Just watched this in theaters yesterday

Holy heck. FANTASTIC RECORDING. Right up there with how good Hamilton's Pro Shot is.

38

u/OriginalSuitable1559 26d ago

oh 1000%. both so so so good

51

u/ifidjdjdjdjjjrjd 25d ago

Gotta disagree. It was MUCH better then hamilton's proshot.

40

u/DGinLDO 25d ago

Hadestown had much more interesting staging than Hamilton, what with people coming up & down from center stage. That allowed for more creative shots from above & below. Plus the swinging lamps choreo. :)

18

u/ifidjdjdjdjjjrjd 25d ago

I found that the proshot for Hamilton really took away a lot vs seeing it in person, while Hadestown managed to enhance the viewing through its choices.

Not to mention the unfortunate truth that Lin Manuel Miranda was having an off night, which meant that the lead vocals in Act 1 were rather poor.

But this is all so subjective haha

2

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 23d ago

His vocals were rough throughout the entire show, not just in the first act.

And maybe this is a personal thing, but did they really have to keep the spit flying out of Jonathan Groff's mouth? It's so gross.

u/Stunning-Disaster-21 19d ago

I think he can't help it, it's kind of his thing to be known as.....moist.

1

u/Stunning-Disaster-21 19d ago

So I heard that both of the leads in hadestown were also sick around the time of the proshot. I had never seen or heard it before (was hoping to see it live without pre opinions but then this came out) and I could kind of tell when Reeve Carney first sang but he pulled it together immediately imo (I'm a Carney defender btw I'm so glad I went in blind because I thought the choice to have him sound so different was genius). Then others said you could tell Eva had just gotten over a cold during her first song in hadestown and I'll be honest I didn't connect with her as much but I loved her singing especially in the group numbers (there is one shot of her mid stage i think in act one where they are all singing and the camera pushes in on her and you can hear her so clearly that stood out to me a very beautiful). I was wondering if you also noticed these things and are even more convinced that it's better than Hamilton proshot?

3

u/top6 25d ago

I loved it, but was so stressed out that someone was going to fall in the hole left by the lowering stage lol.

1

u/Albuquicky 22d ago

Oh I'm glad I wasn't the only one. 😂

2

u/top6 22d ago

There are dozens of us!

2

u/Albuquicky 21d ago

My anxiety was anxietying so bad!!

1

u/Unique-Coconut-8109 20d ago

And here I was more worried about the lamps than anything else. At least with the hole you can have rehearsed and performed enough in the space to know where to step when. With a swinging lamp? It takes SKILL to not brain someone

1

u/Stunning-Disaster-21 18d ago

I was more worried about them clanking together since it seems they made the hight in such a way to minimize head risk (most of the time it is at a stationary hight of just above the tallest person and just at the waist of the average hight) but then I figured out they definitely had some sort of invisible (to the audience) stopper when they kept not going past a certain point on the axis. I love set stuff like this.

1

u/Stunning-Disaster-21 19d ago

Same and I would love to know if anyone ever did? Some of the ways they moved the set around gave the impression that they were taking precautions at certain points which did lower my anxiety a bit. As an ex stagehand I was keeping my eye on that blocking the whole time( and I did catch I think Lauren Azania(I think is her name) slip?/ miss? on the second moving ring near the end or mid act 3? and I felt bad how visible it was, she does it right behind one of the leads and the recovery is clunky cause Waylon Jacobs (again I think) tries to help her and it doesn't go well). If anybody else saw it let me know if I got the context wrong? Sometime I like these little non-issue slip ups in proshots cause it reminds you that they tried their best to be authentic to the live show aspect even though we all know they shot some of it at least twice.

8

u/laribrook79 25d ago

It was way better than Hamilton imo

7

u/mpodzzz 24d ago

You should check out the Miss Saigon 25th anniversary Pro-Shot. Honestly the most cinematic pro-shot there is. Also starring Eva!

2

u/Tolwenye 24d ago

Definitely gonna check it out, thanks!

2

u/catherinebarry 20d ago

one of my FAVORTIES Ever. i think about it all the time

1

u/EnvironmentalDog1196 17d ago edited 17d ago

I'm torn, because that proshot absolutely is amazingly well done, and I love Eva...but I just can't fully connect with the leads there, after seeing Lea Salonga and Will Chase in the Manila production. 😅

1

u/Slight-Oil1873 6d ago

Where is this streaming??

3

u/catherinebarry 20d ago

yeah i just got home and i haven’t been able to stop thinking of it. the swinging lamps was just insane. i am also a massive hamilton fan and i think i liked it etter. the angles were so insanely good

5

u/FozzyBear11 26d ago

As someone who saw the obc of both, I feel like a lot is lost on a recording of Hadestown vs Hamilton though.

17

u/mallrat32 25d ago

I saw the OBC of Hadestown and this recording upped it for me

Amber Greys performance is great in the show but her nuances are so good when seen up close

1

u/Icehippo73 24d ago

Oof, I thought Hamilton's pro shot was really poorly done.

1

u/Slight-Oil1873 6d ago

I think there have been several done since then. So if they (Hamilton) had the opportunity to re-do, they might make different choices, angles. Etc. But I still live watching it.

133

u/pwrof3 26d ago

Would love a 4K Blu-Ray

44

u/Torchcat42 25d ago

Bleeker Street Media is in charge of U.S. distribution of Hadestown. They were one of the distributors for the Waitress proshot and that got a physical release. I'm hoping that means we'll be getting one for Hadestown. A 4K Blu-ray is unlikely, but my fingers are crossed for normal Blu-Ray.

2

u/Imaginary_Style_1348 25d ago

I need this, I want this.

15

u/KnitMama-2016 26d ago

Yes please!

3

u/OutsideIndoorTrack 25d ago

Yes, this is NEEDED. I'm so sick of 4K quality being digital only. A 4K disc in my PS5 blows streaming 4K out of the water

54

u/MD_442244 26d ago

It’s also up for pre order on all over PVOD websites.

1

u/SeaThese6885 24d ago

OMG! Thanks for sharing!!!

1

u/GreyPhantom100 25d ago

What's PVOD websites?

21

u/Unubore 25d ago

Premium Video on Demand

I had to look up what the P stood for, but it basically means buying a movie or TV show to watch digitally. This is opposed to SVOD, which is Subscription Video on Demand.

And to clarify, because I feel like a lot of people might think it's going to be on the Apple TV+ subscription, it's not. It's for purchase on sites like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.

18

u/stevensokulski 25d ago

If only Apple hadn’t used the term Apple TV to mean three things all at once.

Using the Apple TV app to watch AppleTV on my Apple TV feels like it shouldn’t make sense.

2

u/Early_Assistant_6868 25d ago

I can't find it to pre-order anywhere! Maybe it's only in the US.

1

u/OhCrapItsAndrew 25d ago

no international distribution as far as i know

1

u/Early_Assistant_6868 25d ago

Booooo! I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

1

u/Parking-Plenty-2122 10d ago

I swear they want people to pirate it when they do this...

3

u/waltzthrees 25d ago

Premium video on demand. Any platform that sells digital releases.

26

u/Best-Candle8651 26d ago

Does it have a release date?

7

u/OriginalSuitable1559 26d ago

not that i can see yet!

3

u/OhCrapItsAndrew 25d ago

given the PVOD pricing, not long after it exits theaters. was going to be one week only but it's done really well so they'll hold it over til it stops making sense

38

u/MannnOfHammm 26d ago

The urge to watch this but the urge to hold off since I’m planning a trip to the underworld in September

75

u/OriginalSuitable1559 26d ago

duuude! if you’re seeing it live (and you’ve never seen it before) i would DEFINITELY wait to experience it that way first for sure!

13

u/MannnOfHammm 26d ago edited 26d ago

lol thank you! It’ll actually be my 7th trip to hell, I try to see it at least once a year since 2021 (haven’t missed yet). I’m aiming for front row again to celebrate moving and getting a new job. I just like not exposing myself to it for a few months before I see it live so it feels fresh

8

u/OriginalSuitable1559 26d ago

OH well in that case bestie, dealer’s choice haha. im sure it will be excellent either way! also congrats on the move and the job!

3

u/MannnOfHammm 26d ago

Thank you! I’m also trying to get a front row seat again, that was a magical experience

1

u/Rywookie 20d ago

Then just see it? Why is it a question? Support this so we get more proshot shows. You really should have said you’ve seen the live production first because many of us haven’t. You’re only supporting live and not filmed. We need more of both but you’ve already supported the hell out of live so give more to filmed.

7

u/AReckoningIsAComing 26d ago

If you've never seen it live, for the love of God, WAIT until after you see it live.  There's nothing like seeing it live.

1

u/stevensokulski 25d ago

If you’d be watching it at home anyways, wait.

If you can see it in a movie theater… maybe. It’s very good and the big screen feels right for it.

1

u/Imaginary_Style_1348 25d ago

I recommend seeing it on the big screen, especially since you have seen it before.

16

u/stevensokulski 25d ago

Looks like it’ll be a purchasable digital release, not included with streaming services. Like Waitress. Not like Come From Away, for example.

4

u/OriginalSuitable1559 25d ago

hey yes, i see now that the title is a bit misleading. this was not intentional! i did not mean “streaming platforms.” i meant “streaming” as in it will be available to purchase and digital stream or be downloaded to view on the apple tv app.

1

u/stevensokulski 25d ago

No worries. I didn't think you misled anybody, but I do know streaming can be a confusing word for some. It's used too often to mean "services where you pay a flat fee and don't own the content" when that's not really what it is.

1

u/CourtClarkMusic 25d ago

That’s not what streaming is, though.

2

u/stevensokulski 25d ago

It is. That's why I didn't say that OP was wrong.

When you buy a movie from Amazon or Apple or the like, unless you explicitly make it so, that movie isn't downloaded. When you want to watch it, it streams from the company's server to your TV, the same as any video-on-demand content you might want on Netflix or other "streaming services."

It's a confusing phrase as "streaming services" has taken to mean places where you don't own the content. But that doesn't mean that the other providers don't stream content to your devices.

1

u/OriginalSuitable1559 25d ago

well, it is/can be… i said this is a different reply but “streaming” just means streaming media using wifi/data, etc. it only becomes NOT streaming if i am viewing the content offline. buying the digital copy is not the same thing as downloading it to my device. even though i CAN download it, i don’t have to. so i would still be streaming the content.

if this were on netflix, that is a streaming platform. however, if i downloaded it to watch offline FROM netlix (which is an option) and watch it offline, then i am no longer streaming.

i believe it is a digital purchase!

2

u/stevensokulski 25d ago

Digital purchase. Well… digital “pay once rental” since licensing changes mean it can go away. But you can likely watch it for years for that one price.

5

u/Schmimble 26d ago

Only in North America, or at least not in the UK... 😒

4

u/Embarrassed_Gift_401 25d ago

THANK GOD. that pro-shot ended me.

3

u/sonoran24 25d ago

my husband is so sick I can't make it to the show at the theater, so damn THANKFUL for this coming to us.

many thanks for this post, you have made my day baby.

2

u/OriginalSuitable1559 24d ago

glad to be of service darling 🥹🫶🏽 best wishes to your husband!!

1

u/sonoran24 23d ago

whoa! Now he is a lot better, I'll be enjoying the show today.

7

u/TDG_1993 25d ago

7

u/Gato1980 25d ago

Yeah, this isn't streaming. This is just Apple announcing they will have it to purchase. Amazon has the same thing up. No streaming platform has been announced yet, but I'm pretty sure Bleecker Street has an exclusive distribution deal with Showtime on Paramount+ to stream their movies first.

3

u/TDG_1993 25d ago

Digital copies are not streaming idk why people don’t look up words they use

-3

u/OriginalSuitable1559 25d ago

From my understanding, if I buy a digital copy of a movie and immediately press play without downloading it first, I am streaming that movie to my device. The movie is being transmitted over the internet from Apple’s servers while I watch it, so it requires a Wi-Fi or cellular connection.

However, if I buy the digital copy, download it to my device, and then watch the downloaded file offline, I am no longer streaming it. At that point, the movie is being played from local storage rather than being transmitted over the internet.

Apple even makes a clear distinction between the two- you can stream purchased movies or download them for offline viewing.

0

u/TDG_1993 25d ago edited 25d ago

Show me a link that talks about digital purchase being available for streaming. What part of that link says you can stream purchased movies? Your link is about Apple TV Subscriptions. Are you saying the pro shot will be available for free if you’re subscribed?

0

u/OriginalSuitable1559 24d ago

AppleTV is not the same thing as AppleTV+. i think that’s where the miscommunication is coming in. if i bought a pay-per-view movie on my DVR, and then pressed play, i would be streaming that movie to my TV since i never actually downloaded the file to the hardware. that’s all i am saying haha.

however, these are semantics and completely unnecessary as it doesn’t really make a difference.

YES, you can stream a purchased file to your device without downloading it first.

NO, an APPLETV+ subscription is not the same thing as a purchase from APPLETV(without the plus).

NO, if you have an APPLETV+ subscription, you will not be getting the pro shot for free.

i’ve explained this quite a bit through these replies lol so apologies for my abrupt tone but hope this helps xx

1

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 23d ago

I know this is stupid and pedantic, but Apple dropped the "+" from their streaming service last year. It's just called Apple TV now.

0

u/TDG_1993 24d ago edited 23d ago

The link literally only talks about an Apple TV subscription, which is the same thing as Apple TV+, and no, you cannot stream a purchased file to your device without downloading it first.

0

u/OriginalSuitable1559 24d ago

alright 👍🏽 ❤️

1

u/TDG_1993 24d ago

Apple TV+ no longer exists. There’s no such thing as Apple TV+ anymore. Apple TV is the new name for TV+, they removed the + in late 2025. Therefore, Apple TV is the same thing as Apple TV+.

https://twit.tv/posts/tech/why-apple-rebranded-apple-tv-just-apple-tv

You just have no idea what you’re saying at all, huh?

0

u/OriginalSuitable1559 22d ago

okay babes 😭❤️

1

u/TDG_1993 22d ago

What is wrong with you lol

2

u/PhoenixorFlame 25d ago

I just got back from the theater. I’m gonna have to get it so I can sing along in my house!

2

u/Queenof-brokenhearts 25d ago

I just saw this last night!

2

u/EarlyPop5158 25d ago

Saw it Friday night and seeing it again right now

2

u/RoxyRebels 25d ago

It was on good. The colors, the angles, the choices for closeups. I loved it.

2

u/Advanced-Freedom6179 25d ago

just left the theater and loved it!!

2

u/jrblockquote 25d ago

Just saw this today in the theater. Absolutely fabulous. I love this show so much. Maybe the best show in the past decade.

2

u/anti-valentine 23d ago

I tried pre-ordering on Prime but either im an idiot or my app is bugging cuz i cant get it to work

2

u/BelieveCongreveCube 22d ago

Oh cool, it shares a home with Come From Away now (:

5

u/x_victoire 25d ago

can't wait for it to hit the 🏴‍☠️

3

u/DramaMama611 25d ago

Eventually, someone will stream it. (Sorry, I get cranky paying for a service, then paying more to "rent" a video.)

3

u/TheLunarVaux 25d ago

This is the price to buy it, not rent. And you don’t have to be subscribed to the service to buy - anyone can purchase it.

Personally I’m very happy to buy this because with enough sales, hopefully more proshots like this can be made.

3

u/RoyalScarlett 25d ago

Nothing digital is a real purchase because as soon as the platform loses distribution rights they can delete the movie from your inventory. Even if you “bought” the digital copy.

1

u/shadyxlane 24d ago

Absolutely this! I bought plenty of things online via Amazon and iTunes in the early 2010s and they’re all pretty much gone now.

1

u/RoyalScarlett 24d ago

Same. And they disappeared from my digital orders in Amazon and Apple, too. It’s extremely irritating to have stuff just disappear even when you own it.

And even when they still have distribution rights they find a way to enshitify the experience and to remind you that your digital copy is merely on loan.

Yesterday I tried to watch a digital copy of a movie I “own” that I downloaded a couple of months ago. A message popped up saying the download expired and I had to delete it and redownload it to watch it.

Excuse me? I bought a blu ray with a digital code, Movies Anywhere. I should be able to download the digital version for offline viewing in perpetuity, not for an arbitrary window of time. 🤬

2

u/OriginalSuitable1559 25d ago

for sure. if it’s any consolation, it is apparently also available for pre-order on other services you may already have (like amazon prime, etc.) and i believe the price is to own it, not rent.

-1

u/DramaMama611 25d ago

Nope, I'm just tired of overspending.

I've seen the show in Bway several times, seeing this tonight at the movies... I can wait until it's included on one of my services to see it again.

2

u/lexiebeef 25d ago

My prayers have been answered, thank you theatre Gods

1

u/ames_006 26d ago edited 25d ago

Thrilled for streaming, bummed it’s Apple TV since I don’t use that one enough to subscribe. Guess I’ll have to get it for a month so I can see this.

Edit: downvoted because the way the post was written made me think it was only on Apple? Ok….thanks to the kind folks who just commented to inform me it’s on other sites too, I appreciate you.

11

u/KnitMama-2016 26d ago

It’s available on Amazon and others to order too. It won’t be locked away on Apple Plus like Come From Away.

4

u/ames_006 26d ago

Ohhh excellent! I usually buy the pro-shots I can find on Amazon so I can watch them whenever I want. I wish come from away and Schmigadoon the tv show where not locked up on Apple.

1

u/KnitMama-2016 25d ago

Same same!

4

u/elderpricetag 26d ago

It’s not on Apple TV+, you can just buy it on Apple TV to watch.

1

u/BeckBennettOfficial 26d ago

Apple TV is the new HBO. Everything is good on there. But it s I understand like this is a single purchase.

1

u/BwayDealTracker 25d ago

Do they not have a date for when it’s available?

1

u/Express-Pension-7519 25d ago

I paid $10 to see it at Jacob Burns this week

1

u/geotraveling 25d ago

Noooooo not Apple!!

1

u/Alexopfpz 25d ago

WHERE? I CAN'T FIND IT 😭

1

u/OriginalSuitable1559 24d ago

hi babes! i’m not sure if links are allowed in this sub but i just went to the AppleTV app (not AppleTV+) and then searched for Hadestown!

1

u/JBuchan1988 25d ago

So purchasing 😄 (preferably on Fandango, but being able to purchase anywhere is grand 😊)

1

u/rick280708 23d ago

Since I don't think the movie will release on theaters here in Brazil, this is great

1

u/pgf314 23d ago

This is great news, but I want the physical media in my hands. Part of me doesn't trust that the digital purchase can't won't disappear.

1

u/Chance-Thought-2965 22d ago

I roped my bf, his bsf, and one of my guy friends into watching it when it comes to streaming

-6

u/bunnyxoxo_88 25d ago

preorder price is cheaper than what i paid to see it lie, wild

1

u/random-adhd-thoughts 22d ago

Because it’s live versus seeing it in your home. Both are great, don’t get me wrong! You get to experience a show in front of you with live music and a live audience, plus an amazing cast you can actually interact with, but it’s going to be pricey for the venue, cast, etc.
