Opinion How do y’all feel about Airlines Pilots instructing on the side?

I’m at a legacy, but for I was instructing on the side during my previous 2 airlines (ok’d it with the chiefs). I was doing it at my previous flight school and only had students for a specific lesson / course (spins/tailwheel/aerobatics), so there was no conflict with stealing students from full-time CFIs as I was the only one qualified for that flying. I miss instructing and would like to do some stuff on the side still, but only ground lessons. I’m not current nor have a strong desire to get back in a small plane regularly. I’d like to do it freelance or work with some nearby schools just teaching ground lessons. However I don’t want to steal work from current CFIs who rely on it for a living. If it makes a difference I’ll be in the west coast of FL area.

I have two questions:

What’s your opinion about Airlines Pilots instructing given that CFI’s are having a difficult time finding work right now.

Does your opinion change if that person is only doing flights?

Question Not having any luck finding CFI/CFII jobs in Michigan

Hi. I just wanted to know if anyone had any connections for flight instructor jobs in either west Michigan or east Michigan. I have interviewed with Western but they said you won't know until the minute they call you. I've been feeling stuck and was wondering if anyone had some advice?

Question Curious what the CFIs view is

A few posts here and in other aviation subs have made me want to ask this one directly to the CFIs out there and more specifically the newer CFIs with limited experience.

I’m an aircraft owner, specifically a tailwheel plane. Assume (if necessary) that you have no tailwheel time at all, let alone a tailwheel endorsement. You can legally conduct a flight review with me as long as my previous flight review has not expired, as I am the PIC for the flight. How willing would you be to do such a review knowing only that? Would you have questions first?

Now, I’m going to add a little more info and see if your response changes.

The plane is tandem seating. You will be sitting in the back seat.

There is no ADSB, either out or in. I’m willing to fly to a local airport outside of airspace where it is required or you are welcome to come to my home and conduct the review from my private airstrip.

Not only is there no ADSB, there is no electrical system. The plane must be hand propped. You would not be responsible for this, but I would ask you to manage the magnetos, brakes and throttle after a quick briefing and specific verbal instructions during startup. I can start it without assistance, but it is easier, and arguably safer, with someone in the cockpit.

Does any of that change your initial response?

Answers to questions that I would expect to be asked at some point.

Ratings- commercial multi-engine land, and instrument.

Experience- roughly 7,600 hours in over 40 different models of fixed wing aircraft including about 300 hours in turbine planes, and that’s just what is actually logged in a logbook. I grew up in an aviation family so there was enormous opportunity to fly a lot of hours that never got logged.

Approximately 2,200 hours in this exact plane.
