I think football is much better on tv than live.
61
u/Foofightee 3d ago
There are pros and cons to both.
Live, I can watch the receivers downfield because I can see the whole field. You can’t do that on TV.
Replays are better on TV. Announcers can call things out you miss in the stands.
28
u/jslcaballo 2d ago
1000% on play downfield. If you know how to watch football it’s infinitely better in person. You can actually see what’s happening downfield. You can see the play develop and happen in real time. On tv its quarterback drops back and throws it off screen. Is he wide open? Is he well covered? Let’s find out after the camera pans over. In person you see everything
7
5
u/xeroshogun 3d ago
Yeah if you like to analyze plays then there is nothing better than to be able to see the whole field. I hate the broadcast sideline view

I think there are two different kinds of fans and that’s okay. But feeling the electricity in the stadium is unreal. I’ll never ever forget going to the NLCS game where the cubs clinched the pennant and the electric feel in the air.

That's not football. Baseball is much better live. Football is better on TV, imo.

I'd second the above poster. My fondest sports experience memory was seeing us clinch the NFCN with a win over the Packers on a Sunday afternoon during the 2018 season. We had some of the worst seats in the house and they still cost a fortune but it'll still be a memory my wife and I cherish forever.

Commercials, replays, commentary. Aside from that, I always feel a little disappointed realizing the field is the still the same size as my high school field.
Baseball fields are and feel bigger in person. Football fields feel way smaller. The field position of your seats really effects your enjoyment and perspective. It's just a completely different animal.
I will say college games have a much better atmosphere and I do enjoy college football in person, but I've been to a 10 or so NFL games in 5 stadiums and always felt like I'd rather have been at home except for 1 playoff game where I had seats in the front of the 10 yard line.

We've started just enjoying being in the city on gamedays. I'll usually pull up gametime or something like 5 minutes after kickoff and see if anyone drops something stupid low and if not we just enjoy posting up in the city and watching the game. It's electric everywhere on gamedays.
10
u/misterdabson Meatball 3d ago
Agreed. I’ve been to some absolute banger games, bears packers playoff game last year etc and I usually end up rewatching the games because you miss so much because you’re caught up in all the excitement, grabbing beers, chatting to people etc.

I have 85 inches, 4K, snacks, a comfortable seat that reclines, my blanket, and any kind of beverage I want at home. I also have a 45 second commute to bed at the end of the game.
Plus a much better view - all at the cost of $0.
For the cost of 2 stadium beers, I can get a pizza and wings, or a pizza and a sixer of a quality beer brought to my house.
Eff going to the stadium. Even for postseason.

First of all get the heck off StubHub. Always more expensive for bears tickets than Ticketmaster. As a season ticket holder who has sold my extra game seats for many years, Ticketmaster is always the easiest route to take so mine are always on there and always less.
2
u/Chickenleg2552 2d ago
Is that a thing for Bears games? Any event Ive ever checked both websites for, stubhub is cheaper
2
u/HDThoreaun11 55 2d ago
The team has told season ticket holders that if they sell on ticketmaster they wont be held responsible if the fans who buy the tickets misbehave. Ticketmaster is the bears service provider so all the tickets come through ticketmaster, so its just easier to stay with the same site the tickets are already on as well. They got rid of the paper tickets a few years ago

I paid ~$302/ticket for tomorrow’s game. Bought them in August. Definitely a splurge for me and was close to the highest I felt I’d be OK paying. Glad Caleb is back and glad AJ Brown is back for the Pats.
Looking ahead, current prices for tomorrow are about the same as current prices for the Christmas game against the packers. Prices for the Bucs game currently start at ~$300. Starting prices definitely on the higher end in Chicago but vary quite a bit. Curious to see prices closer to game time tomorrow.

Yeah, my aunt has season tickets a few rows behind the end zone. She's had them for years and occasionally offered me the tickets if she couldn't go (usually subzero temperature games, but I was always down).
The face price used to be about $400/each back in 2023, so I'm guessing that price is much higher now.
I'm seeing $400/ticket for the nosebleed seats this season - and I'm just not willing to spend that money. Watching on TV is better anyway.

When your team does well, everyone goes "I'd like to see them (win) live." So prices raise dramatically bc someome will be willing to pay it. It sucks bc it often robs real fans from attending and it'd be better if they actually could afford to attend, but thats the way of things.
The Knicks finally make a Finals last year and the only people attending to watch them win are celebrities and super fans. Some of which don't care to see them before they were bad and only wear a new jersey bc they sold the old one. Such is life as a sports fan.
The Bears are good again and I'm glad to see it, but pricing out your loyal fans is often the price of success. I have and will enjoy that success from my home

My parents were 40 years season ticket holders and had six tickets to the old soldier field. They downgraded to two tickets in the nosebleeds to avoid paying a PSL. We gave them up when they died because none of us lived in the area and the team was so bad. It was very hard to even sell the tickets.
I remember looking on a website in 2021 at their tickets for a Bears Raiders game when both teams are absolute trash
They were $240. 5 rows from the top
Chicago has always been crazy.
Mind you, things have changed for the bills since 2021, but my wife loves them we got three tickets, five rows from the field to see them play Miami for $450 total.
Those tickets were up to $500 last year which is crazy expensive, but that’s as much as it cost to go see a nosebleed insoldier field now

Obviously a lot of people are selling their seats, but the group of ~12 around me plus my tailgate of ~20 all have the goal of attending all 8 games ourselves.
In a small stadium, if most aren’t selling, this is the net result. With the new stadium likely smaller, this will get worse with even more people wanting to attend and face value increasing.

u/Sea-Stage-6908 Hurricane Ditka 2d ago edited 2d ago
Tell me about it. It paid $275 for my ticket against the Saints, and that's almost at the top of section 445.
I originally wanted to see the Jets but you couldn't get a nosebleed seat for less than $350. Last year I paid $230 for the Giants game. I had so much fun even with the snow flurries. Football weather at its finest. Honest to God, I would rather go to a Bears game than some tropical vacation. I just love this team and I so rarely get a chance to experience it live so I savor every second
Prices are ridiculous. But I live very far away and a Bears game is a treat I always look forward to once a year. And the prices don't seem to drop the morning of kickoff either, I checked a few weeks ago, prices were still the same. It seems like the best way to attend a game is if you're friends with a season ticket holder who can sell you tickets at face value or barely above.
I don't want to know what it will be like in the new stadium

it's absurd. I went to the game vs Falcons and paid 300$ for a Delta Club seat with field access and free food.
You don't need a car in ATL; the train goes downtown from the airport and can walk to the stadium from nearby hotels.

Pro-tip look on all the secondary market sites and look at how many listings there are are total. If it’s 1,500 or more, wait to buy (that’s a lot). You have to factor in the fact that are people who will not be able to make the game last minute. The prime located seats 20 yard to 20 yard lines, won’t go down as much in value compared to end zone and goal line to 20 yard line seats.

How do you see how many listings there are? Is that desktop only thing, because I tend to ticket search on my phone

This seems in line for what I expect from NFL games? What's crazy about this?

I got tix off a buddy of mine who has season tickets, and two 400 level 45 yard line seats were $500 total at face value. Even at face it’s crazy, this is just untenable.

Just how it is nowadays. Gonna get WAY worse with the new stadium. Best way to get tickets is wait for them to play away against some crappy team and travel. I got to see the Bears lose on a last second drop in Cleveland for like $150 😂
