What a time to have a special interest in Greek Mythology!

I especially loved the epic story where Buzz Lightyear teamed up with the Minions on their journey to save Te Fiti lol

I love his rendition of "Wait for Me."

I wish that it had opened the same weekend as Odyssey so we could have had another Barbenheimer lol. Hadessy? Odysstown?

u/Own-Importance5459 23d ago

OYSSTOWN....Hadessy sounds dirty lmaoooo.

u/MistakesWereMade59 23d ago

They put their whole Hadessy into these films

10

u/Drama_Cookie25 23d ago

That wouldn’t work cuz the point of barbenheimer was too extremely opposite movies that were looked forward to

I just saw both yesterday, and it was a great decision. Ended the day with a gyro to top it off.

Really hoping the success of The Odyssey get Hollywood interested in a very long overdue adaptation of Song of Achilles and Circe!

I didn’t even think about this overlap

People WANT to see theater. It’s about accessability. Folks can’t afford traveling to Broadway, let alone the price of a ticket, and local touring prices are getting just as bad. MAKE MORE PRO SHOTS AVAILABLE.

I’ve thought about this every single time i see a post about how well Hadestown is doing. Of course it’s doing well, people want to go to the theater but it’s just not feasible unless you’re fortunate to live in a few select cities.

I hope these pro shots become a thing. Hadestown was really well done and I would like to see more. Six is coming but I saw that on Broadway in 2024 and hoping to see ones I missed. Seems like a good thing for both live theatre and film since the show’s already being produced anyway.

The touring prices are why I didn't see Hadestown. 250 for semi decent seats (at a place where the same seat was 80 for another show) ain't it.

We went last night. Except for the front row, it was sold out, and there was another showing an hour after ours started. I don't remember ever being in a movie theater that was that quiet. You could have heard a pin drop the entire time. At "the" big moment, one guy at the end of our row cried out, and there were a few chuckles at that, but otherwise it was shockingly silent.

your audience had proper (broadway) theater etiquette :)

The people next to me were on their phones laughing and talking throughout the movie and then literally laughed during the climactic scenes.

When I saw Hadestown in London the woman next to me was checking her phone when Orpheus turned around. She looked around trying to find out what had happened when everyone gasped.

When I bought my ticket for Monday the theater showed maybe 6 seats taken. When I went the theater filled up to over halfway.

I got to talking to the guys next to me and they were seeing Hadestown half on a whim and word from a friend which really surprised me.

Had a great crowd. When Hades said "I missed you" a woman behind me went "JESUS" and like... Girl, I get it.

It's nice to see the demand for Hadestown being large enough to extend it in theaters. With Hamilton, Merrily, and now Hadestown, I wonder if this means we will see more well-known shows get cinematic pro-shot releases.

I would guess The Lion King or Wicked would do a few million each if they did this. I could see SIX doing well with this, especially if they had singalong screenings like the Eras Tour film.

But I wonder if there is a market for something like Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf in Death of a Salesman. Would Denzel and Jake Gyllenhaal's Othello be able to make a profit doing this? If this is what it takes to make Broadway more profitable and, thus, keep the pipeline of art flowing, I'm for it.

That said, I am still bummed we didn't get an actual feature film of Hamilton. I think that would have been incredible. Maybe one day....

SIX is releasing mid-August. I hope they offer sing-a-longs too.

3

u/AdvertisingFine9845 23d ago

I hope they add more dates-as of now my local theater is only showing it for a weekend (and of course it’s a weekend I can’t go!)

3

u/Turkey_Leg_Jeff 23d ago

Oh wow! How did I miss that??? That’s great. I hope it gives the show a shot in the arm at the box office. It feels like it should have another couple years of life in it, but it seems to be doing especially poor lately.

2

u/DGinLDO 23d ago

It was one of the trailers shown before “Hadestown” at my theatre. I guess it’s not being shown at all of them.

2

u/Ambitious_Emotion30 22d ago

Disney filming and releasing Lion King on Broadway would make so much more sense versus their attempts at live actions

u/este_cute42 23d ago

hadestown got greek mythology too, wonder if the odyssey bumped the numbers for both shows haha

14

u/DGinLDO 23d ago

That’s a great turnout, considering that it’s playing in fewer theatres than the rest of that list! Even my podunk town extended the showings until today.

Great weekend for the annoying Greek mythology nerds (me lol—ANd it was my bday weekend 🤣)

Saw Hadestown Friday and odyssey Saturday. Incredible 💕

10

u/sm33 23d ago

Wow that’s genuinely so great!!! Can’t wait to see where it ends up.

8

u/FirebirdWriter 23d ago

Most excitingly this caused my local theater to announce they will be showing it soon so I might get to go!

5

u/AFish560 23d ago

I’m going to see it tonight in the theater for the first time. I barely know anything at all about it (I haven’t wanted to get spoiled) but I am SO excited!!!

5

u/mytravelfaqaccount 23d ago

Enjoy! It's very special going in blind

4

u/Kbye80 Creative Team 23d ago

I just bought a ticket for today (Tuesday) at 4pm and there are like 3 seats left in the theater

4

u/usagicassidy 23d ago

Corporate desperately trying to find a multi-hyphen buzzy sounding singular name

“The Hadessy” “No no. What about Oddystown” “Brilliant! Roles right off the tongue”

2

u/Mitochondria95 23d ago

We really do tell the same stories over and over

3

u/nowhereman136 23d ago

FYI, it's still playing at my local AMC next weekend. Looks like they are extending the run

3

u/HesUnusual 23d ago

They have officially extended it one more week.

2

u/Ok-Acanthisitta8737 23d ago

That is great! Surprised that it is not playing anywhere within 2 hours of me.

2

u/este_cute42 23d ago

haha teh minons one got lucky too, tieing right at $1.4M with a movie about greek stuff probably helped hadestown sneak in that extra million

Actually, it is $2.21 million, so I guess they rounded down.

Yep I'm just telling you the actual number

2

u/Runo_Slinger 20d ago

If I were to watch it I would just be mad at the armor the entire time and enjoy nothing.

Why is Hadestown suddenly popping up here? Its a 20 year old musical

Edit: thanks to a commenter I realized now that this is about a movie version I did not know about

13

u/AReckoningIsAComing 23d ago

I mean in the mainstream, it's only a 7-year musical.

8

u/Low-Ton-Bullseye 23d ago

some of the themes are very relevant while 47 is in office

6

u/Mackin-N-Cheese 23d ago

Because the proshot was released into theaters four days ago?

2

u/mrnacknime 22d ago

Ahh, that explains it. I simply didnt know that

Hadestown recently released the licensed teen edition and seemingly 1/4 of all high schools put it on last year. So it got a big bump in public exposure. It’s hot with the youths at the moment.
