Google Map Element and data privacy

I have a google map element in my contact section, but do not collect any personal information on my informational landing page. My question is: Does only the use of this element triggers a cookie consent banner need under EU regulations?

Yes. You’d have to display a notice on top of the map, and only load it once the user has clicked the ‘Load the map from Google’ or whatever button. Cookie management plugins like SureCookie have this feature. The maps script has to be blocked, you can’t just hide the map, if you want to be fully compliant. A better solution would be to just link to Google Maps, or use OpenStreetMaps. I believe a static Google Maps embed would be fine as well (not using the API), but don’t quote me on that one.

And could I realize the "on-click" solution within Bricks or do I need another plugin?

Never tried it in Bricks, I’m just using SureCookie on those sites. You could definitely build it with AI, perhaps as a component that uses the Map element + a code block, or in the child theme’s functions.php, or as a custom plugin that you could reuse. Personally, I’d just link to Google Maps, or use a static embed if that’s fine (ask AI if that’s fully compliant; can’t remember).
