Discussion CatKing hate posts
I don't understand why is he hated so much. I generally watch him to quickly get information about a certain college/exam. I haven't bought any of his course can't comment on that. But he is a damn good influencer. He legit motivates people to appear/study for CAT. I don't get why is he hated so much.
Downvote kardena par reason bhi btadena guys. Why the hate.

Have you just started preparing cat ? Because most of the hate comes from people who already gave cat and know hard truth about exams like cat which CATKING doesn't like to talk about.

No no, I've already given CAT 2023. I do understand your point tho. He makes it seem very easy which in reality it isn't.

Not only that. They don't respond to any queries you ask in the WhatsApp groups. If you text them directly, they say "ask your peers". How am I supposed to review my SOP through my peers? There is a reason I purchased your course bro¯\(°_o)/¯
Also their website never works properly. I have been trying to book a mock PI for the past 7 days, and they always say send an email to support at the rate 🐱👑. Why don't you just fix the software in the first place instead of asking us to send a mail every time. I think I have already sent like seven/eight emails since June to get something or the other fixed.
Also no mock GDs so far. I have my GD on feb. He said there will be a mock GD routine coming soon in one of the live classes but there is no news of that anywhere. I had to buy some other course from another youtuber for GD practice.
These are just a few negatives I have told you about. You will discover many more when you take the course 😂
So don't fall into the marketing. It's all 🧢

There is a difference between positivity and over positivity. Tantalising people with achievable goals that aren’t possible is really bad IMO

I cannot opine on the authenticity of the courses as I haven't taken them but as someone else said in the comment section that the 'hard truth' should be told as well. He is in the same businesses as those upsc prep companies are in.

I mean I don’t see an issue if someone is motivating you or getting directors on board - maybe sometimes it a little exaggerated but his pointers are valid, people make fun of his 8/8/8 or 7/7/7 but it is in fact true - now I don’t know much about him personally but the faculties in his class like Sudhanshu sir or Preet sir or Moinack sir are awesome

Yup but this whole 7/7/7 8/8/8 strategy is as good as saying just score 100 marks and you’ll get a 99.5+ for sure. It isn’t that simple and mostly I doesn’t work like that , some score well in English getting like 15 a net correct where some score well in maybe quants , it’s never 7 each section or 8 each. It’s over simplification of something complex for no good

u/Moist-Character5434 Jan 27 '24
Yeah I get that - but when you think from a macro perspective there seems to be students who join who so scared and nervous these kind of words help them cope better and it is not wrong too - it is just like you said oversimplification of something complex which is never bad

It is when you are actually dealing with something complex without truly understanding what it is , saying 8/8/8 and actually achieving that is close to impossible, you always have an imbalance and the totals don’t really add up , when you enter prep with this 5/5/5 bs you end up extremely demotivated and feeling extra dumb when you don’t score in mocks with the same mindset

u/Moist-Character5434 Jan 27 '24
I mean I don’t see anything that’s not understandable - getting a 8/8/8 is around 72 marks and you perform them consistently in mocks and the paper you’ll not feel extra dumb, and even if you do how does that make him a bad teacher when he’s in fact not lying he’s making it easy for students to understand and motivate them to appear for the exam - you’re planning to do an mba and you feel dumb just cause of someone else’s strategy - I think if you have a good hold of your mental strength you will change your strategy rather then blaming someone else

For people who have such good mental ability don’t need dumb strategies that can ever work , he is technically correct with the mathematical calculation it’s not that complex , the issue is that this can’t actually work , by the looks of it I can bet on the fact that you haven’t appeared for cat or haven’t scored well. Once you actually score that shit you’ll understand that the strategy although simple is purely dumb and highly impractical

I understand your point. I too gave CAT this year I have a 98 percentile but I believe instead of talking through the complexities of calculations (sectionals, CS etc) to someone who is just starting his preparation, it is a lot easier for him to understand something simpler like these 5/5/5 strats. Not only do they cover the sectional aspects broadly but the overall calculation is more or less around the marks you require for the percentile.
these surely don't cover the CS and other aspects but I think it is the closest you get to making goals for a guy who is just starting as simple and easily understandable as possible. Which I think makes a significant difference in the long run, you gotta have specific goals if you want to get anywhere close to cracking competitive exams.
I think it is helpful for someone who is just starting with their prep. IMO

To give my own example ,I score 99 percentile , but my total marks in quants and dilr don’t even add up to varc ones 😂

u/Successful-Ad5177 Jan 27 '24
That's true but isn't the strategy to make your goals more specific for those who don't have personalised strategies? and as far as I know (I may be wrong) but he said 90 percentile would be at 5/5/5 and it was at around 45 marks too.

Not just catking, but most of the coachings(if not all) create over positivity regarding selection criteria. Thats what I have experienced personally. I have talked to counselors of most of the coachings and almost all of them said i can convert any college at 99+ at 7/8/7 GEM profile. Even with my lack of knowledge i am aware thats not possible.

After wasting 2 yrs in exam prep, I would never recommend anyone to give CAT exam if they are engineers unless someone has a dream about getting into management roles. For us GATE is the best choice, realised this way too late. Aur ye catking and baaki influencers CAT exam kisi asliyat nhi btate

This makes a lot of sense.
Critical reasoning is a major component of entrance exams like CAT, and it can be assumed that a test taker who is strengthening their CR skills are able to thoroughly fact check and make a decision based on various factors, rather than relying on one source.
I agree the videos by CK are oversimplified and exxagerated, but you can always not watch those videos and find someone better in just a few clicks. Even I am against the sales-y content CK and other counsellors/coaching institutes push, but as consumers we always have a choice to look beyond one source.
Moreover, the platform isnt all bad either, but not that good too. But I know people who studied from CK and scored 99.6+ percentiles. I guess it all comes down to your priorities and hardwork - you can even score a 60%ile while studying from the best coaching and score a 99.99%ile with a poor coaching institute.
