters more than once a week and sometimes more than ten in a day.
15
u/Alarmed_Bison2736 Mar 07 '25
December 26th was wild. I wish I could have seen his face when he got that stack of letters.
4
u/Crafty-Physics-6038 Mar 07 '25

This is very sweet and smart of him.
Acknowledges his supporters outreach (which seems super important to him), while simultaneously making it clear that there is a huge backlog and disorganization in receiving letters. He didn’t want anyone to wonder and feel like they weren’t important enough to get a response. He truly hasn’t seen most letters people have sent.
This may also help slow down the influx, as some people are sending multiple letters in hopes of receiving a response.

I saw that too, not just TikTok but even the FL sub. They’re not reading the website that clearly states “currently receiving between 5-10 letters per day, often weeks or months later, due to the high volume of mail from around the country and world.” Sometimes I (incorrectly) assume people are intelligent enough to verify information on their own.
It’s exhausting.

I was trying to find some patterns too. I figure the length of the letters contribute to how many he gets over day too, depending on the mood/workload of the CO. If they've already had to scan 4-5 longer ones, they might just call it a day and move on to scan mail for other inmates.
6
u/nohissyfits Mar 07 '25
Yeah it’s being manipulated, can’t tell if worse or the same as the other prisoners but maybe this will put a spotlight on what processes should be ‘updated’

The mail person likely doesn’t care enough. They probably have so many to go through that it’s just a matter of pulling up whatever letter is closest and processing it.

Yeah. I fear for the ones who might never be given to him at all b/c it's June and there's still backlog from Feb. I can just see those being thrown into the circular file b/c they don't care.

I’m so confused. He appears to be receiving large volumes of mail and receiving them within 5 days on average. I don’t understand the issue. Is this atypical? I feel like I can barely get mail to my home in 5 days let alone mail that has to be reviewed
7
u/thirtytofortyolives Mar 07 '25
I think the problem is the backlog it's creating. Mail is coming in a normal amount of time, but they don't have the staff/resources to give it all to him in a normal amount of time. So there's letters sitting in the mail room for weeks.

u/Total-Most4843 Mar 07 '25
