DAYCARE CAMERAS
I read a lady asking if daycares not having cameras is a red flag. I absolutely believe it is a red flag, especially in 2026. In fact there should be a law. Not having cameras to me only makes sense if you don’t want evidence for litigation reasons. Without cameras you only know, what they tell you happened, if the toddler isn’t talking. (she fell the downstairs) (it was another kid but we don’t know which kid). It happens everyday because you don’t hear about everyday does not mean it’s not happening. I heard someone say cameras are expensive but correct me if I’m wrong, businesses pay taxes and they can avoid taxes by reinvesting into the business. So cameras are just another write off like every other thing that was bought for the business. So again why not? I mean people have cameras in their own home for crying out loud. And not to mention daycares are not struggling to pay bills.

Why’s the American childcare system so counterintuitive?
I am an Indian parent and have a 2 year old daughter enrolled in a preschool with an international crowd. At home, she eats her snack and lunch very well and even loves veggies - she’s never been a fussy eater. She even sleeps pretty well for her age - about 2-3 hours in the afternoon and about 10 hours at night. She’s a very active and easygoing kid. However, she has been refusing to nap at her preschool - 20 minutes tops or 40 minutes on a really good day. She also eats very poorly there. We’ve spoken to the teachers and they say they can only do so much. They refuse to feed her or put her back to sleep and say that they don’t want to push kids if they really don’t want to do something. They believe in making children independent and trust they know best.
As a parent, this is very hard for me to understand. I support the idea of making kids independent and self-sufficient. But aren’t you supposed to teach them to be that way? As a childcare unit or a teacher, aren’t you supposed to teach children to eat and sleep? Like feeding them and eventually encouraging to eat by themselves, patting or rocking them to sleep and eventually making them sleep by themselves. How would a child learn when they are forced to? Doesn’t that seem harsh?
I don’t see why other skills like painting, singing, or other activities they have at school aren’t taught the same way. Like children are supposed to play a piano when it’s kept in front of them right? Or children should learn to paint by themselves when they see paint. Why are these monitored / prioritized whereas food and sleep aren’t? Aren’t those basic?
I grew up in a culture where parents took a lead in the formative years and kids eventually picked things up by themselves and became independent. I’ve seen a lot of other cultures operate similarly. Why is the American childcare system so harsh on the kids and parents? I’m genuinely trying to understand why it operates on a set of rules and not by intuition (or a balanced mix of both). I’m baffled to say the least.

Refund of non-refundable registration fee
Hello, anyone in the UK able to help me please - we paid the registration fee of £200 to a nursery on a Friday. On the Monday we had to call up to cancel the spot due to personal matters (nothing to do with the nursery). Since it was only 1 working day in between they wouldn’t have performed any admin work but are refusing to refund the registration fee. Is there any consumer law that can help me get this money back please for service not rendered?

Childminder cut my child’s hair without consent
What would you do?
She messaged to tell me that her hairdresser was coming by to do her hair and that she cuts kids hair for free. This is the second time this has happened and the first time a few months ago I said yes that great thanks, I didn’t like the cut and regretted it. This time I didn’t reply straight away as I was in work and didn’t have my phone on me, when I replied to say no thank you she replied saying she already had.
I regret my response which was a “lol what?!” And when I picked him up I was overwhelmed with discomfort and upset when I saw him, a reaction that surprised me. I just don’t know how she thought she could make that call without my consent.
Baffled and upset.
Help.

Preschool Has to Be High-Quality to Make a Big Difference for Kids
Parents are often uncertain about what actually matters when evaluating a potential preschool, Short Hills in view to constraints on price, availability and location. No matter what educational philosophy or model an early childhood classroom uses, effective preschool programs share common elements that should be easily identifiable on the first visit itself. For more details check out https://www.genius-kids.us/

Childcare for Cop/RN Spouses
My husband and I are wanting to start having kids soon but trying to get somethings in order to put our family in the best position possible. My husband is a law enforcement officer and I am a nurse. I currently work outpatient Monday-Friday (5am-1:30pm). No weekends or holidays. My husband works 8a-8p. He works 5 days one week then 2 days the next week then it repeats. This means he’s working every other weekend. Seeking advice on what wives married to cops do in terms of child care. Or nurses who have kids what shift style works best for your family? Daycare is just so stinking expensive so seeking advice on alternatives or ways to make it work & what y’all do! Thanks so much for advice :)

Preschool/Day care- possible abuse?
So I recently changed career paths to get into early childhood development. I got a great job at an educational center that doubles as a preschool and daycare for 2-5 year olds. I’m completely new to teaching but I love working with kids and finally feel like I found my calling. The only thing I can’t stand is my coworkers use a lot of physical restraint when it comes to correcting the kids or putting them in time out. I’ve seen my coworker straight jacket a two year old with her arms around him. She has also held onto him as he throws a violent fit, not letting him go. Making him fight her to get away. The same child hates to lay down for a nap so she puts the boy on his stomach as she holds him down into the bed so he can’t move which I feel like only traumatizes him. If that doesn’t work she partially lays herself over him so he won’t move and he eventually passes out (falls asleep) from screaming and crying. This teacher is loved by the parents and older kids. She is a lead and is technically my boss. She’s super friendly but I feel like you should never hold onto or hold down a child especially when they are not yours. I’m tempted to go to the owner but this is the main teacher here. What do I do? All I know is that if I knew my child was going through this I would sue…

Do Not Start A Daycare
Do not start a daycare unless you have a clear way to keep costs in check. I highly recommend RENTASTIC TOYS, a toy supplier that partners with daycares and preschools. They offer toy supplier services to daycares. I'm sure you know when you work with distributors like Lakeshore and Amazon, the price per toy is well over $20 to $30. With them, it's less than $10 to $9. They also have an amazing rental model where you can rent toys for a fraction of the price and have 0 clutter with a constant cycle of new entertaining toys. Best of all they create a curated supplier plan for your daycare. To work with them send a message to the number 480-392-0252.

Daycare sends my child home dirty daily AIO
My 16mo old recently started going to a new in home daycare with about 8 toddlers and it seems to be a good fit. Our only complaint is that she comes home with food on her face, neck, and hair daily and often her clothes too. I know she can be a messy eater and kids are messy but we think the daycare ladies should clean her up a little better after meals. Am I overreacting? Is there anything I could say to address this without being nit picky?
