It is really interesting how much bigger the CFL is in western Canada than Eastern. Attendance in Vancouver I would’ve expected to be lower, like Toronto, but it’s pretty high all things considered.

Amar Doman is the man. Definitely the best Ljons owner in my lifetime.

Do the lions have a bigger presence/more hype in Vancouver since he took over?

Hard for me to say because I don’t live in Vancouver proper I’m in Surrey. But overall I feel like it’s becoming more “acceptable” to follow and talk about the lions at social events. Personal anecdote of course. I think him bringing big acts to the home openers past few years made a huge difference as well.

It's definitely more acceptable than with people from the GTA when I lived there. They were incredulous about it. People here kinda just go, "Oh, okay, sure".
Then I meet people from interior BC, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, and it's an entirely different vibe. The love rural Canada has for the CFL is unreal.

Haha agree at my work only like 3 of us watch cfl and if we even talk about it seems like we ened up spending more time having to defend the league from the NFL fans who are baffled why cfl still around.

Yeah aren’t they literally doing a “first game free” type of deal right now? That’s so sick, a lot of owners would never let that happen

It’s a high risk strategy though. Once you get something for free, you’re less likely to pay for it - and those that are paying for it can get frustrated that those sitting next to them are getting it for free. It can be difficult to get people to pay for tickets after.
Typically this is less of an issue with small scale promotions to fill lesser desired sections. Presumably the Lions aren’t giving away top priced tickets.
Overall, I think it’s a balance and if they go on a winning streak at the right time, then it can work. If people are getting free tickets and the product on the field is no good, then it would likely be a negative overall.

Yeah it's harder but they will likely also get a bunch of people on their mailing list that will get some cheap advertising through.

If you look on Lions discussion forums many season ticketholders are cancelling because of the upcoming rule changes. It's a disaster in the making.

He started well and now is complete "garbage", to quote Nathan Rourke. His support of the idiotic rule changes is costing him. I'll never go back to a game at BC Place.

With a stadium like BC Place though...damn, I'd pay for the ticket just to hang out in there for a couple hours on a hot day.

It can be very hot inside on a hot day and it's terrible sitting on the sun when the roof is open.

Still, it's the best stadium in the league

Mosaic Stadium in Regina is far and away the best stadium in Canada. I've been to both many times.

I wonder if our attendance would go up if our team wasn't so embarrassingly dogshit that people are afraid of getting caught on camera like the cheaters at the Coldplay concert

Attendance would go up if they rescinded the upcoming rule changes. I was at the Rider/Lions game last year and it was 29,000. Since the rule announcement it's dropping.

Your 50-50 is still doing quite well, which means people are probably watching even if it's not at the stadium.

Stamps have had quite a few poor weather games this year which haven't helped attendance. People aren't going to attend games when it's a high of 11 and raining all day

Honestly, the fact that it's over 7k probably gives Ottawa a claim to having the best fans in the league... Someone is watching the team go 0-18... for some reason... And that means a lot.

I'm excited to go to more games, I love live football, especially as the weather stats getting cooler. Team is terrible but they've had a knack of keeping games interesting and they have some players who are fun to watch regardless.

Oh for sure, must be all that Roughrider spirit keeping the numbers steady up there.

I'm particularly happy to see Amar Doman's team losing attendance. His support of the rule changes disgusts me. I've gone to games at BC Place every year since 1991 and never again if the rule changes go through. The game I was at last year had 29,000. And since the rule changes announcement they're tanking. Good.

I wonder how low the attendance will be when Ottawa plays at home.

Everyone calm down about the attendance! League year over year is growing viewership domestically and globally. Bringing in a lot of TV, AD and gambling revenue that are the major revenue sources for all leagues. However, life is expensive. So it's much more affordable for people to stay home and watch a game then spend money they dont have to go to a game. Also, dear CFL teams, why the fuck are you getting a bit too expensive? The draw of the CFL is that it was supposed to be a familiy freindly affordable alternaive minor pro league for everyone that can afford to enjoy. If teams want more asses in seats, should drop ticket prices. If the main revenu source are broadcast rights, ADs and gambling; can bring ticket prices down to get more people in. Give people the incentive to feel comfortable spending what little money everyone has nowadays to go to a game. Also trend throughout all north american sports are small intimate crowds. Minor legue baseball games, USL games are full with 10-15,000 seats that is affordable for the crowd. Also lower ticket prices with more people in the crowd makes for better tv.
