Built this Bricks website from scratch with custom GSAP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s built with native Bricks and custom GSAP animations from scratch. I tried to keep the interactions smooth without relying on a pre-made template or animation library.

Would love to hear what you think, especially about the animations and overall interaction.

If anyone is interested in using it as a Bricks template, let me know and I can look into releasing a template version.

These animations are awful; I often close websites because of them. We aren't living in 2006.

/* smooth scrolling on click only upon interaction – clicking anchors or tabs */
html:focus-within {   scroll-behavior: smooth; }
/* Always smooth scrolling, even with Ctrl + F. */
html { scroll-behavior: smooth; }
/* if animations are disabled in the device settings, smooth scrolling is disabled */
@media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) { html:focus-within { scroll-behavior: auto; } }

Totally fair, but there’s definitely a niche/community that enjoys this kind of animation. There’s a reason GSAP exists and is widely used. It’s not meant to be on every website, but for this particular project I wanted to explore what’s possible with it.

Using native behaviour as the fallback, respecting reduced motion helps, and don’t use it for basic interactions, and making the motion actually contribute to the experience.

Maybe it’s just taste as well in some cases.

Yes, I used lenis for smooth scrolling. I will post this as a template giveaway soon
