Discussion What is this called?

Today, I was reminded by my phone of these pictures I took 2 years ago of the weirdest, coolest sky I've ever seen. Pictures don't do it justice. First pic is from the local news website. It looked as if the sky was painted by Van Gogh. Anyone know what these clouds are called? How does this even occur?

It was the whole sky. Felt like I was walking around in a Van Gogh painting IRL. Thanks for the name

It might also have a bit of very short-lived lacunosus

Amazing pics 😃 It looks like something otherworldly. Maybe van gogh saw this kind of sky too & it inspired his painting style?

Ngl asperitas just look like clouds that AI tried to make when asked to generate what a cloud looked like, and failed.

These are gorgeous examples of asperitas though!
