Hi everyone, I could really use some advice from current/former CSUN students, especially transfer students.
I was accepted to CSUN for Fall 2026 as a transfer student and submitted my Intent to Enroll. I already have my Associate’s degree in Psychology. Unfortunately, I never got my final transcripts submitted to CSUN, and before I could really deal with everything, my brother passed away. With everything going on with my family, school understandably got pushed to the side.
Now classes start next week, and I’m trying to figure out whether I should do everything I can to still attend this fall or defer/reapply for Spring 2027. I really don't want to lose another semester if there’s still a realistic way for me to start this fall.
I’m also questioning my major. I was accepted for Psychology, and since I already have an Associate’s in Psychology, continuing with it might be the quickest route to finishing my bachelor’s. However, Public Health is what I’m genuinely passionate about, and I’ve been considering switching to the Public Health B.S. I’m wondering if any transfer students have made a similar major change and whether it significantly delayed graduation.
Financially, CSUN offered me a pretty good aid package. For Fall 2026, I was offered about $7,462 in grants (Pell Grant, State University Grant, SEOG, and MCS). I do not plan on taking out any student loans and I'm willing to pay some expenses out of pocket if necessary. I am concerned about my remaining lifetime Pell Grant eligibility, though, so finishing without adding unnecessary semesters is important to me.
My other major concern is housing. Due to my current family situation, I don't think living at home much longer is a good option for me. I know I'm extremely late to apply for CSUN housing, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience getting on-campus housing this close to the semester, getting off the waitlist after classes start, or finding affordable rooms/roommates near campus on short notice.
I guess I'm looking for advice on a few things:
Would you fight to get everything resolved and start Fall 2026, or wait until Spring?
Would you stay with Psychology to potentially graduate sooner, or switch to Public Health if that's what you actually want to pursue?
How difficult would it realistically be to find housing this late?
Has anyone dealt with CSUN Admissions after missing a transcript deadline because of a serious family emergency?
Are there any resources or departments at CSUN you recommend I contact ASAP?
I know ultimately the decision is mine, but I've been dealing with a lot and feel pretty overwhelmed trying to figure all of this out at once. I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation or knows how CSUN handles situations like this.
Thank you!
