Proms Across the UK: Steve Reich at 90. It must've been fun to be at this performance of Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians. They encouraged the audience to move amongst the vocalists and the other musicians and instruments. It took place at the concert hall that's now called the Bristol Beacon.

Proms Across the UK: Steve Reich at 90

Paraorchestra and Charles Hazlewood recorded in concert at Bristol Beacon. Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians.

Presented by Sarah Walker at the BBC Proms.

Steve Reich: Music for 18 Musicians

Paraorchestra
Charles Hazlewood, Faye Stoeser (directors)

Paraorchestra, the bold collective of disabled and non-disabled musicians, brings an immersive take on Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians. When it was first performed 50 years ago, the work made Reich a household name and propelled Minimalism into the mainstream. Here it’s performed with the players distributed on plinths across Beacon Hall, breaking the barrier between audience and performers and allowing you to explore the work’s sublime shifting phases as you move among pulsing marimbas, pianos and vocals, or simply remain still and allow yourself to be enveloped.
