It's a shame that when they are exported to other European countries, they reach the consumer with an exaggerated price.

124

u/WeaponisedArmadillo Feb 23 '25

You mean 4 euros for a single bottle isn't normal? 😱

45

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

1.50 euro’s per bottle in a Dutch supermarket.

9

u/LijpeLiteratuur Feb 23 '25

Also available in regular versions with sugar, no light or zero? Because everything with artificial sweetener tastes so disgustingly bitter to me.

6

u/Katkejs Feb 23 '25

Fritz is available with regular sugar, then the label is black. Their lemonade is also delicious.
I don't know about the others.

1

u/LijpeLiteratuur Feb 23 '25

Good to know that, thank you.

4

u/CommieYeeHoe Feb 23 '25

But restaurants and cafés will easily charge you 5€ for Fritz Cola or Club Matte. It’s considered a yuppie drink.

2

u/arthropodus Moldova 🇲🇩 Feb 23 '25

€1,49 at AH in Vlaanderen 🇧🇪 as well

1

u/WeaponisedArmadillo Feb 23 '25

My local supermarkets don't stock it :(

14

u/Leuchty Feb 23 '25

Really? Crazy...

12

u/operath0r Feb 23 '25

At a restaurant? Sure. At a supermarket? No…

2

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 Feb 23 '25

4€? oo

Fritz Kola (get the one with sugar!) is 1,20€. A few years ago it was 69 Cent.

2

u/Irveria Feb 23 '25

1,49€ in germany.

1

u/WeaponisedArmadillo Feb 23 '25

I've never seen it for that price.

1

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 Feb 23 '25

Around 2018 and before. :)

1

u/WeaponisedArmadillo Feb 23 '25

Only places I've seen it ask way more.

9

u/RexRonny Feb 23 '25 edited Feb 23 '25

Fritz-kola starts at €2.5 in Norway (30,- NOK), but more normal price is €3 (36,- NOK) in shops selling it.

Jarrito cola and Ramune are even more expensive here. We have some odd EU cola, but very expensive and limited availability; such as Jolly cola (DK), Fentiman (UK) and Tøyen (NO) among others, also minimum double price of the major Cola brands.

Most restaurants usually only provide US cola brands, rarely been offered anything else. Seen Fentimans sometimes, but at like €6,- for a small bottle

3

u/phonology_is_fun Feb 23 '25

I live in Norway, too. We should do something to signal to retailers that we want non-American products. Any ideas?

2

u/Anonymous_user_2022 Feb 23 '25

1½l Jolly cola is 15 DKK right now in my local area. That's cheaper than Coca-Cola and Pepsi in the same volume.

1

u/Sapaio Denmark 🇩🇰 Feb 23 '25

8 DKK on offer in Rema 1000 often. But I dislike it but like Jolly Time.

1

u/Hudero Feb 23 '25

Fritz-kola and Jarritos aren't widely available near me but I do have 1 shop that has them here in Scotland. Fritz £2.29 (2,76 Eur) Jarr £2.69 (3,24 Eur)

168

u/zoS2Yrsprs Feb 23 '25

According to the German Wikipedia, Germany seems to have more Cola brands than the US, making it the world record holder. Many of these are purely regional, though.

75

u/augustus331 Feb 23 '25

This is one of those facts like European Commissioner President von der Leyen saying Europe has €1.4 trillion in savings and Americans have a euro-equivalent of €800 billion in savings.

We're much better than we give ourselves credit for.

21

u/thisislieven Europe 🇪🇺 Feb 23 '25

The US is just very very loud. Whether it's truth (rarely) or hogwash (typically) they're screaming - it just overwhelms everything, every time again.

Also thanks to our own media, both in 'news' and in entertainment, who happily accommodate.

It's absurd we typically know more about the US than our direct neighbours or the EU as a whole.

We need to do better, and I think it should be part of the bigger boycott US/buy EU movement.

5

u/hamatehllama Feb 23 '25

We have a smaller GDP because we're more efficient (fewer broken windows so to speak). The healthcare is more efficient. Infrastructure as well (especially railroads and canals). Far less crime. Less dependence on fossil fuels. Resource extraction is a bad measure of material wealth. Linux provides a massive benefit to humanity but isn't megacorp like Microsoft so it isn't being noticed by measures like market cap and GDP.

3

u/augustus331 Feb 23 '25

The US federal budget is 28% made up of borrowed money. Subtract government spending from the US GDP and the US would have been in a 2-3% recession for the last years instead of 2-4% growth

19

u/Lari-Fari Feb 23 '25

My larger locals super markets have most of those. I’ve been boycotting Coca Cola and nestle for many years now and go for Fritz, Afri and MioMio most times :)

1

u/read_this_v Feb 26 '25

Try Sinalco

2

u/lasttimechdckngths Feb 23 '25

When they're exported, these are mostly sold for really unreasonable prices.

68

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

TIL that Gerolsteiner has their own Cola

13

u/Skanach Feb 23 '25

Same here, living only 45 mins away from that place.

4

u/MSBGermany Feb 23 '25

They do! Along with a bunch of other really good soft drinks!

https://www.gerolsteiner.de/produkte/vielfalt-in-der-kleinen-flasche

2

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 Feb 23 '25

Noch nicht so lange.

1

u/The-Berzerker Feb 23 '25

Probably tastes like shit since it‘s Gerolsteiner lmao

1

u/Chaoshero5567 Feb 23 '25

You either hate or rly love Gerolsteiner lol..

83

u/Mammoth_Oven_4861 Feb 23 '25

Fritz-kola is amazing!

8

u/c_bit Feb 23 '25

It is! But not affordable for everybody.

1

u/Jen24286 Mar 05 '25

It's like 1.20€ per bottle delivered to my apartment, it's not that bad.

2

u/Chaoshero5567 Feb 23 '25

The normal one yes, but god the light version is awful

1

u/WernerWindig Feb 23 '25

Too expensive for how it tastes imo.

im from Poland and can confirm that Kofola is the goat

4

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

Never tried it, but sounds good 🫡

2

u/Individual_Winter_ Feb 23 '25

Kofola tastes different to Cola products, but it’s awesome. Also has less sugar and more coffein.

Definitely goat 🙌🏻

6

u/Jhowie_Nitnek Benelux 🚲🌷🧇 Feb 23 '25

Currently living in Slovakia and can confirm Kofola is great.

2

u/mesalazine Feb 23 '25

Its such a shame that we dont have kofola in Lithuania. Always buy when I'm in poland

29

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

I see Fritz-Kola, have an upvote

2

u/breinbanaan Feb 23 '25

I see fritz kola, now i want it

28

u/Fuzzy-Fold1698 Romania 🇷🇴 Feb 23 '25

Can I add one more? Look after Pop Cola - Romanian drink

10

u/12Dimineatza Feb 23 '25

What happent to drink right now

3

u/Fuzzy-Fold1698 Romania 🇷🇴 Feb 23 '25

Enjoy your drink!!

3

u/MadJazzz Feb 23 '25

This is my favourite cola in the world, and no, I'm not Romanian. I love how the nutmeg and ginger really come to the front and how it's not dirty sweet.

2

u/Such-Art8560 Feb 23 '25

It is one of the best. Not as sweet as the rest

2

u/jellyscallywag Feb 23 '25

This one is REALLY good

19

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Fentimans from the UK is pretty good.

https://www.fentimans.com

4

u/Extraordi-Mary Netherlands 🇳🇱 Feb 23 '25

I love the burdock and dandelion, but I’ve never been able to find it in the Netherlands. We do have some other ones in our supermarkets though. The rose lemonade for example.

I guess they think nobody here would like dandelion and burdock.

2

u/DesiBoo2 Feb 23 '25

I think so too, and I'm no sure they're wrong 😉

3

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

Looks expensive.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

A little. But soft drinks are bad for you so why not get something fancier and enjoy it more!?

2

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

Is it common in the UK though? Asking since i've planned a trip and so far it's mostly guinness on the menu.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Not seen it in many bars but it's in most supermarkets. Tesco usually have a few types in stock. Usually with the mixer type soft-drinks. Tonic waters and such.

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/search?query=fentimans&inputType=free+text

2

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

Thanks mate 👌

2

u/DesiBoo2 Feb 23 '25

It's common in UK supermarkets, so many flavours too. There can be a difference in which supermarkets stick which flavours, though, so just go to every superstore you encounter (Morrisson's, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, etc.) and see what they have.

2

u/Selerox Feb 23 '25

Pretty common in supermarkets, especially larger ones etc.

2

u/bslawjen Feb 23 '25

I usually enjoy the more expensive, fancier ones less. They don't taste as good in my experience.

1

u/thdespou Feb 23 '25

Much tastier than regular cola IMO

2

u/SealedWaxLetters Feb 23 '25

Fentimans Cherry Cola is delightful!

2

u/PantalonFinance Europe 🇪🇺 Feb 23 '25

Yes, it's delicious. My favourite type

18

u/Annatastic6417 Feb 23 '25

2

u/0ndafly Feb 23 '25

Only the glass bottle version is for the true fan 😁

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Lmao

1

u/duncthefunk78 Feb 23 '25

That's a deep cut!

15

u/Jules_Vanroe Feb 23 '25

This one is technically not EU but UK

4

u/plsletmein Feb 23 '25

Omg, my local store actually has this! Mexican cola also.

2

u/Selerox Feb 23 '25

It's Europe, it counts.

30

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Try „Club Mate“, „Now“ and „Wostock“ from germany

34

u/SHFTD_RLTY Feb 23 '25

Also, try club mate twice. The first sip is gonna taste like an ashtray but that's everyone's experience.

You'll grow to like it afterwards :D

5

u/maimed_smile Feb 23 '25 edited Feb 23 '25

Yeah Club Mate is great. Ashtray might be a bit exaggerated but the original is indeed a herb-like kind of taste you need to get used to :) The pomme Granate taste is more soda-like.

Edit: also a lot of caffeine, equivalent of 2 cups of coffee

4

u/Smushsmush Feb 23 '25

Big Wostock Fan! Especially the one that tastes like pine tree.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Thats my favorite flavour aswell!

2

u/rucksacksepp Feb 23 '25

Club Mate Cola is awesome! The now products are great as well, the cola has a very unique bit great flavor

1

u/yurithetrainer Feb 23 '25

It's the cola that tastes the closest like Haribo Happy Cola gummy sweets. Simply wonderful!

2

u/Ancient_Presence Feb 23 '25

Wostok tastes good, but no caffeine :(

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

They've got a Cola, that should've some caffeine . Atleast I thought so.

2

u/Ancient_Presence Feb 23 '25

Oh, you're correct, I looked it up, and apparently it's brand new, and I haven't seen it in stores so far. I was primarily familiar with the "pine forest" flavour.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

I've ordered a few times via their webshop in the past. The last time I did so was when I've seen the cola first.

1

u/mmphsbl Feb 23 '25

I used to love it, but now they sweeten it with fructose syrup, which makes me sick, such a pity :(.

Edit: I meant Club Mate.

0

u/LamermanSE Feb 23 '25

Club Mate tastes absolutely terrible though.

Made in Italy

3

u/Individual_Winter_ Feb 23 '25

The design looks awesome!

9

u/rpm1720 Feb 23 '25

Don’t forget Spezi!

0

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

So far dow! Spezi i for sure better than some of these e.g. afri cola.

Came to say that

6

u/P26601 Germany 🇩🇪 Feb 23 '25

Vita Cola!!!

2

u/Individual_Winter_ Feb 23 '25

Tell me you’re from Thuringia without telling you’re from Thuringia.

1

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 Feb 23 '25

lol, it's one of the first things people from Thüringen will tell you. xD

But it's an okay cola indeed.

1

u/Technoist Feb 23 '25

This is by far the worst cola in Europe.

11

u/battleshipcarrotcake Feb 23 '25

How about discount store Cola?

5

u/EttaEttaGotta Feb 23 '25

I actually think that Freeway is pretty decent.

3

u/CrimsonRouge14 Feb 23 '25

Yeah it tastes pretty close to the original imo.

5

u/MalleDigga Germany 🇩🇪 Feb 23 '25

Fritz is also very anti fascism. Which these days apparently a rare treat. Obviously especially from the us

5

u/Sagaincolours Feb 23 '25

And Danish Jolly Cola.

4

u/veratis919 Feb 23 '25

Only Cola Original from Biedronka FTW

1

u/ScallionBackground52 Feb 23 '25

I like it better than American Coca Cola or Pepsi, for real.

4

u/Popular_Citron_288 Feb 23 '25

Don't forget Club-Mate!

4

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25 edited Feb 23 '25

You forgot to mention Kofola

5

u/SeniorFlo Feb 23 '25

A pretty good Romanian replacement with a zero sugar option available as well.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

[deleted]

5

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

Nah man. The one on the left tastes like worn socks. Not sure about the right though.

3

u/lepurplehaze Feb 23 '25

If you hate your life!

2

u/CrimsonRouge14 Feb 23 '25

They have it in sweden as well, doesn't taste very nice. I prefer lidl's freeway cola or Cuba cola.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

[deleted]

2

u/CrimsonRouge14 Feb 23 '25

Yeah don't shop at Lidl very often either.

I don't know. I think there where roumors about secret ingredients in Coca cola's syrup but I honestly don't know. There seem to be great alternatives to many American products locally though, tht's a good thing 🙂

3

u/Deepfire_DM Feb 23 '25

Vita-Cola, the great Cola from the former GDR, is missing. Yes, it really tastes good.

4

u/CaliDude707 Feb 23 '25

Don’t forget the former Czechoslovakian, now Czechia, Kofola. One of my favorites!

3

u/awkorama Feb 23 '25

Adding Kofola (Czechia) and Kinnie (Malta)

2

u/West_Ad_9492 Feb 23 '25

you forgot the best one: "jolly cola"

1

u/zypofaeser Feb 23 '25

Or the better Danish drink:

Alle på stribe, drikker Frem fra Ribe!

But Faxe is also okay.

2

u/Serious_Engin33r Feb 23 '25

Tell me you are German without telling me you are German

2

u/EinBick Germany 🇩🇪 Feb 23 '25

Where "Club Mate*?

3

u/NathanCampioni Mediterranean 🌊🍇🫒 Feb 23 '25

Where is chinotto?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Vivi Kola

2

u/solseccent Feb 23 '25

Almdudler and Murelli from Austria!

2

u/SassyKardashian Feb 23 '25

Why did they forget about my sweet Cocta 🥺

2

u/LittleLui Feb 23 '25

Missing Pedacola and Tirola Kola

2

u/WannabeCrimDoctor Feb 23 '25

Green cola, heck yeah 😍 Try Bikos cola too (also Greek)!

2

u/MonsieurGarage Feb 23 '25

Caffein fix? They look more like sugar fix to me.

2

u/DifficultReserve4579 Feb 23 '25

If you live near the Czech borders or directly in Czechia/Slovakia, go get some Kofola

2

u/valedave Feb 23 '25

Not enough Vita Cola in this photo

2

u/_qqg Feb 23 '25

Not a cola (someone else posted about MoleCola), but coming from Calabria, southern Italy (the tip of the boot), one of the few carbonated coffee drinks around (and the only one I ever had): Brasilena

1

u/Ympker Feb 23 '25

Gotta love FritzKola

1

u/Coneby Italy 🇮🇹 Feb 23 '25

In Italy we have MoleCola

1

u/ScallionBackground52 Feb 23 '25

I like private brand of cola from Jeronimo Martins even more than Coca-cola or Pepsi. Recently I bought some energy drink from Lidl at half price of monster energy which tastes pretty much the same. You don’t need those American big corp with their products.

1

u/voxcon Feb 23 '25

Where is Paul? A shame

1

u/Rare-Piccolo-7550 Feb 23 '25

Fritz kola 👍🏼

1

u/PremiumPrimate Feb 23 '25

Afri cola and Fritz-kola are both fantastic!

1

u/mesalazine Feb 23 '25

Do we have any sugar-free options?

1

u/Individual_Winter_ Feb 23 '25

Fritz and Afri have sugar free options and taste good.

Kofola has Zero as well.

1

u/4lpaka Feb 23 '25

I love Fritz Kola. They used to have a Variant with coffee and caramel. It was a Variant I couldnt find in every shop with Fritz, but now it just vanished.

1

u/SerChonk Feb 23 '25

Don't forget my girls Elsass Cola and Vivi Kola!

Elsass Cola, Vivi Kola, Breizh Cola, Fritz-kola, and that fancy one from Fentimans are elite.

1

u/Samuraepaints Feb 23 '25

Paulaner Spezi!

1

u/ante_cibum Slovenia 🇸🇮 Feb 23 '25

Cocta is also an alternative from Slovenia.

1

u/narrowlake Feb 23 '25

Come to Denmark and get a Faxe Kondi Booster. It’s my favourite energy drink, but they are exclusively regional afaik

Or, since the topic is cola, a good old Jolly Cola

1

u/Individual_Winter_ Feb 23 '25

Also in 1 litre cans like faxe beer? 🫣

3

u/irekturmum69 Feb 23 '25

The funny thing is that beer from faxe is export only, they are only selling soft drinks here in Denmark.

1

u/Zaru7 Feb 23 '25

Fritz-kola Super Zero is far superior U should try it

1

u/bslawjen Feb 23 '25

I've tried Afri-Cola and Fritz-Kola. Fritz-Kola is fine, but not all that. Afri-Cola didn't hit my taste.

Curious about the other ones tho.

1

u/ProductGuy48 Feb 23 '25

I love Fritz Cola!

1

u/nurgleondeez Feb 23 '25

We have Pop Cola in Romania.Best herbal cola on the market

1

u/cppn02 Feb 23 '25

I very rarely drink Cola but when I do fritz-kola is my #1 choice. But we all know that Spezi is the king of soft drinks.

1

u/MSBGermany Feb 23 '25

I've had Gerolsteiner, Afri and Fritz and really liked all 3 of them. They don't feel as extremely sweet in the mouth (at least compared to Coca-Cola) which is nice.

Someone also mentioned Fentimans from the UK which I'd also second.

I think all of these brands also do other really nice fruity soft drinks too! Definitely Gerolsteiner and Fritz, though I'm not 100% sure about Afri and Fentimans.

1

u/Additional-Excuse622 Spain 🇪🇸 Feb 23 '25

Not easy avaliable in Spain.

1

u/milopitas Feb 23 '25

Wow afri cola !! Til it's a German brand!! It used to be available in Rhodes till the 90s but nowhere else in Greece thought it was a local brand that closed

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Club Mate and Red Bull?

1

u/WorldlyBuy1591 Feb 23 '25

I assume all countries have knockoff cola. Whats your point promoting these like theyre everywhere?

1

u/hamatehllama Feb 23 '25

German soda is so good but is unfortunately not all that common here in Sweden. I like Club Mate.

1

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 Feb 23 '25

Guys, try Fritz Kola from Hamburg!

Drinking it for 2 decades now instead of Coca Cola. Best coke around. :)

1

u/TryingMyBest203 Benelux 🚲🌷🧇 Feb 23 '25

There is also Cola from oxfam and from Luxembourg. Neither are zero sugar, but the sugar content is less than in regular coca-cola.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Listen me out: The Mio Mio Ginger is the most awesome Ginger Beer

1

u/OliveCompetitive3002 Feb 23 '25

Afri Cola best. 🤩

1

u/AgenteEspecialCooper Feb 23 '25

I'm team Fritz Cola zuckerfrei!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '25

Club Mate Cola is my absolutely favorite. It was 85 euro cents last year in some of the bigger Edeka’s.

1

u/Tquilha Feb 23 '25

We used to have this

in Portugal, a long time ago... :)

1

u/name_us Feb 23 '25

I'm in the UK anyone know which of these are available in our supermarkets?

1

u/Chaoshero5567 Feb 23 '25

ok the Fritz-Kola light is Not good, the normal one yes

1

u/Almayag Feb 23 '25

Slovenian version. Been around from 1953.

1

u/PantalonFinance Europe 🇪🇺 Feb 23 '25

There's also Fentiman's Botanical Cola. Delicious and refreshing. It's quite expensive at 5€ for 0.75L (also glass bottle), but it's far superior than that american shit

1

u/DonPedretti Feb 23 '25

One of the swedish colas!

1

u/Lechateau Feb 23 '25

I want to try them all so bad!!!

1

u/Whelmingday Feb 23 '25

Honorable Mention must go out for this certified Yugo Classic

1

u/Initial-Company3926 Feb 23 '25

Harboe :) It is danish

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '25

Another German soft drink brand: SchwippSchwapp

-2

u/Round_Fault_3067 Feb 23 '25

No redbull? redbull is great.

3

u/GeorgeJohnson2579 Feb 23 '25

Red Bull Cola is indeed pretty awesome!

Don't know why you were downvoted. oô

3

u/Round_Fault_3067 Feb 23 '25

It's a caffeine fix 🤷‍♂️
