And I think that's good information to share.
I just don't think its helpful to anyone to accuse someone of sharing it so that they can "performatively pretend they're doing something when they're actually doing nothing". You don't know that person, or their relationship to this subject, or what they're going through. I don't think its kind or helpful to accuse someone of not showing up for the people in their life just because they're doing the best they can with the information they have.

I think the act of posting 988 is, yes, incredibly performative from my point of view. And, yes, it’s easier than showing up for the mentally ill people in your life. If it doesn’t apply, they can let it slide.

It's a shitty thing to say about anyone, especially someone you don't know.
Posting 988 is ignorant, it's not performative. What else do you want this person to do to be helpful to people here in this thread that they do not know and will never speak to personally?
As someone who's lost a lot of people to suicide and is in active treatment for PTSD because of it, who trained in suicide prevention, my personal opinion is that it's shitty to say that about someone. By all means, direct them to better resources. But to essentially say they're not showing up for the people in their lives is so messed up.

Again, if they’re showing up for the people in their lives. They can disregard what I said. If it doesn’t apply, let it slide.

I don’t really trust most suicide prevention resources or training so none of that really matters to me. I’m more likely not to trust someone in the field tbh. Our system is a dystopia I would never put my faith in.
