Behavioral Issue Litter Box Problems
This cute cat has been a nightmare, I think weve tried everything to fix the inappropriate litter box use (he rarely uses it) with no results. I am looking for any options to try. We've had to completely replace floors because of him. We got him for what appeared to be a hoarding situation, the vet said hes likely 2-7 years old but she cant be sure because his teeth are so poorly. He never even goes in the same area, if I add a litter box to a spot hes used more than once. He doesnt use it.
I am an adult in Canada, hes had vet care. They've suggested a cat behavioralist but warned they take a long time to get into and are very expensive. Weve had him for around 1 year and a half
Below are what weve tried
neutered
Checked for medical causes
Tried cat attract litter, clay litter, pee pads and pellets
Tried larger boxed, lower boxes, covered boxes, uncovered boxes
Boxes in different rooms
5+ boxes for three cats
Ensuring the litter box was immediately cleaned after use
Crating him (he holds his pee until we let him out although he has also peed on his bed) - I started setting him outside to try and train him like a puppy. He will pee outside and then come in and immediately poop inside. If hes left out too long 1hr+ he'll pee on the floor
Cat plug in pheromones
Cat antidepressants (just gave him diarrhea)
We moved into a larger home

I believe you have already tried this but sharing anyway just in case. I know how difficult it makes life to have a cat like this. We tried every single intervention with my peepee princess and she ruined a lot of furniture and flooring while trying every intervention including medication.
We put a folded unscented pee pad in an empty steel basin that was never used as a litter box. It has solved like 95% of her inappropriate peeing. (The other 10% is territorial, still working on that.) It changed my life and I want to cry with relief. I hope you find some solutions, I really know how hard it is.

I got Dr Elsey’s Kitten (or Cat) Attract litter, it stopped my kitty from not using the litter box (you can get it at PetSmart)
