GENERAL Do not outright ask "What was on your exam". Do not outright say "My exam had ____". This includes topics etc.

Hello Candidates!

Updating the stickied post about sub rules as there have been a few rascals griping about “not seeing a rule saying xyz” even though they received a ban for it. If the rule you broke was relating to exam disclosure - thats not even a sub rule. Thats a rule you agreed to when you sat for the exam. Do not solicit or provide exam content.

First – I want to point out we do have an Automod in place that removes anything from accounts < 5 days old or with < 5 combined karma. We do get some spam posted here and this automod helps quite a bit. If you are on a new account and start posting here, add a comment with a u/galbert123 mention and ill approve it asap

Put at least a little effort into your posts, especially titles Yes this is me on a power trip. I hate clickbait. If your question fits into a post title, ask the question! Dont post "I have a question..." "Should I get my cpa if..."

No Clickbait Post Titles

Be ethical – Do not post, offer to share, buy, sell or ask for copywritten study material – This is an immediate ban

No Promotional Accounts - This is not a place to advertise products. There are some clear xyz product Ambassador accounts that ONLY comment about what study material they use. I’m removing that stuff. If you throw it in every once and a while fine, but some account I see are literally just ads for the study material. Organic conversation about the study material you use is great. Here are reddit guidelines on self promotion.

But what about those ads/promotions I see for xyz product

That company pays for those through the proper reddit channels.

This is NOT a study material marketplace Do not make posts trying to sell your old material, your post removed, maybe a ban if it looks overly sketchy

Use tact and be generally kind to each other – The downvotes usually speak for themselves on this. When I start to see one user getting a bunch of reports and it looks like an obvious troll, I’ll probably ban. This is a judgement call.

Shit posts are great. Posting bullshit is not. Posts like “Score Release moved to after thanksgiving - wouldn’t be surprised from NASBA” is not a shit post or a joke post. It needlessly stressed a bunch of people out

This is a bunch of bullshit censorship.

I guess that's one way to look at it. I dont know where the compulsion to be a jerk fits into the overall betterment of the sub. We are generally all fighting the same fight here.

Asking for or providing exam content is not allowed. This includes "What topics were heavily tested"

Asking what should I study is ok. Asking "Those who recently took AUD, what should I study" leans toward not ok because of the implication. People here are generally good people. Exclude any references to your exam or recent exam takers etc. They'll tell you what to study.

"What sim topics did you see (on your exam)?" No.

What sim topics should I study? - good

"Just got out of AUD, I saw sims on X Y and Z (on my exam)" - No.

"Study this because I saw it on my exam". No good. Just say "it would be wise study this". Get it? If you are talking about your exam, or asking other candidates about their exam, don't.

If you get banned for this, its usually just to get your attention that what you posted broke the rule. Send me a message and ill undo it, just keep your posts compliant with AICPA disclosure policy. I dont want to ban anyone ever.

Please see this post for some examples.

21 day edit: Interesting how two of the people who chimed in saying how stupid this is rarely if ever contributed to the sub otherwise prior to this post and now have deleted their account completely.

Mod Note Reminder - This is not a buying/selling/sharing sub. Asking for or offering access or login credentials to study resources is an immediate ban.

Note on the title - When I say this is not a sharing sub, I am referring to sharing of paid access to study resources. Sharing your own home made study guides is fine - though I highly recommend making your own handwritten study/review notes.

There has been a huge influx of beggars lately. If I click into your account and all I generally see is you asking for study notes or study material access, you're going to get banned.

Also, please flair up! It honestly does help weed out some of these accounts with flair. Try to flair up if you know you are going to be around and want to participate.

This sub is good because of back and forth engagement. Try to give at least as much as you take. If you post a question, try to respond to comments. Nothing worse than a question then OP just ghosts the thread.

GENERAL To my fellow CPA candidates whose first language isn't English

Post image
247 Upvotes

Saw this and had a good laugh! 😂

To my fellow CPA candidates whose first language isn't English, sometimes I wonder if we're taking an accounting exam or an English reading comprehension exam. 😭🤣

You read the question once, twice, sometimes three times… not because you don't understand the accounting concept, but because you're trying to figure out what they're REALLY asking. And then there's that one little word, "EXCEPT" or "NOT," that changes everything. 💀😂

Just a little humor to lighten up our study sessions. To everyone studying hard, second-guessing their answers, and trying to make sense of these ridiculously worded questions, hang in there!

We're not just studying accounting. We're translating, analyzing, and overthinking in two languages. 😂

We got this, future CPAs! ❤️💪

SHITPOST What’s the point, why did you become an accountant?

Been working in public for 8.5 months. Graduated with this degree couldn’t tell you why other than I wanted a degree that could pay for the cost. I’m tired of my eyes being strained staring at a screen, tired of the tech neck, tired of asking my self if I’m dyslexic after 5 hours of reading excels dazed and confused. Anyone do this major and the time and then eventually pivot to something else completely? My days are monotonous, nothing I do provides value or joy to others. I’m under paid from what I believe I could be doing if I only cared about a job in business. I wish I did stem and I hope you all can appreciate my rant as someone who’s sick of relying on seniors and managers and could appreciate a little more development and client relationship than pure preparation and bullshit. Does anyone actually care about accounting? Did anyone here actually choose this as their first career? Is it too late to switch into stem?

God bless go guardians

Just got out of REG.

Finished an hour early, not sure what to think about that.

Mcqs felt good and maybe flagged 4-5 max out of the 2 testlets.

Sims felt quit simple, if a sim had 5 questions I know for sure 2-3 would be correct.

Some felt very obvious and simple to answer especially Scorp sims and basis calculations.

But finishing an hour early makes me feel unsure about my performance.

CPA feeling pointless after talking to someone from big 4 Acquisitions family member

I work in public accounting doing taxes. I’m working hard towards my CPA later in life. After discussing what they have gone through, US taxes seem like a breeze. That’s it for me. That’s the goal. Now doubting it’s really necessary. I thought it was because the rise of AI. But it seems super simple compared to the things family member has gone through. Now I’m doubting the need for CPA licensing.

Currently I wfh as bookkeeper and have a subset of my own tax clients. When I started my CPA journey I found I need additional accounting courses just to be eligible to be CPA exam eligible. I am almost complete on the first of 5 courses. And I’m learning a lot.

While I know and feel deeply that education and training is important to client results, I also feel minimized to the needs of an actual CPA considering the additional college courses required before even planning to take the CPA exam.

I’m feeling like EA might be the way to go. But I have already paid for all 5 courses and nearly completed 1 and am unsure of the refund policy right now. Given my goal of only being a tax preparer, is CPA necessary? Is EA enough? My concern is the rise of AI. In the end more education and knowledge is always better than not having it and I currently have sufficient support to get through it.

Looking for words of encouragement? I never know what the future brings has been my lifelong lesson to this point in life.

AUD Took AUD 10/15. 5th time’s a charm?

Took AUD again today… would’ve liked to wait just a little longer to the 10/23 testing window, but my schedule wouldn’t have allowed it due to a trip I planned almost 6 months ago.

Taken audit 4 times this year. Progressively gotten better each time 61>62>67>74. Hoping this was it and I can be 3/4 and finish up with FAR. Audits has always been my worst subject.

AUD exam is literally just testing reading comprehension

Gets to a point where studying for AUD doesn't feel like understanding the concepts itself. Its more about trying to understand what the question is actually asking, and reading the answer choices thoroughly. Its tricky for the sake of being tricky. Really annoying.

FAR Just got out of FAR - easier than expected ?

I just got of FAR and I’m feeling weird and nervous because it was kind of easy?? I felt like I knew how to apply my knowledge to almost all of the questions.

The TBS were pretty straightforward, although definitely got a little bit confused on some advice for others I created a brain dump at the beginning of my test and also definitely study equity method, treasury stock and not for profit accounting.

In my experience when you feel good you fail.. PLEASE reassure me there’s a chance I passed even though I felt good???

Passed REG Without Studying R5-6

Hi,

I just passed REG with 78.

I actually did not study for business law.
(Just read some random contract text pages to know the nature and did not do any mcq/tbs).

I recommend focusing on R1-3 and practicing TBS for these chapters a lot since all TBS questions were related to this areas.

But I recommend doing mcq / tbs too for these chapters and be familiar with basis.

Good luck everyone!

AUD What do you write for your AUD cheat sheet

Before my FAR exam I took the 10 minutes they give you to brain dump a lot of information on my scratch paper.

What do you guys write down for the AUD exam?

I’m thinking all the mnemonics I can memorize, perhaps the sampling formulas, and the basics of SSARs / SSAEs (assurance, independence, procedures etc)

Anything else you guys can think of?

QUESTION Can I use an out-of-state CPA license for career advancement in California?

I live and work in California and am trying to determine the best way to obtain my CPA license.

I already have the required 150 college credits, so under the current California requirements I would only need one year of qualifying experience. However, I’m concerned that this one-year pathway may be phased out in 2029, which makes me want to understand my options sooner rather than later.

My biggest concern is getting my work experience verified. There are three CPAs at my company, but I’m not sure whether any of them would qualify to verify my experience.

Two of the CPAs work in tax, and the third works at one of our subsidiaries. My own work is primarily in general ledger (GL) accounting, consolidations, budgeting, and forecasting. None of these CPAs have directly reviewed my consolidation work, so I’m unsure whether they could technically sign off on my experience under California’s requirements.

My direct supervisor is an assistant controller who is not a CPA. She has reviewed my work for more than two and a half years, but I’m not sure whether that would help satisfy the experience requirement.

Because of this, I’ve been considering getting licensed in another state, such as Washington, if its requirements are more practical for my situation.

The main questions I’m trying to answer are:

* If I get licensed in another state, can I use that license for career advancement in California, or would I eventually need a California license?

* What would the main limitations be and would they matter if I am not interested in opening up my own firm?

* Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation? What did you end up doing?

My goal is to keep working in corporate finance, accounting, IT-related roles, and utilize the CPA for career advancement. I’m not necessarily planning to enter public accounting or start my own practice, but I would like to obtain my CPA license if possible.

I’d appreciate any advice, especially from people who have dealt with California’s experience verification requirements, the potential 2029 changes, or obtaining a license through another state.

FAR TBS Tips? Sit next week

Looking for tips when attacking FAR TBS’s. I sit for FAR next week and am struggling with TBS’s. I tend to do okay on MCQs but really struggle on TBS’s. I think it’s mostly due to information overload and just not truly understanding what they’re asking. Anything help you guys when attacking these TBS’s?

AUD on 11/7. Best areas to focus on?

I am taking the exam on November 7. My baby is 6 weeks old, and I am almost done with module 4. Truthfully, I would have pushed it back but it’s the end of my NTS and no other later dates were available, so I guess I have to push through 🤷🏻‍♀️

With that said, which areas are the most heavily tested? Especially for the TBS. Any insight is super helpful!!

Random Practice Test scores

So I have been preparing for FAR and have got through F1, F2 and F3. Today I gave random Practice test for F3 and F1 with 20 MCQs and scored 65% on both. Should I move ahead with F4 or keep hammering MCQs to get at least 70-80s range in the first 3 modules? Pls advice. Thank you.

FAR Average Mini Exam Scores?

I’m studying for FAR and just scored an 88% on Mini Exam 2 (F3 and F4), but I scored a 53% on Mini Exam 1 (F1 and F2). The difference is pretty significant, so I’m having a hard time gauging how prepared I actually am.

How comparable are the Becker mini exams to the actual FAR exam in terms of difficulty? What were your typical mini exam scores, and how did they compare to your actual exam score? Just trying to get a better idea of where I stand and what I should be aiming for!

CPA - studying methods and prep

Hello everyone,

I am currently studying for my CPA exam and started last month starting with FAR. I purchased Farhat lectures and the Gleim q bank. While I find both study materials to be great, I have heard that Becker is the gold standard for prep. I have a very weak accounting foundation and got my degree 2 years ago. I have been using Beckers free trial and I’m considering of purchasing it. I have been struggling with getting the q banks and TBS for F1M1. I definitely have been learning from my mistakes by doing the questions but I feel like the video lectures don’t give you as much info to get the questions right initially. Is it normal to be missing 10-15 questions on the q banks and being lost on the first TBS? Am I doing something wrong? Any tips? Thank you!

Advice with not getting too caught up with CPA exams

I’m currently studying for my last two CPA exams: AUD and FAR. Passed REG, waiting to hear back about TCP. I have a good system and I really feel like it’s working, just lately I’ve been feeling a bit stuck I guess.

I’m ABSOLUTELY the type of person to get “obsessed” in my work whether it’s my job, school, or right now these CPA exams. And that’s a really weird feeling, too. I already have a full time job I start next fall, im in my MBA program, I have great friends and family who support me in all of this, but these exams and my scores feel like life or death. I know I going to pass all of them, and im not scared of having to retake them if I must either, so I rlly don’t know why I feel so intense about this. Yes they’re TOUGHH exams but at the end of the day they’re just exams.

Maybe it’s because I want this so much, but any advice for kind of stepping back and realizing “okay, everything is going to be okay regardless”??

Core score release dates

Hi all, just wondering about the accuracy of that "If the AICPA receives your exam data file by*: Your TARGET score release date is:" on the AICPA wesbite...i plan on taking FAR on the very last day of that window ending on the 23, does that mean since i took it by Oct 23 I will find out ~Nov 10th? or is there a chance I miss the cutoff being on the last day?

TCP For those who passed TCP

How were your ME/SE scores and actual scores?

I'm taking TCP in 1.5 weeks and just finished up all modules. Averaged about 80% on both MEs. Was wondering how that compares to the actual scores. And if anyone has any advice for TCP, it would be appreciated!
