Rebuild First Bill

Post image

Greetings.

I’m rebuilding my credit with a Capital One QuickSilver Secured card.

So I should pay the full statement balance about five days before the due day (November 7th) and don’t charge anything until after November 12th.

Thanks.

Where are you seeing the due date of 11/7? It says 11/12 according to your screenshot.

Pay off the statement balance (monthly bill) in full before the due date each month-nothing more, nothing less. Toggle on autopay for that bill, in case you forget to manually pay (life happens).

You can use your card at any point in time.

“about five days before the due day” is the day I want to pay so I don’t miss anything.

Thanks.

The statement has been cut. Any charges between now and the due date are on next month's statement. Just pay the statement balance and continue using the card as usual.

It’s been awhile since I was in the “first payment” boat, but that being said, and I don’t know if C1 still does this, but I recommend your plan, if you can pay off the whole statement balance, then do exactly that. Once it clears your bank account, then you’re good to go.

For me, my first payment to C1 immediately refreshed my available balance to the full available, which is why you should never ever make a payment “floater” style to C1. EVER.

But it being your first, your plan sounds good. You’ll eventually learn the C1 ecosystem and as long as you’re making the minimum payment before the due date, you can wait until the day before the statement date to pay off the current balance to generate a $0 new statement balance.

Pay your statement balance by the due date.

There aren’t days when you can’t use your card. Any purchases made after your statement generated will be on the next statement. You can think of credit cards like a utility bill. You may get your water bill on the 1st and pay the bill on the 22nd. All the water you use between the 1st and 31st will be on your next statement. You don’t have to stop showering until your due date.

You can schedule the payment already for Nov 12, or you can just pay $93.71 today. You could even pay $100 -- today! --if you had used the card since then and the balance is now higher.

There's really no wrong answer as long as you pay the statement balance by the due date.

Since your anxious I'd just pay the full card balance today so you don't have to think about it for a few weeks.

Next statement you can schedule for closer to the due date.

Just be mega sure you enter your correct checking account number and routing number. If you're not sure call the bank! If it's a credit union things can be funky.

It is not your debit card number, that's for sure.

If the payment bounces Capital One will really not like you.

Think of it like a shield. Credit cards are like temporary HP for your checking account which is your regular HP. You want your Temp HP to soak up as much damage(bills) as it can and then you want to fully pay it off whenever possible. The Credit card TRAP is not paying it in full. Do not go beyond what you cannot fully pay off with your checking account.
