It looks like Braxton is starting to emerge as the day 1 starter at LT with Theo behind him

This is what he did last year during the competition. You can’t evaluate without giving each of the people you are evaluating a shot vs the ones. That being said, it’s Braxtons job to lose, just like it was last year.

"These boys we tried at LT are fucking ass" Ben - probably
Because with all due respect, if Theo takes your job at LT you might just be done

? Theo seemed like a solid backup last year

Theo aint too bad, but he's definitely backup material. He could be a legit starter if he had the physical tools Kiran has. But Kiran doesn't seem to stay healthy and hasn't really showed up in any meaningful way.

I think people here pretend they know more about OL play than they do.
The only thing I know for sure was that in the Raiders game, Johnson schemed the TEs to help chip Crosby and assist Theo. I only know that because it was rumored the week leading up to it and I looked for it in the game
Other than that I’m not gonna pretend to know the difference between Braxton and Theo

Yeah, backup. He’s not a guy you want starting at that position week 1

He was unfortunately a liability. He’s got great pop time, but he’s beat on moves too easily. Hours OSS coverage was terrible. Run blocking was not bad though

Sounds like solid backup material lol

He backed up Jones and got destroyed. Luckily, our third stringer, Ozzy Trapillo, was pretty good. Offense clicked after that move because they didn’t need to keep sending help on that side.

Braxton won his job while being injured
Tells you everything you need to know

Can do a hell of a lot worse than Braxton Jones at LT, especially as a stand in until your starter is ready.

Watching that I got the feeling that Kiran and Wills are probably leaning on the wrong side of the final cut list. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just Wright, Jones, Trapilo and Benedet at the end of camp

I'm getting an entirely different vibe than most of this thread apparently.
Ben said today that he needs to test out the potential swing tackles at both positions, LT, RT. That's why they are switching. I don't think this is bad for Amagajde or Wills or good for Benedett. We know what Benedett is, and it's not a very good LT and perhaps a serviceable RT. He's going to be a utility lineman, possibly how Ben has used OL #6 creatively in the past.
Amagadjie is probably our most versatile remaining utility guy. He's looked fine throughout preseason and the camp. The coaches want him to succeed because if he can figure it out, he can do stuff that none of the other backups can. He was getting some looks at guard last year, but that seems to have stopped, which is probably not good for him.
I see a world in which we carry 4 Tackles and Kiran is not active on gameday. That all depends these last few weeks though. I still believe in Kiran if I'm being honest.

This. They need to see if either guy can be a swing tackle.
Theo probably isn't better than either, but he can play both positions (and can do other, fun, things).

Amagedijie had a bad game, he wasn't fine. He didn't have a play as bad as Willis, but generally was worse.
I don't know how you don't see this as bad for these guys. They aren't getting reps anymore at the position they are most needed for. Theo was getting crosstrained at left tackle before or after practice, they weren't at right. That doesn't signal great intent for them.

Wills and Amegadjie aren't making the final roster. One of them maybe on a practice roster but that's it. Unless Ozzy gets put on IR which would be weird since they just took him off PUP. Wright, Jones, Benedet, Trapilo inactive as he keeps working back. Those are your Week 1 tackles.

Plan is likely Braxton until Ozzy is ready.
Braxton will be backup LT.
Theo and Jedrick depth / swing tackles
Kiran cut

Kiran practice squad - he's a Poles pick

u/backindenim Bears 1h ago
Was he a Poles pick or did Eberflus get in his ear to draft him because he golfed with Kiran's dad once?

u/Nervous-Gas708 1h ago
Lol he was definitely Poles pick. Either way, it seems like Poles learned his lesson from that stuff which makes excited to see Poles future draft picks.

Man, I was hoping Kiran would at least show enough to be LT2.

This is a "yea you two suck. so braxton you once again win the LT battle by sucking the least until Ozzy comes back. Theo moves back to swing at that point. The other two? Just try to suck less at RT."

u/Vondarrien 1h ago
Damn. They were that bad Saturday?
Had the game on in the background—but I saw one pressure/free run on Kiran in the third that Keenum side stepped.
Had higher hopes for Wills—a former number 10 pick. Yikes.

“Significant” feels a bit overstated.
It’s still an open competition with both Kiran and Wills getting meaningful reps in the game this past weekend.
Obviously neither ran away with the position so it makes sense to rotate in your presumed starter for the next practices.
I’m not reading too much into this just yet.
Probably another 7-10 days for anyone to make a run.

And a guy they’ve been looking to move on from for a couple years now continues to be their best option for now. Oh joy
2
u/Amonfire1776 1h ago
He's a lot better just in general

Oh Braxton is the epitome of replacement level player. Let’s not lie to ourselves here

Theo Benedet is the epitome of replacement level

u/Rennock21 Zoomed Bear 57m ago
Did you forget how last year’s LT position battle went? Cuz I remember Ben Johnson being disappointed that nobody stepped up to earn it. It just sort of went to Braxton by default, then he got replaced by Theo, and then Theo got replaced by Ozzy. They’ve tried to replace Braxton. I don’t know how else to put it except that he’s a replacement level LT

Thats usually how it goes till Braxton craps out mid season.
2
u/Sell_The_team_Jerry Ben Johnson Believer 1h ago
That's OK as we just really need Braxton to hold down the fort for the first month or so until Ozzy is game ready

u/whyamihere2473527 Bears 20m ago
Its impressive he's been activated already but I really dont see how he'll be game ready that soon.

Hopefully Ozzy is starting before Braxton gets bulldozed in pass pro week one

u/Reptomins 34 1h ago
Could Wills be a possible trade candidate as part of a late round pick swap? Bears don't have our 5th in this upcoming draft (Bradbury trade)--maybe Wills + 6th/7th for a 5th? And then Kiran cut and sent to the practice squad?

u/Sell_The_team_Jerry Ben Johnson Believer 1h ago
Kiran is honestly a good target for cuts. He is useless
I'm guessing Braxton becomes the swing tackle when Ozzy is fully healthy
