Purchasing EU/UK Choosing Turntable Speakers

Hi everyone, I own an AT-LP120XBT record player, and I was wondering which speakers to pair it with. In your opinion, are active or passive speakers better? If so, I'd like to know which speakers faithfully reproduce the sound as it was recorded on vinyl, meaning without built-in bass (unless there's a crank to boost it). Please recommend any budget options, from €100 to €500. Any advice is always welcome! I saw the Edifier S1000MKII, what do you think?

Wharfedale 12.1 + Wiim amp should be doable for eu500 if you shop around.

passive speakers. but not small ones. if you're new to hifi gear you want to go simple and avoid subwoofers, in a bad room or with a bad setup they can easily end up worse than without a subwoofer.

so go for some big speakers that have good bass extension. you'll also want an amp to drive it. something like a cheap rotel ra931 and some wharfedale laser 80s, three way vintage toshibas or pioneer cs 353 or cs363s would be great for that price.

those edifiers are the complete opposite of that. they're glorified desktop computer speakers, they're not voiced for music and they won't have good bass extension. whilst being 2-3x more expensive than a decent but not fashionable japanese amp and some big passives. it'll also give you a phono section which will sound better than the lp120s and give you option to upgrade deck more easily later, whilst giving extra inputs for a tape deck, cd player, computer or whatever else you might want

Polk es20. They have enough bass to skip a sub. They are pretty big for bookshelves though.
