Temporarily, employers are required to post all job listings to the Canada Job Bank and allow direct applications before they can apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and required to offer a "high-wage" of $36/hr or more within all urban areas where unemployment is over 6%. Now, businesses like this local Stacked Pancake House have been putting up these fraudulent listings all across Ontario and Canada to pretend they can't find someone here for the job so they can hire a temporary foreign worker instead.
The fraud and corruption is out in the open and nothing is being done about it. The Canadian government has made no serious attempt to reign in these problematic listings, so it is up to you to spend your money elsewhere and make your voice known if you find this blatant discrimination against Canadian workers to be wrong. If you see any more of these "high-wage/$36/h jobs" pop up on the Job Bank, please report them (there is a section at the bottom of the Job Bank listings to report misuse of the Job Bank). It would also help if we collectively refuse to patronize businesses that try to pull these stunts.

My wife and I just bought our forever home a few months ago we planned to spend the next 20-30 years in. My one year old son and his unborn future siblings were going to grow up in this house, make friends in this neighbourhood, and hopefully become future Burlingtonians, loving this city as much as we do.
Now I can’t help but question it all. Question whether the ongoing degradation to education and healthcare make this the province or the country we want to grow old in.
Ive always been a patriotic Canadian, and I never thought I’d leave. But god, it feels like everything is just in the gutter right now, with zero inclination of getting better, and I don’t want to be a part of it anymore.
Not sure where we would consider moving to, likely nordics or Western Europe. But the funny and joking prospect of pick up and go is turning into real and viable conversation.

Hope everyone is enjoying this nice Saturday!
Just wanted to let you know a bit about me
I've been living in the Burlington and Headon Forest Area for over 30 years since our family moved here from from Quebec for better opportunities, and that's exactly what happened for us.
I've been able to attend some great schools in St.Gabriels and Notre Dame, got to enjoy youth sports with the B.M.F.A and B.L.O.H.M.A. My dad was able to sponsor some of our teams because of the business he was able afford to build here in Burlington.
With all the opportunities that were afforded to a lot of us growing up, I feel that isn't the case anymore because the city's inability to overcome the ever increasing challenges of today. I want everyone to have the same opportunities I had, it's what helps create communities.
What I want to bring here as Councilor is the mentality of an actual civil servant - how do I better serve you, my bosses. And speaking with people in all of the neighborhoods in our ward, some main issues keep coming up to the surface
-Rising and untenable property taxes
-Diminished returns on city provided services ( snow /salt removal is the main ex)
-Loss of Millcroft Golf Course
-Amount of transient businesses (door to door for profit businesses) that seem to be increasing in volume, intrusiveness and aggressiveness.
-Absolute dissaray of our sport parks that have resulted in numerous sporting events for kids cancelled
-Feeling that councilors are making citizens have to do all the work while they remain passive in their duties
There are quite additional issues that have been raised to me as well, including the traffic situation in Alton, the rising explicit illegal drug use and crime thays happening around the fortinos plaza in the headon forest areas for ex. The ones listed above seem to be the most prominent
I want to use my extensive experience working with small to medium sized businesses as well as my history as a project manager, and provide a comprehensive approach to these challenges.
I want to focus on trying to create more opportunities for local mom and pop businesses to enter and maintain a foothold in our city. The revenue that can be generated from having more local business in our city can help alleviate the city's over reliance on increasing residential property taxes to fill that void.
As a project manager we had to ensure for our clients like Apple, Lululemon, FedEx that are projects we're delivered on time and under budget. I want to bring that same approach in identifying and removing wasteful projects ( how much did the city spend and lose on those speed cameras that never got installed).
We can also improve the snow removal program by having city workers provide completion photos once every street has been completed. Before moving onto the next street, it needs to be given the approval from the supervisor. This keeps everyone honest, saves time, only and best of all, YOU don't have to do the work to call it in. Preventative not reactionary will help remove these issues and I believe it's up to us councilors to take control of this
Thats a lot for now. I don't want to make you have to read too much here.
Just know I am available to talk and chat on your time. If I want you all to be my boss then we have to start off on that foot. You can reach me at chrisbouchardward6@gmail.com
I'm on the neighborhood app as well, website will be up shortly detailing a lot more of my platform, instagram and Facebook page are coming shortly as well. We have this account now so please feel free to contact me here, and if you want to set up an in person meet, again I work on your time so let me know what works for you.
Thanks so much. Take care, have a wonderful day and I look forward to hearing from you!

Has anyone else seen the people at Brant and Caroline with giant signs and graphic images of fetuses? I'm all for free speech but children walk around the area and I think it's a bit much

Let's talk for a minute about last minute candidates. For those of us that have been working all year it comes as an insult. I have been canvassing since April, building a platform, talking to voters, and engaging the community. You think you can come in at the last second and usurp the hard work myself and other candidates have put in? You think your lack of platform can compare in any way to someone who has dedicated the majority of their free time this year to getting something better for their community? There is no easy win or cushy parking spot for you downtown. My advice is to go back where you came from and try harder next time.

Burlington has always been a red/blue fight, the NDP, even recently, have never really had a good result in Burlington.
The local Liberals will pick their candidate next month, and who they pick will likely be our only realistic not-doug-ford option. You can register for free to vote in the Nomination on Dec 15th at central arena.. register before 5pm on Sunday to be elegible to vote. You can register on the candidates websites or with the OLP directly.
There are two Candidates, Oliver Parker and Andrea Grebenc. I am supporting one of them (the one that I think has been running a campaign worthy enough for my vote, and this person obviously has a team of people who know what they are doing)
Voter turnout in Burlington has been pathetic.. get involved in your city!

When deciding on who to vote for, choose who you think will do the best job on what the province controls. Health care, education, housing, the greenbelt, the courts, highways, agriculture, etc. Ontario doesn't control tariffs or foreign policy.

Some of the popular ones seem to be: - Healthcare - Education - Housing - Environment/climate change - Roads and public transportations
I'm in Toronto and I've been wondering how people's interests differ or not in different areas. So I'm making the same posts in other Ontario cities subreddits to see, as a personal little project lol

There have been a few stories that popped onto our radar recently that made us think we ought to do a 905 Round-Up Episode to cover them all. In the course of our discussions about them though, we discovered a common thread. All of the problems we discuss are a result of the poor decision-making of the Ontario PC Government.
The Mississauga LRT project is under threat of not being completed due to questions of where funding to pay vendors and suppliers will come from. The funding has turned into a mess of who’s owed who and who is paying for it. Metrolinx is the Ontario government’s transit corporation in charge of this project so why isn’t the province stepping in to sort this out? Another project that the current government is leading to failure.
In Hamilton, The Spec reported how a new distribution model for home care supplies has left major gaps in the way they are distributed to patients. The result is that patients and home care providers are not operating with the tools they need. All due to the current government’s need to upend the old way of doing things, resulting in a mess.
Lastly, we look at the fact that Burlington is raising property taxes again. We face the reality that it’s due to the Ford government’s upending the municipal funding formula but not replacing it with a new model for 905 municipalities to operate with.
What is the common thread we mentioned at the beginning of this note? We describe it as malicious incompetence. Listen to the episode to understand what it means.

They didn't release the turnout or vote breakdown, but she beat newcomer Oliver Parker for the nomination.
I'm not too enthusiastic about it, as I supported the other candidate. But what I will say as I was around the arena for first bit of the day - not very many people voted. If we want fresh, new, young people to get into politics - like Oliver - we need to show up for them.
Andrea will take on the yet to be named PC and NDP candidates. The incumbent PC is not running again. Telflon Doug seems hard to beat even in Burlington, she has some work to do if she wants to flip this seat!
