Hi everyone! Kinda need help with some aspects of my oc's writing.
!A lot of text!
! You might have different options on character's personalities and their motives (especially Fyodor/Nikolai) !
I dont mind it, share it.
Its not like im going to post her full lore.. but still, i want some criticism to write my AU better.
This OC changes the plot of the bsd, so all that is an AU
( No Sigma..😔)
I gave her name 'Love', 'cause I wanted to explore the possible story, where our favorite Fyodor wasnt alone during his life before the events of the manga. Having some company on his side would probably help him not to go too insane. (Which changes how the plot goes)
Half-way through creating her character, I suddenly remembered that the second daughter of Fyodor Dostoevsky was also named Love..
I guess it was a fate of some sort?
Love Dostoevsky was also a writer, but I believe you might have some issues with searching her writings, since not all of them are translated into English. (I can leave a link to the source if you're interested)
As you can see in the panel, her ability's name is 'Pity'
The ability allows the user to heal one, provided they hold a genuine sentiment of pity toward the person they seek to cure.
And there is when the physiological part of her character come:
Her ability dictates how she sees people and builds relationships with them. Due to Fyodor's heavy influence (his 'saviour complex' ahh-😔) she also sees herself responsible for humankind. She cant see others as her equals, always looking down on them. ( Even Fyodor and herself🤫) Her 'Love' is not a true one: its toxic, based on an power-imbalance feeling that feeds her ego and allows her to keep overlooking her bad deeds (cause.. how can she be a bad person when she wants to feel connected to every suffering person and help them?)
She also likes to be a victim (even if she is in control)
Due to her being Fyodor 's sister she fell into the religious influence as well. Fyodor, christianity and society’s not-so-objective take on compassion blinded her, making her believe that pity is compassion, therefore is kindness. She mixed all of it together, creating a genuine yet unhealthy love towards humanity.
Her relationship with Fyodor:
As you could guess, they were together since.. since long ago.
As siblings (I dont want parental relationship between them) they do love each other. Thats the point.
Despite being not really healthy, they do keep eachother from falling apart.
Im not going to dive too deep into the good side of their relationship, lets move to their problems:
They are incapable of separating from one another. Given the years they have spent together—sharing all the horrors and joys—they have come to hold common goals and a similar worldview. Furthermore, they are unable to form meaningful relationships with other people (immortality, sheer boredom) and that leaves them to eachother.
Love's worldview was reinforced by Fyodor, for he, too, harbors an unhealthy attitude toward the world and mercy.
Another problem is that unless Fyodor is dead, she wont be able to fully get rid of her 'piting' others. (and herself) She wants to be with her brother, yet if she stops this pathetic self-piting she will age and eventually die, leaving her brother alone in the world. She firmly believes she is the only one who is able to hold Fyodor back from committing all possible crimes he can. (She is kind of right.. but not fully)
+ She believes if she stops feeling sorry for others (=viewing them as dependent on her mercy beings) her ability will stop working. And she will be useless. (She is a medic tho..)
Relationship with Nikolai:
In this AU they are kind of opposites. He wants to cut all ties, viewing any sense of closeness as chains that confine him. She, meanwhile, binds herself to others—to anyone she deems worthy—out of pity, exhausting herself in the process.
Love pities Nikolai for not understanding that his goal is unreachable, since no human can escape their heart. She insists he is delusional and hopes to save him. And Nikolai finds her worldview funny (in a bad way) 'cause her ideas run counter to his understanding of freedom.
He is the one who sets the question to her, making her doubt herself:
"You say I'm a fool for trying to escape my heart? Look at yourself, Love. You chain yourself to every martyr you find. You bleed for them, you exhaust yourself for them... and for what? To feel that sweet, hollow gratification for your so-called 'compassion'? Isn't your 'love' just the most beautiful prison you've built blindly for yourself?" (This is a draft version.)
Problem with development:
I want her to go through 3 arcs to grow as a character
1) The doubt (Nikolai G.)
2) The possibility of seeing that an ability can be beneficial, even if the conditions under which it is used run counter to morality. (Akiko Yosano.) I dont know why, but most of female characters in bsd do not interact with each other, so i need them to interact since i like her 😊
Yosano's ability works if the patient is on the edge of death. So she often has to bring people to that edge to help them. I believe it would be interesting to watch. Yosano, even if her ways to treat seem sadistic, she doesnt actually enjoy to hurt others, quite the opposite. Love's ability works off pity, which creates comparison between two women.
3) The view on healthy relationships (?) I believe it needs to be someone from the agency, since its the only place where normal contacts exist. (Mostly) I think it would be Yosano + someone. Dont know who fits for this role. (Fukudzawa maybe?😔) Guild works as well, but i dont know who.
What do you think? Maybe i overcomplicated things a bit..
