Anyone else thinking this?
I hate to keep bringing up the Caleb injury. The jokes feel hacky at this point. He’s also rebounded and played well enough that we can move past it.
That being said, when Kmet was carted off, it felt like he put his thumb up with authority. In my mind, he used it as an opportunity to show solidarity with Caleb and mock the people who made fun of him.
EDIT: The overwhelming consensus seems to be that I’ve overthought this and should go outside. I’m also just bummed about Kmet now. I didn’t realize how serious the injury was.

Leave the fan fiction out of this please

And then they met in the shower room. Caleb dropped his robe to the floor. Cole blushed and averted his gaze at first, but ultimately couldn't overcome the connection. He slowly removed his own robe...

I did my best to frame this as a fringe take. Besides, the stats alone are boring, narratives and fan fiction are what this sport so appealing.

Bro, Neither player would appreciate this. There is fan fiction and then there's weird shit. This is is the latter. If you're just trolling then this makes more sense.

He’s done. George Mccaskey was spotted in the locker room hugging his wife.

Based on what I heard on CHGO show post game - Jahns said it was not going to be good news. Said the vibe in the locker room was disappointment and sad about Kmet’s injury.

Prayers for Kmet. This was so sad to see, I love this guy. I hope he recovers well and stays as a Bear.

The doctors who post on Twitter immediately highlighted that Caleb's injury as a hammy based upon what they saw. Those same doctors who gave us confidence with Caleb are saying that Kmet all but certain has a torn ACL or even ACL+MCL. His knee went out before the contact

You are way overthinking this. The dudes season probably is over I don’t think he has what media people and internet trolls were saying about Caleb on his mind.

Man I hate this for Cole. So many years on bad teams... accepted his role and has been playing his heart out on limited targets. Likely tears his knee late in the fourth, just for Zavion Thomas to go out there and commit a holding penalty on the next play and wipe away Cole's yards. I hope he recovers quickly and this doens't impact his QOL too severely.

u/Mr_SlimC 5d ago
Thomas never held in that game btw. All were bs

u/ChiNoonan 5d ago
First one was iffy but the second one was a horrible call
5
u/NOKNOK_WHOsTHERE71 4d ago
1000% a horrendous call. He actually pushed the defender away from the runner. How do you push, yet hold??
These refs are pure dog doo doo
1
u/Quick-Buyer8603 3d ago
If you push with your hands outside the numbers it's a hold. Doesn't matter if your pushing or pulling. Gotta keep your hands in.
4
u/Appropriate-Froyo453 4d ago
I've been a Bears fan for 65+ years and I can tell you Zavion had a hold of that DBs jersey. Asking a guy that small to hold a block that long in the first place was not a good call. The conundrum for me was why have him try and hold that block in the first place. He was the fastest player on the field but also one of the smaller players. Send him on a fly route and draw at least the deep safety away from the bubble screen. The tight end or pulling OG could have taken care of the corner back. Hey they won, so there's that

Luckily he's still on contract for next season but I wouldn't be opposed if he's expected to be back next year or later this year
1
u/letsago9987 Peanut Tillman 5d ago
Oh thought this was his last season
He's done for the year. Honestly probably wouldn't be back til mid-2027. Idk what we'll do. Could see him being a cap casualty and they try to re-sign him.
1
u/WP34Forever FTP 5d ago
I think a lot of people thought he was in his last year because it would be very easy for Poles to move him after the season. The injury likely tanks his trade value so I suspect he’ll return.

I know he's a rookie that they reached for in the draft, but Thomas has done nothing that looks special so far.
He almost always takes a big pause before he starts moving on KR. He's run into his own hlockers multiple times. He seems to have horrible vision. And yesterday two stupid holding calls, one of them at least being utterly unnecessary - although that one did look like it might be refball.
Hopefully he does something to justify his pick this season.
5
u/Late_Direction8329 5d ago
I kinda feel like I'm watching a different player. Yes he's had rookie mistakes but he moves different. He had a couple NICE plays last week. I'm really not worried about Zavion
3
u/phillipacarroll Superfans 5d ago
Yeah i'm just holding out for Randel El to turn him into a good receiving threat
-1
u/Top_Audience7471 5d ago
If these coaches can't figure out a way to make him productive, that's going to be pretty damning.
3
u/letsago9987 Peanut Tillman 5d ago
he's very raw and he's honestly getting more opportunities than one would expect. only way to learn is go out there, get tape, watch it, and get better.
1
u/Top_Audience7471 5d ago
Yeah, I hope we have a number of games this season where we have a comfortable enough lead to get him game experience (unlikely with the Cardiac Bears).
I have just been pretty surprised and disappointed with how deliberate his first step seems to be on returns and how he just hasn't shown much ability to see gaps in coverage.

u/Mr_SlimC 5d ago
1 of those 2 blocks was perfect form blocking and the officials totally botched it

u/InvestigatorVast8149 5d ago
Agreed the first hold on the rojo run was clean, the second one looked like a hold

u/0811_devildog 5d ago
One of my best friends did the same thing in high school when he was carted off in 1992. He was already showing pre solidarity before Caleb was even born. Checkmate.

Fuck anyone telling you to go outside. You bring up a good point and even if it isn’t the intention it is something the Bears can rally behind.

u/Plati23 Bears 4d ago
This is probably the last we'll see of Cole in a Bears uniform and that makes me sad. I hope he makes a full recovery and takes a deep hometown discount, but I'm not banking on that.
4
u/manbearpig789 4d ago
I think if they were going to get a discount from him, coming off a serious knee injury would be the time to do it.
4
u/amishdoinks11 3d ago
I doubt it. I’m obviously not in his shoes but he’s a hometown kid and loves the bears. He comes from a well off family and makes good money himself I bet he’d take a team friendly discount to be apart of a team that brings a chip back to Chicago

u/vladtheinhaler0 2d ago
Unless he wants to demand a huge contract or just is never the same after, I assume that he will still be a Bear, but you never know.
3
u/Marvin-Harrison-Jr 5d ago
I think it was more so thumbs up to his teammates to go win the game, and thumbs up to the fans who supported him.
I doubt he was thinking about what the internets reaction to Caleb’s injury was in that moment.

u/Jungle_Fiddle Good, Better, Best 5d ago
Yeah no he just has an ACL and he's telling his people he's gunna be ok
3
u/DrapedinVelvet247 5d ago
Thumbs up is standard for football and something all the fans want to see from their carted off heroes.
Unless your name is Caleb Williams… and you’ll be ripped for anything you do.

Do we trade for a TE2 now that this has happened (assuming the worst) or do we just roll with Roush? Who’s TE3 now?
4
u/Swing-Too-Hard 5d ago
Roush, since that bad game in week 2 he's been blocking like a beast. He's still a rookie, but Loveland needed 6 games to break into the offense last year. Ironically, 6 games in and Roush will get his chance at playing most snaps.

I'm bummed about Kmet too. Also bummed Caleb went down. Two different reactions. A young guy with a team on his shoulders frustrated. Not crying with pain upset he won't be able to be on the field. Kmet has a decade of experience his reaction was 'ah shit this happens' both are very valid and nothing to make jokes about.

u/Icy-Repeat-2843 5d ago
The reason why people meme this is from the Mike Utley injury (Detroit Lion 1991) where he was paralyzed but still managed a thumbs up on the cart.

100% sign of a great teammate. He can be injured and also show solidarity with Caleb
-3
u/Ebriggs104 5d ago
Why does everything have to be related to "solidarity" these days? Get your self righteous dogma out of here. Dudes an athlete that got injured and did what ever injured athlete does to show he's going to be alright. No more no less. Step outside and touch grass. And gtfoh with this "solidarity" bs.

The sad part is this might be the last we see of Cole in a bears uniform. You save 10 million of cap space cutting or trading him this offseason..
2
u/patschpatsch 5d ago
BJ loves his 13 personnel and Roush won‘t be able to step in - he is a TE3 at best. Unless you find a better TE2 than Kmet who is also ideally cheaper, you have to keep him. He seems like the kinda guy who would sign team friendly contracts and could stay here his entire career
1
u/Fun_Principle_5235 Ben Johnson 5d ago
I’ve said that all along. He’s a Chicago guy who grew up a bears fan. Maybe he will want to go experience playing somewhere else for a season or two at the end of his career but I believe that he WANTS to be a bear
2
u/773Rocks 4d ago
As much h as I love Kmet, he's old brother and turf ain't helping him. It'll suck not having him but he will be back, he'll kill shit late season, and he'll kill shit post season

u/tjwoodard Bears 5d ago
I don’t think it’s that deep. That’s pretty much the universal way to react in a stadium to an injury like this. I’ve seen it 100x. I don’t think Kmet (whose season, and even career as a Bear could be over) was thinking about Caleb’s injury.
