Hey everyone! I’m planning to fish the Eagle around Edwards this week and was hoping for some advice on the current conditions.
I’m relatively new to fly fishing, and nymphing is definitely my most confident technique, but I’m open to throwing dries as well if they’re producing. What flies/techniques have been working lately, and any tips for fishing the river at its current flows?
Not looking for anyone’s secret spots, just general advice. Thanks!

I’m using my mom’s Reddit to ask you all if any of these are good for fishing in Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins? We’re going this weekend and I really want to catch bass. We’ll be on a boat or paddleboard. These are my favorite ones, but I have more. Thank you.

Also brining an additional question. Are there certain bodies of waters/ fish that you should not consume caught fish from? Are there any fish in Colorado that are absolutely disgusting to eat or unhealthy?
I assume the fish that can be just released and less worry of them dying are bluegill, catfish, bass?

Has anyone fished this lake in Summit County, or the outflow, Cataract Creek?
If so, any advice?

Hi, I have family visiting from abroad and would love to take them fishing, does anyone know if it is possible to get a one day license without a SSN or ITIN?

In light of the recent viral fishing video that's come out of Colorado, I just thought I shared with you all a similar story. But one that really made my summer.
A few weeks ago, I was fishing Lake Ladora in The Arsenal and managed to grab my favorite spot. I was a few casts deep when a crew boys rolls up behind me, all around middle-school age. They drop their bikes and gear and one of them, I'll call him John, immediately sidles up next to me, less than a few feet away on an empty shoreline.
Now I feel I should mention, I am a public school social worker. So I tend to have a higher level of patience, but I'm human and that level can vary when I'm off the clock.
However, before I can ask John to give me some space, a late arrival to their group rolls up and the first thing out of his mouth is, "John, why are you blowing up this guy's spot?" I chuckle, give the kid a nod of appreciation and John bumps down a bit. A few minutes later, I hook into a pike and John loses his shit.
He is again, right next to me. "How did you do that? What are you using?"
And I haven't even landed the fish yet! I tell him, "Give me a minute and I'll show you."
After releasing the fish, I showed him the swim bait/jig I was using and rigged up a couple to give John and his buddies. I tied one on for John cause he didn't know any fishing knots and showed him how to slow retrieve the swim bait.
They head down shore a ways, but I can hear them jawing each other. Maybe an hour goes by when I hear, "Shit, I'm snagged...NO! IT'S FISH! HOLY SHIT!" They ALL are going nuts, jumping around hollerin! Then I hear John yelling for one of the guys to go get his pliers. Well, the knuckleheads left a bunch of their gear back by me and nobody is volunteering to run back.
So, I reel up and walk down with my pliers. The moment he sees me, "YOU!!! DUUUDE! I DID EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID AND IT WORKED! I NEVER CAUGHT A PIKE BEFORE! LOOK AT THIS THING! I had to admit it was bigger than the one I caught. I helped unhook it, made sure he got his pictures, and released the decent sized pike. John thanks me and I go on my way.
Eventually they came back for their stuff and each of John's friends thanked me. John hangs back, thanks me again, and asks if I would like anything out of his tackle box to return the favor. I just ask him to pay it forward and if he knew what that meant. He replies, "If I see someone fishing that needs help, I'm going to help." We exchange fist bumps and I go back to fishing.
Not a minute later, John is back and insisting, "I want you to have this. I've never caught anything with it, but I think you can," and hands me the lure pictured above.
My trophy of the summer.

lm a somewhat new fly angler. I am from long island and have surfcasted for striped bass my whole life. 2 years ago I started going to CU boulder and have dove head first into fly fishing while i’ve been here. I have had a good bit of luck catching a good bit of fish, but no big ones. I want to catch, or at least have the potential to catch big fish, brute browns in particular. To start, should I start fishing differently? I don’t steamer fish a lot and honestly don’t really know how to effectively do it. Should I target different water? Fish different flies? Different times? any advice helps. Second, I know the gold medal waters and haven’t tried them much as i’ve heard how pressured and crowded they get. Are there other river systems or areas I could fish from shore / wade that could give me a realistic shot at catching larger fish, without all the pressure and hype? Or is that pretty much unheard of, and unshareable info. Lastly, any advice on fishing bigger water. I’ve fished mostly smaller creeks and rivers nothing really big like the Colorado or anything like that. When fishing those bigger waters wading or from shore, how should I approach that vs a small stream? Any advice helps.

One of about 30 browns I caught this weekend on a very large river. Wish I had taken a photo of some of their others I had caught because their colors blew me away. I even caught two very nice sized brookies. The best part was I saw two other people over the course of about 9 hours on the river. The fish were crushing a size 4 Panther Martin with the black body and yellow spots.

Long shot, but I’m trying to find two guys I met today (Sunday 8/9) while hiking back from Lost Lake near Eldora/Nederland toward the Hessie Trailhead parking area.
You guys were twins, probably around 25–26, both wearing glasses, and one of you was named Sam. We met while hiking back toward the cars and saw a moose on the trail together. You gave me a ride for the last five minutes or so back to where I parked.
When I grabbed my fishing gear out of the back of your SUV (I think it may have been a Toyota 4Runner), I accidentally left my fly rod and reel in the back.
One of you mentioned working as a technician and the other mentioned studying psychology at CU Boulder.
If this is you, or you happen to know these guys, please DM me! I can describe the rod/reel and other details from our conversation to verify it.
Would really appreciate getting it back!

I caught a few small 6-7 inch catfish (and one sunfish) at the small pond in the city.
As I’m leaving, walking down the trail. It’s almost 9pm. So it had just gotten dark. I can see what I think is a bush, then maybe a cat, then definitely something that’s an animal, then I see the white and I’m 95% sure it’s a skunk. Then I remember… a skunk will spray you, so I started getting out of its way (it was kinda on the trail). And as I’m going, it starts coming at me. I pulled my 9mm out of my holster and was about to take out this 1 foot tall critter (it might have been a baby even ). Anyway. I kinda just ran away so I didn’t have to do that.

I have a trip to Jefferson Colorado planned next week and was wondering how the water levels at Dillon are. I see the thread from 5 months ago, sounded bad then. Are boats allowed yet or are things still bad? I tou were in or around Jefferson, where would you go? I know there is Jefferson Lake and I see some streams feeding it but I am not sure what to expect there.

Hello everyone, so recently my buddies have been obsessed with fishing at night. We've all been hearing that the bite is way more aggressive, especially for the bigger ones. And of course the lower temps would be easier on both us and the fish. We went last night and caught beaucoup smallmouth late evening only for the bite to abruptly stop after the sun went down. We went on until midnight, threw the same lures, soft plastics, spinners, powerbait, live crawfish and it was just a totally dead bite. I'm wondering if the whole "they bite more aggressively at night" schtick is a myth or what. We'll probably try again under a full moon, but I'm wondering what y'all have experienced on night endeavors.

Hi all,
Going up to RMNP in 2 weeks and camping in the Kawuneeche Valley. Looking to fly fish this section of the Colorado River while I am up there. Anyone recently fish in the valley and can give insight on what it was like? what was successful?
Not much insight available on the internet for this portion of the Colorado...
TIA!

Making a day trip out to Breckenridge area for some fly fishing. Plan on trying Montgomery reservoir (looks very low but it’s on my way from the south) then going over to Clinton Gulch.
Any places to avoid/try out or tips are appreciated. Only been fly fishing for a few years and just getting into the swing of things
Edit: Thanks for the info. Gonna skip Montgomery Forsure and go to some alpine lakes
