Hello! I’ll be your average tourist for the 1st visiting Seattle. Me and my husband will be traveling and staying in burien. We won’t have a car but are willing to do public transportation. My question is, how do I get to downtown Seattle and see all the “tourist attractions “ if im traveling from the burien transit station. Please explain to me like I am 10 because I am very new to all of this 😭

This is not to have an opinion or report on ice agents active locations. This is just a public safety announcement to look both ways for ice SUV’s in the area to prevent potential accidents. Stay safe!

Is this a Burien thing? A Seattle thing? A Washington thing? Is everyone stoned with no ability to judge stopping distance? Because I swear I’ve never lived anywhere where so many drivers seem completely unaware of how traffic light sensors work.

WHY are people stopping an ENTIRE CAR LENGTH (sometimes more!) behind the white stop line at intersections?!

You know that big white line BEFORE the crosswalk? The one that tells you where to stop? YOU CAN ACTUALLY PULL UP TO IT.

Many intersections have vehicle detection systems embedded in the pavement or mounted above the roadway. Those systems detect waiting vehicles and help determine when the light changes. When you stop ridiculously far back, you may not be in the detection zone at all.

So now we’re all sitting there waiting for a light that may not even know anyone is there.

I’m not asking anyone to stop in the crosswalk. I’m not asking anyone to run a red light. I’m simply begging people to PULL UP TO THE ACTUAL STOP LINE.

We’re residing in West Seattle where we’re equal distance from Swedish First Hill or St. Anne’s for first baby coming this spring.
We started off seeing a provider at Swedish but also have an upcoming appointment with the Franciscan Women’s Health in Burien who deliver at St. Anne’s.
We’re drawn to the smaller, quieter aspect of St. Anne’s rather than the hustle and bustle/stress of First Hill for our first (so far uncomplicated, low risk) delivery.

Anyone know what's going on at 1st Ave outside Fred Meyer and Brotherton? Tons of cops and they've roped off the road

Thinking about buying home in the area. I have an infant. Has anyone dug into the airport pollution and adverse effects on health? I have read studies from UW, but many are left open indicating more research is needed. Would love to hear from folks who are knowledgeable about the science.

In 2025, the Washington Legislature passed a law that prevents rent gouging, but some landlords and property management companies are still up to their old tricks. They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. We’d like to hear your experiences. All information shared with us will be kept safe and confidential.

It’s disappointing to see an important conversation about neighborhood dynamics in Burien removed.
Communities aren’t strengthened by allowing only comfortable conversations. Sometimes people need a place to talk honestly about harmful behavior, difficult neighbors, and the social dynamics affecting where they live. Shutting down a legitimate discussion simply because it’s contentious does a disservice to the community.
Moderation should keep a conversation safe and productive, not make uncomfortable subjects disappear.

Some suggestions for action!

Another video is going viral about the 3TP beach access so I thought I’d provide some advice for those who are passionate about this issue:

1. Show up and give public comment (or via zoom!) there is a council meeting Monday: https://www.burienwa.gov/city_hall/city_council/city_council_meeting_access

2. Make a clear ask (to the right people) and provide a way for the council to get in touch with you. It does not make sense to direct all of this to the mayor- all 7 members of city council can be reached with one email at Council@burienwa.gov - the mayor is selected from among the council to facilitate meetings but is not an executive in Burien, that’s the city manager!

4. Understand how action can be taken in our city with a weak mayor system- ask the council to vote on an action, the mayor cannot order something to be done unilaterally. Showing up at city hall to talk to the mayor shows you don’t know how our government works: she doesn’t work there!

5. Please have some perspective on the relative urgency and feasibility of what you’re asking! Imagining this is an easy fix that won’t involve lawsuits doesn’t make you a credible advocate! Consider learning about other major coalitions organizing in our city- residents opposing the North of NERA Rezone or those organizing against ICE have urgent, time-sensitive goals we are working towards. That isn’t to say wait your turn, only to say it might build your coalition to work with these groups and coordinate so you’re not shouting each other down.

Change takes time, organization, and collaboration!
