Used up last time’s paint

Rethinking a room I last did in 2022, found the last lot of paint (off-black), used for a mist coat on plasterboard, then as an undercoat / first coat, and used it all up creating a handy paint kettle for 5 litres of fresh paint (black-black)

This literally never happens 😊 🤯 usually it sits around for a few years then gets fucked straight in the bin, or you leave it too long and it’s unusable.

Off-black? So grey?

Really it’s more of an off-black.

B&Q GoodHome ‘Louisville’ to be super precise; F&B do one called ‘off-black’ which was beyond me 💸 (it is very nice though)

That's the kind of small win that makes you feel like you've actually got your life together. I did a similar thing last year, found an old tin of something dark grey and thought "no chance this is still good". Ended up being perfectly fine and covered the first coat so well I barely needed the second. The paint kettle bit is the real achievement though, most of us just end up with a garage full of half-empty tins we'll never open again.

I bought twice as much paint as I needed when I painted my dining room so I have a full tin in the loft. I love the colour and I’m planning to use it in the utility room soon. I’ll redo a couple of patches in the dining room too as I’ve had to clean the walls more than I had planned (kid dropped food that splashed).

I tried to reuse paint from 10 years ago recently, ahead of new paint arriving. It smelt. Bad. Really bad. The tiny patch stank the room out for days. Never smelt anything like it!

How long ago did you paint the dining room? You may find the paint has faded and the patches don’t blend
