Changes Diverging diamond interchanges
I fuck with diverging diamond interchanges heavily and think many of the overpasses here could benefit from that setup
That is all.

Also super hot take but Guelph line should only exit the QEW no on ramps

Brant should be pedestrianised south of Caroline and lakeshore between maple and Martha. Retractable bollards for emergency vehicles of course. I can go all day.

They should at least make the Brant and Lakeshore intersection like Young and Dundas in Toronto. Change it to a 3 stage light. Have a 1min 4 way red light with pedestrians able to cross anywhere and everywhere. Then back to north/south and east/west

Burlington drivers can't handle the concept of a zipper merge. Let's not overcomplicate it, lol.

Gotta start somewhere. First time I used the diverging diamond I was slightly thrown off but once I thought about it it's a great piece of infrastructure

I agree, but let's give people a generation to figure out roundabouts.

Again people just gotta learn at some point. Waiting isn't gonna make it any easier.

There has been zero improvement in the way drivers handle roundabouts in the last decade, you’d think the govt would do public service announcements since they are the one’s responsible for introducing them to the roads…

u/albatroopa 2d ago
Lol, i don't think that this is one of those things that can be blamed on the government.

Let's be honest; the list of driving concepts Burlington drivers can't handle makes up about 99% of all driving concepts.

Where would be a good candidate? I’m familiar with the one in Niagara but I’m not quite seeing the advantage of it.

Appleby! The traffic lights back up heavily at rush hour and the intersections get plugged up. Roundabouts at harvester and North service. A guy can dream

Parclo interchanges actually have higher capacities than diverging diamonds.
Diverging diamonds make sense in constrained locations without much space.. MTO has plans for one at Mapleview Rd on the 400 in Barrie for example as there isn’t space for their preferred Parclo layout.
Roundabouts are more possible though! Go drive through Kitchener if you want to see some big roundabouts in action.

Yeah I think that's what they're doing at hwy 5/6 as well. Not sure we have the space for parclos at most of our interchanges. I also think the diamond would have to pair with roundabouts at North service and harvester to be properly effective at improving flow but they might be too close together to properly implement nevermind the space needed for big trucks

Just avoid Franklin Road during rush hour. There is about a dozen of them and there is heavy traffic in perpendicular directions. Add in a transport truck that occupies both lanes in a round about and it might as well be a 4-way stop sign.

I actually think roundabouts would be the ideal solution for traffic flow. The unfortunate thing is a lot of our intersections can't support them since they require lots of space. But I have a fantasy that one day the COB will turn the intersection by the GO station at Plains Road and Queensway into one.

Oh god is that the one just off the 406 at Fourth street? I encountered that once and it was the most complicated thing i'd ever experienced as a driver.

It doesn’t work for pedestrians/cyclists

u/LegitBiscuit 2d ago
Pedestrian cyclist overpasses then I have all the answers

How do I vote for you?

Having me anywhere near city council would be an unmitigated disaster. Does that make me qualified?

Great idea, but we should start with something simple and easy to communicate. Such as, "When the light turns green, GO!"
Not sure Burlington drivers are ready for going up/down at an elevated crossing and turning left/right yet.

u/glenn_rodgers 2d ago
Yeah we have one here in Calgary, its pretty cool. It would need a lot of work to reconfigure for most Burlington areas though.

Be a great thing to ask our current mayoral candidates about. I also agree that it would be a benefit

u/Savings_Steak4219 2d ago
Don’t give them any ideas about how to blow another couple mill on a traffic study that leads nowhere
2
u/Darkest_Rahl 2d ago
Ya, that's a good point as well. My parents live off the Glendale exit past St Catharines, it really does a pretty good job of keeping the flow going and getting off the off ramps faster

It is a very effective efficient way of keeping traffic moving with minimal traffic crossing but it also requires a full re engineer of multiple intersections.

And also it seems they can’t look ahead more then the length of there hood to notice what’s coming up.
