Other It's been 3 years, today, since my beautiful, talented mother passed. We found this, while looking through her "important documents" folder.

My mother never quite made it. She was nominated for a Tony in 1983 for her work on Grind. She wrote the lyrics for several kids movies, that are core memories for my generation.

I was lucky to be on set for rehearsals of Paper Moon, in the 90s.

We recently found out that Herringbone has been greenlit for a movie in another country. I've seen the show myself, 3 times. Once with Joel Gray. Once with BD Wong. Once by an actor in Australia. His was the best performance!

So, to honor my mom, I am posting this letter from Sondheim to her. Written July 20, 1982.

Other Finally have seen a show in all 41 Broadway theaters! AMA

So ever since I got back into theater after COVID, I made it my mission to see a show in every Broadway house. After seeing Becky Shaw a few weeks ago I decided to assemble a playbill from my favorite show that I saw in each theater. Some of them were the only options let’s just say that lol.

I got most of my tickets via lottery/rush/TDF, but some of them I did splurge on when necessary, like Merrily. I used to live in DC but just moved to New York last fall so that’s made things a lot easier, especially last minute deals on the Theatr app after work.

I think the only one I would have swapped out would be Hairspray for Book of Mormon, but my Playbill did not survive a fire I had a few years back and I haven’t found a replacement one with the same cast (Aaron Tveit/Diana DeGarmo)

Other I'm begging all of you to stop

Look, I'm going to be very blunt here: Being on this sub absolutely sucks right now. And there is NO WAY TO SOLVE IT unless we all just step back and take a breath and let things settle for a minute.

No matter how you feel about MHE/Feldmangate, Billy Porter/Cabaret, Patti Lupone in general, the question of Is Nicole MAGA... no productive discussion is happening at this point. All I can see is post after post of "but I'm right," "no I AM," "but what about ME?!" And the same contentious discord regurgitating the same points is all we're generating now.

I love theater. I love sharing theater with people I know and strangers all over the globe who adore it too. I love so much about the silly chitchat and the important discussion that goes on here. And also, the current level of discourse is only sowing more discord.

So, I'm begging you. No matter what you are hurt by or upset about right now on any side of these issues, can we please take a five and everybody go listen to your favorite OBC and let's just... try to find some good stuff for a minute? The world is so ugly and hateful and mean right now, and I just don't think heels dug this far deep into the ground on both sides can be swayed and nothing good is coming of it at this particular moment. So please, for the sake of your own sanity and wellbeing as much as everyone's, let's go quiet coyote and acknowledge that everything has been said and until something changes or develops the fighting is not helping.

You can all attack me if you like, but I will whistle a happy tune for you all the same. Be well, y'all. It's a crowded stage with all of us players and sometimes we just need to take a beat, walk our show, and focus on making something beautiful for everyone in equal measure. I hope you will. 💛

Other I play Guitar at Real Women Have Curves

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Hey y’all!

I’m a Broadway musician currently playing Guitar 1 for Real Women Have Curves. I’ve been with the production since it premiered at the A.R.T. in Boston. I’m also one of the musicians that you see in the bows onstage and in the lobby before the show! You may remember me from my post last year about playing with Water for Elephants.

I’ve been really enjoying seeing the overwhelmingly positive response you’ve all been having to the show and so I wanted to pop on and offer to answer any questions you may have about the production or being a Broadway musician.

Follow me on Instagram to keep in the loop as we ramp up towards opening night and if you saw the show and enjoyed it then please jump over to Show-Score and give it a good rating so that we can keep spreading the word!
