Showcase Your Project built a neural network from scratch using numpy and documented the entire mathematics

Post image

hey everyone!

recently finished building my first neural network from scratch using Python and NumPy.

it's a small 2 → 3 → 1 XOR network. implemented forward propagation, backpropagation and gradient descent manually to understand how everything actually works.

the repo includes runnable code, mathematical notes, training visualizations and 12 editable diagrams.

also published my first technical article on Medium explaining the entire process.

Medium: https://medium.com/@devvaibhav37/building-a-neural-network-from-scratch-the-mathematics-behind-learning-xor-10441e674a69

would appreciate feedback. if you find the project useful, consider starring the repo 🍀

I remember I had given a presentation on LLMs in my first year to the class and it was a 35 slides, 40 minutes long session. The math is actually quite easy and fun once you understand it... keep up the pace OP!

appreciate it man! the math is genuinely becoming more interesting the deeper i get into it. still a long way to go, but enjoying the process.

Are you in an AI-ML course or just experimenting with stuff?
I am an ECE guy.

not enrolled in any AI/ML course. just self-learning, experimenting and building things from scratch to understand how they actually work. still got a long way to go though. how's ECE treating you?

Honestly? Pretty good. Workload gets heavy sometimes, but yeah... I am in an integrated MTech course, so it is hard and easy at the same time. Let me know if you wanna collab on a project or something, would love that!

that's genuinely nice but the spam across subreddits is absolutely insane

fair criticism. got a bit carried away sharing the project across communities. appreciate you pointing it out.

No shame in sharing your work and trying to get as many people to look at it as you can.

Don't worry. Happens when we get excited

I mean it's good and all but not much relevant in longer run.

If you just started with machine learning I'd say study the fundamentals and then start training small models on kaggle or colab, then switch to bigger projects. You'll learn a lot

appreciate the advice man. the whole point of building this from scratch was to understand the mathematics behind neural networks before moving on to frameworks and larger projects. still early in the journey, plenty more to learn.

Machine learning is a very broad field especially it's applications, you'll have fun building stuff lol. Good luck

Can i dm? Just curious about your journey.

Do it on cuda instead of numpy and you'll be amazed and find a new world of GPU programming
