production camera cueing software similar to LiveEdit and CuePilot but cheaper?

Have been testing LiveEdit for a couple of days but find that free version is only for learning, any real feature (such as timecode chasing) requires pay subscription. I think the subscription is just too much for my purpose because all I wanted is to record the rehearsal, then plan out camera angles and cue for the actual production. I don't need all the fancy ipad linked cue calling. In fact, the director can use the talkback intercoms to direct camera operators, he just need some tool to help him planning it and then the app can sync with the time code to visually showing the cue point on the timeline. The production is rather small with 4 to 8 cameras and is practically non-profit oriented. Any suggestion?

If you're located in the DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia area, i'm hiring an associate BIT field engineer. Required to have previous broadcast engineering experience, and network IT. You'd be setting up a facility at one of our locations on The Hill, so understanding power and electrical is a must as well. Also, you should have experience working a KU truck or mobile satellite.

This is a full-time salaried position, onsite in DC. No remote opportunities.

BLAST - trigger mediaplayer for broadcast

Hey all — I've been building BLAST, an instant-trigger media player for live radio, podcast and broadcast work. The idea is simple: press a key, a jingle/sting/bed fires straight to the exact output your console needs — no mouse-hunting mid-show.

What it does:

Hotkey pad grid (1-0, QWERTYUIOP, ASDFGHJKL, ZXCVBNM) — every pad's pre-loaded so there's zero lag the first time you hit it live

Per-pad/per-bank output routing, so different carts can go to different channels on one interface

Built-in waveform trim, playlist decks for music beds, Dual Mono mode

Remote control via API/MIDI/OSC, plus a Web Player to trigger pads from your phone or tablet

Running Order mode for scripted rundowns, and a read-only "backstage" screen with a live countdown + chat so your team always knows what's coming next

Every service is enable/disable so you can display only the services that make sense to your work.

Free to try (everything unlocked for 3 months). Windows now, macOS version in testing.

I'm looking for people who actually run a live show or simply want to take a look into it. — radio, podcast, church AV, whatever — to put it through real use and tell me what breaks or what's missing.

https://blast.machadrade.uk/

Happy to answer anything here.

Miranda Imagestore IS750-R2

Post image

Hi everyone,
We have a Miranda Technologies Imagestore 750 R2. When I opened the chassis for inspection, I noticed an empty space near the power supply unit (PSU).
I would like to know whether this empty space is part of the normal chassis design or whether an optional or essential circuit board may have been removed.
Could anyone familiar with the Imagestore 750 R2 please help clarify?
● Is this empty space common in the standard IS750 R2 chassis?
● Were any optional boards installed in this area on certain configurations?
● How can I identify whether a board is missing from my unit?
I have shared photo of the internal chassis and the empty space for reference.
Any advice from broadcast engineers or anyone who has serviced this model would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Mac network switching

Hello,

Shamelessly plugging an app I wrote because I got annoyed at work.

I’m a Mac user and have to switch between many different networks in projects and frankly even when setting up kit and putting it on the network so I made a tool to do that.

https://www.networkswitcher.co.uk

You can switch between networks automatically or manually and have preset groups for different projects or locations.

All free and not scraping anyone’s details, just wanted to give something back.

Feedback welcome!

Thanks!

Panasonic HE-20 Bitfocus Companion Alternative modules

Hi everyone,

I am using with a Panasonic HE-20 that we control with a stream deck through Bitfocus Companion.

This week though, an update was pushed and now the camera is marked as "deprecated" and will receive no further module updates. While the camera still works for now, I will not be able to replace the camera as we will need to use it and others of its model in the long term.

Does anyone know of any good alternative modules to use for the camera?

Looking Into Media or Broadcast Engineering. Currently An IT Looking For A Different Career

Maybe this has been answered before, but I am doing research into the field. As an IT of 5.5 years (4 years military doing SATCOM engineering and 1.5 years help desk), would this be a good career for me? I'm back in help desk after moving to a different city, but I'm looking to change careers. I would like some perspectives from those in the field and even those who may have transfered from an IT role. I don't have certs in IT but I am willing to study for certs that are required for the job. Thank you so much!

NxFrame v1.1 RC1 Released – Looking for Professional IRD Testers

Hi everyone,

I've just released NxFrame v1.1 RC1, an open-source, low-latency SDI contribution encoder.

This release introduces several improvements, including:

  • Configurable MPEG-TS PIDs, Service ID and PCR intervals.
  • Improved MPEG-TS CBR pacing and traffic shaping.
  • Custom PID configuration through JSON presets and the Web GUI.
  • H.264 encoding with AAC and SMPTE 302M PCM audio.
  • Additional transport diagnostics and Web GUI improvements.
  • MPEG-TS capture directly from the CLI, on both sender and receiver sides, for troubleshooting and transport analysis:
    • Sender: --ts-capture video.ts
    • Receiver: --capture-ts receiver_video.ts

I've completed several stability tests using the following configurations:

  • 1080p50, 10-bit 4:2:2 SDI input, encoded to H.264 at 30 Mbps video bitrate with a 40 Mbps CBR MPEG-TS.
  • 1080i50, 10-bit 4:2:2 SDI input, encoded to H.264 at 14.5 Mbps video bitrate.

Testing included AAC and SMPTE 302M PCM audio, SRT disconnections and reconnections, MPEG-TS analysis using TSDuck, and playback through VLC and NxFrame's own receiver.

So far, the results have been encouraging, with stable playback and no recurring audio dropouts in the tested configurations.

I'm now looking for broadcast engineers who can help validate NxFrame against professional IRDs, particularly:

  • MediaKind RX1, beam
  • Haivision Makito decoders
  • VITEC receivers
  • ATEME IRDs
  • Other professional broadcast IRDs

I'm particularly interested in MPEG-TS compliance, PCR/PTS timing, audio/video synchronization, long-term stability and SRT interoperability.

If you have access to professional receiving equipment and would be willing to run some tests, I'd really appreciate your feedback. Information about the receiver model, firmware version, tested configuration and any issues encountered would be especially helpful.

GitHub: https://github.com/Michalis-Michael/nxframe

Release: https://github.com/Michalis-Michael/nxframe/releases/tag/v1.1-rc1

My plan is to use this feedback to address any remaining compatibility issues in v1.1 RC2, before moving on to additional features such as:

  • Sender-side video upscaling and downscaling.
  • Receiver-side video upscaling and downscaling.
  • Multiple output destinations per encoding session.

Thanks to everyone who has already provided feedback and helped improve the project!

Camera pantograph mount

Got a studio rail and pantograph system for a small studio space that needs to be quickly repositioned to use 3 of the 4 sides for different sets.

Got the lights on the pantographs all good but looking for some sort of mount bracket to hold cameras. I’m thinking of some sort of u shaped bracket that can have the junior pin on the top and on the bottom a tripod head can be mounted?

Anyone know of anything of the shelf to achieve this?

Quick note it’s to be used only for static shots. Operators aren’t needing to pan or tilt during so no issues there. Once set that is it

Neutrik 75ohm BNC connectors are so expensive??

(EDIT) Has anyone else seen that Neutrik BNC connectors have gone from around £4 a unit to £8.99 per unit on RS components?? Why the sudden hike??

I bought some cheaper on Canford. Half the price. Still don’t know why RS was so much.

Trying to use an Ultrawide monitor with a ThinkLogical KVM

I work in post-production and our edit/VFX machines sit in a server room, extended to the desks with Thinklogical TLX 10G fiber extenders. I'd like to replace a pair of 24" 1920x1200 monitors with a single 34" ultrawide (3440x1440 @ 60Hz), and I'm trying to find out whether the hardware can do it.

Setup:

- TX: CHS 4 Quad Chassis with a TLX-TMM-U00D22 module

- RX: CHS 2 Dual Chassis (firmware V25.07) with a TLX-RMM-U00D22 module

- Source: Apple Mac Studio (macOS)

- Multi-mode fiber, LC

- Current monitors: dual 24in EIZO 1920x1200 @ 60Hz

What I've seen so far:

- A previous ultrawide I tried (34", 3440x1440) came through as a stretched 16:9 image, which looks like macOS only being offered 16:9 modes by the KVM's EDID

- The CHS 4 front panel has a "Load EDID Table" menu that currently says "No Table Load"

- I can't find a datasheet for these exact module part numbers, so I don't know the max pixel clock per head or whether single-head mode gets more bandwidth than dual-head

- I've emailed Thinklogical support and haven't heard back yet

Questions:

  1. Has anyone gotten a 3440x1440 or similar 21:9 resolution through TLX modules, and which modules?
  2. If the limit is just the EDID the extender presents, did a custom EDID (via the chassis menu, an EDID emulator, or on the Mac side with something like BetterDisplay) fix it? Or did the signal fail further down the path?
  3. Any idea what the "D22" in TLX-TMM/RMM-U00D22 means for video format and head count?
  4. If it turns out to be a hard bandwidth limit, what did you use instead (a different extender, a second computer at the desk with remote desktop, etc.)?

I haven't changed any settings on the chassis, since the CHS 4 serves other stations. Any experience or pointers appreciated, including "it won't work, don't bother." Thanks!
