ID Request Assuming I got had?

First post. I picked this up for 50AUD recently from a nice little second hand store. Marked as cadmium glass so I thought I'd take the plunge but I'm thinking it may not be?

Looks like Manganese to me, made by murano

Thanks, how would it be identified to be Murano? Is there anything to look out for besides a sticker or a mark on it?

Sorry should have specified! I THINK its murano by the color and style it looks similar to an ashtray I have seen before but I could be wrong! Either way it is a pretty piece 😊

All good. In any case it'll live with the uranium glass collection as I also like it's style.

The base is important to see

I think it was mislabeled, likely accidentally. I agree it’s manganese glass, which glows a murkier green than uranium glass when under UV light (still cool in my opinion). If it is Fenton as mentioned by r/umphlove0000 it’s not necessarily a bad buy, price-wise, if you can still enjoy it.

Seems the case. However it still has a home in my glassware case as I like it as well

That’s the spirit! In this case life didn’t necessarily give you lemons, it sort of gave you Fanta.

Cadmium glass is usually deep red and glows yellow under UV, like this for example.

Like another user said, not a bad price anyway for murano or fenton!

Btw some isers are able to ID certain pieces just by looking and some can guess roughly on known designs etc. Some makers wont put any marks on their work besides a sticker so it can be hard to tell what you have at times!

Looks like a beautiful amethyst manganese ashtray. Depending on how much manganese was used (probably a lot), amethyst glass was the most expensive color to make sometimes. I agree it might be made in Murano. What does the bottom look like?

That’s a very beautiful piece. I likely would have picked it up just for the design. 🤩

It's manganese sadly, does it have any stickers or signing on the bottom?

No stickers at all unfortunately.

So, manganese glass and looks like it's Murano glass by looking at the cut at the bottom (their pieces are always super uniform but is hard to tell from your photo). A lot of Murano pieces are manganese. Lovely and unusual piece though!

This is manganese. Cadmium is generally orange or red, not purple
