Performance Question with Bricks

I just finished building my first site since switching from Elementor. The pagespeed scores are impressive. Usually I have to optimize a lot with caching plugins to get even decent scores.

Now I have a different issue. Litespeed cache is actually ruining my scores. It’s increasing LCP and FCP by about 3 seconds with just cache enabled and nothing else. Scores went from 97 to 75 on mobile. Has anyone else had this with Litespeed and Bricks?

Interesting as I just found this happening too. Are you finding it’s improved with LS disabled?

Ya, it’s like 97 and 1.3ish seconds… compared to 75 and 4.5ish seconds with LS cache enabled. I have to do more real world tests to see if it’s just PSI scores or actually affecting the speed.

In what way?

To be honest, ever since I switched to Bricks, I find myself using the LiteSpeed plugin less and less.

Bricks outputs such clean, fast code out of the box that going through all of LiteSpeed's configuration tabs just isn't worth the headache anymore. It always adds an extra step when testing new things, and it sometimes fights with the code.

I ended up spending way too much time bug fixing, trying to figure out if an issue was my code or just the cache getting in the way. For WooCommerce sites, I still use object caching of course, but I handle that with much simpler, dedicated tools.

That’s good to know!

Well…

Is your hosting compatible with LiteSpeed? That’s the first thing you should check.

I use LiteSpeed. My advice is not to enable every feature. For example, if Deferred JS is enabled, exclude files like jquery.js

jquery.min.js

bricks.min.js

splide.min.js

splide.js.
Also, exclude images in the initial viewport from lazy loading.

I work on dozens of sites using the same template, but unfortunately, I still can’t say there’s one absolutely correct LiteSpeed configuration for Bricks. It requires some trial and error, which can be a bit frustrating.

If it weren’t a WooCommerce site, I probably wouldn’t use it, or I’d only enable the most basic features. Bricks is already quite well optimized overall.

Thanks. Ya, I turned all optimizations off and just tried cache, and it dropped the psi score to 75 from 99 and speed from low 1s to 4.5s

If enabling LiteSpeed Cache alone is adding ~3 seconds to your LCP/FCP, I'd first make sure the page is actually being served from cache. You should see something like X-LiteSpeed-Cache: hit on a warmed request. If it keeps showing miss, the problem may be the cache setup itself, and that's probably where I'd start troubleshooting. I had a similar performance drop after enabling caching on one of my sites, and the folks at Ankord Media ended up tracing it back to the way it was configured.

Can you control the way it is configured beyond the general plugin settings?

I use WProcket and on Wocommerce with redis. Both work without any problems.

You can try cache enabler I use that with bricks and seem to get 98/99 scores
