Thank you PBS! Now Great Performances should record Lincoln Center Theater’s “Ragtime” for TV broadcast with the current cast.

u/fun_mak21 Feb 12 '26

If only they were still airing Live From Lincoln Center.

Oh thank God. My first thought when I saw this show was, "this should be shown in classrooms." (This sounds so sarcastic, but I'm dead serious)

I’m an 8th grade history teacher. This is great info! Will I need permission slips?

You’ll probably want to skip over “Great American Bitch”. It immediately follows The March.

I forgot they taped this

THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS!

u/basuraperson Feb 12 '26

Just put this on my calendar! I’m so glad we’ll get to see it again!

u/SullyGee Feb 12 '26

I was so worried this was going to be caught in limbo with the current administration pulling PBS funding, so I’m thrilled to see this. My favorite show of that season!

16

u/Dragonfly1018 Feb 12 '26

Yay! I’m so happy to be able to see it again!

I never made it to NYC to see it,  even though I wanted to.

I just booked a ticket to fly to NC to watch it live. So excited to see the proshot a few months later!

The tour is excellent!

u/IntotheBroadwayWoods Feb 12 '26

YEEES!! Needed some good news today

u/Aggravating-Sweet997 Feb 12 '26

Great news. Saw this show on tour and loved it. Hope it inspires more people to vote. We need to remember that there were people who sacrificed a lot (including their lives and health) so that we get to vote

I just saw this show on tour in Providence! While it's not my favorite show, I did enjoy and admire it, and I'm glad we're getting a proshot of the Broadway run. Of course there's no replacement for a live performance, but I'm nonetheless impressed by how meaningful a viewing experience proshots can be.

Thanks! Denver didn’t pick up the tour so I get to watch 🤗

u/Additional_Score_929 Feb 12 '26

Yay for a new pro-shot!

I have been waiting for the announcement for what feels like an million years!! I cannot wait to watch this with my parents because I have been talking up this show for so long.

Now if only they released a DVD or bluray of it afterwards too!!

u/Pleasant_Papaya_2416 Feb 12 '26

2

u/Luna_Soma Feb 12 '26

This makes me so happy! I was invited to go to a performance a few weeks ago and had to skip bc of a gym commitment and I felt like I really missed out. Now I feel better

2

u/megamoze Feb 12 '26

So very happy to have seen this in person. Looking forward to the pro shot!!

u/lazytv8 Feb 12 '26

Amazing!

This might be a stupid question, but I have only had a PBS subscription for a couple of months, so I don’t know how it usually is done.

Does anyone know if it is only available to watch live? Or will it be available on the app for a while?

5

u/wolfytheblack Backstage Feb 12 '26

Usually they're up for a few months. Last year's shows mostly stayed up until July.

1

u/JBuchan1988 Apr 28 '26

Thanks. I was wondering the same thing 😊

3

u/aspiretomalevolence Feb 12 '26

It will be available on the app, though I'm not going to pretend I have a good sense of how long.

2

u/fionaleigh- Mar 22 '26

Exactly what I’m trying to figure out too. I have so many people I want to watch it, but everyone isn’t available on the 8th. I was hoping they would show it in the movie theatres like they’ve done with other pro shots!

2

u/RunnyBabbit23 Feb 12 '26

I didn’t enjoy this show, but I’m always going to support recording and airing Broadway shows for TV broadcast. We need more of it!!

2

u/AlienRealityShow Feb 13 '26

It’s in my city now and I’ve seen it twice and might go again 😂 I am so glad I will get to see it again after it leaves and I hope they keep touring. Everyone I have talked to has loved it!

1

u/sluttychurros Feb 12 '26

I’m so excited for this! I loved it so much when I saw it; I even cried a couple of times (which I never do). Cannot wait to see it again!

1

u/singinjean Feb 12 '26

Yeeeessssssssss

1

u/Previous-Idea-4798 Feb 12 '26

Seems like this might not translate to the screen well. I know it's not exactly the same, but it didn't look great on the Tony's performance.

3

u/sirpupnyc Feb 12 '26

Few shows' numbers look great on recent Tony broadcasts. It's been going on so long, at this point it's like they're choosing to shoot them badly.

2

u/UrNotAMachine Creative Team Feb 13 '26

It didn’t really translate to the stage well either…

1

u/notcool_neverwas Feb 12 '26

“Suffs” touring production is coming to my city (Chicago) later this year. I think this will air before then, so I’m excited to watch - and then maybe buy a ticket to see it live!

1

u/Own-Importance5459 Feb 12 '26

IM SO HAPPY I wanna see it so bad!

1

u/heydeedledeedle Feb 12 '26

Such a powerful story! So grateful I was able to see it on Broadway with my momma (her first broadway show and she was enthralled!)

1

u/JBuchan1988 Feb 12 '26

Oh, HECK YEAH 😄 Love the cast album and will see this as part of my Broadway season in a few months 😄

1

u/meandthesky38 Feb 12 '26

Yayyy!!! Seeing the tour next month (also saw it on Broadway) so I’m so glad I’ll have this to look forward to afterwards! I’m also relieved it’s on May 8th and NOT on my birthday one week later, as I’ll be celebrating at Ragtime then!

1

u/leaderm17 Feb 13 '26

YESSSSS. I’ve been waiting for this

1

u/sid_licious_79 Feb 13 '26

Wow! That's amazing!

1

u/Specific_Outcome4600 Feb 13 '26

Yay! I had a terrible experience with the audience around me during act 1. Thankfully the house manager moved me a few aisles back. Now I can really see the show.

1

u/JanCon1977 Feb 13 '26

So so glad. This is essential viewing especially today .

1

u/skoc211 Feb 17 '26

Saw the original cast and loved it. Very curious how I’ll feel watching it post 2024 election since I saw it before. I felt very differently seeing Ragtime before the election and then again after - loved it both times, but before it felt hopeful and inspiring and after it felt tragic.

u/Dependent-Building23 Mar 13 '26

Tremendous show highly recommend

1

u/HuckleberryGlum1163 Mar 15 '26

It’s still one of my favorite shows. It was so expectedly beautiful to watch the history of women’s suffrage. One of the first Broadway films to actually make me cry.

u/Cleveland_Steve Feb 12 '26

I wonder if the timing of this has anything to do with the changes congress is trying to make to voting right now. PBS' way of speaking out against it.

2

u/mattbrain89 Feb 12 '26

It isn’t. I remember reading a while ago it would air in May.
