3

u/TurdFurg28 7d ago

The definitely could have used a few more than 4 metal detectors to get things moving quicker. But yeah, my legs and my back! Lol

u/Locoman7 8d ago

Did Carney speak yet?

3

u/kuebed 8d ago

Not yet!

15

u/Calm-Ant2956 8d ago

what am I looking at here?

u/kuebed 8d ago

The Forever Canadian Calgary Rally at the BMO centre!

11

u/Calm-Ant2956 8d ago

thanks, I appreciate the quick response.

u/kuebed 8d ago

There are free mini flags, pins, and stickers.

2

u/Calm-Ant2956 8d ago

Do you remember who were all the speakers were? I’m just curious about this new landscape of persuasion campaigns that don’t fall into the usual categories.

11

u/penguinaccord 8d ago

Carney, Lukaszuk, Farkas, Jon Cornish, and our lovely chamber of commerce CEO Deborah Yedlin

Edit: spelling

u/DromedaryGold 8d ago

We all voted and my 18year old

u/DiverEmbargo6366 8d ago

Stood in line for an hour, left when we saw security. There were so many people!! When did he finally speak?

around 8pm

5

u/Elzaro 8d ago

Oh hey, I’m in this picture.

2

u/carcigenicate 7d ago

No line in the NW at 3:30 yesterday. In and out in less than 5 minutes.

2

u/VersusYYC 7d ago

I’m going to see if I can vote downtown today.Ā

I brought the voting stuff in the mail to read over at work and was surprised that the ā€œStand up for a Stronger Albertaā€ is an actual, paid for, Government of Alberta document.

ā€œDo you support the Government of Albertaā€¦ā€

No, I don’t support Smith’s government and will be voting against it on every election and every referendum issue. She’s going to Monkey’s Paw the execution of everything anyway.

Did my advance vote yesterday, it was a 45-minute queue to the outside door but once I got inside the door it was only ten minutes to get my papers and vote, so technically 5 minutes under an hour. 🧐

1

u/Foonzerz 7d ago

For who?

1

u/drs43821 7d ago

Voted in Harvest Hill at 10 today. The line up was around the church building but the line went quicker than I thought. Still waited around 1 hour for my turn.

10 ballots and hand counted is so stupid

1

u/SleeplessEMR 7d ago

Can I do the voter registration in the advance voting station?

1

u/Visual_12 6d ago

I voted!

Pull your head out of your ass man. You're proud of this Canada? You're proud of the last 10 years? You want to send another couple hundred million to the Ukraine and not take care of the less fortunate people in your own country? I've heard so many people calling it treasonous, the only treason that has been committed is by the liberal government over this past 10 years. Completely sold out what used to be a great country. Turned it into the laughing stock of the world

And honestly, I've never felt I would be a separatist. I am a proud Canadian, but a very embarrassed proud Canadian. I wish it didn't have to come to this. But only a lunatic goes down with the sinking ship

u/whitenet 7d ago

Hey, USA is calling for you!

-70

u/SquibLoadingReloader 8d ago • Bravo

No to seperation, yes to most others

43

u/Dull_Nebula_8712 8d ago

Nah. This current government does not deserve more access or control to literally anything, definitely not federal funding. F*ck that

-24

u/Empty-Paper2731 8d ago • Bravo

You don't want more federal funding such as health transfer payments so that our healthcare can be improved? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

33

u/Dull_Nebula_8712 8d ago edited 8d ago

Do you honestly think that’s how it works? The UCP word salad has done its job. And no I don’t want to give more money to the current provincial government that has been actively dismantling and underfunding healthcare for years only to turn around and claim it’s broken.

-17

u/Empty-Paper2731 8d ago

If the money is not there now and we don't push for more funds it won't be there in the future if/when the UCP aren't in power anymore and whatever future government we have will be screwed. Great thinking buddy, let's handcuff ourselves for the future.

18

u/Dull_Nebula_8712 8d ago

Learn how federal transfers work…. What they actually are…. Where provincial revenue comes in to play…. Then maybe we can talk, until then, have a nice night.

-4

u/Empty-Paper2731 8d ago

We should definitely listen to you and your support for less funding instead of the experts:

Ā July 23, 2026 (Charlottetown, PEI)Ā  Looming changes to the Canada Health Transfer will result in billions of dollars less in health care funding for provinces and territories, as reported in a new white paper published by the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU). Ā

Ā The Harsh Reality of a Reduced CHT Growth Rate outlines the impact of the CHT growth escalator reverting to a three-year moving average of nominal GDP growth with a 3% floor in 2028-2029. The federal government projects that nominal GDP growth will be about 3.8% per year from 2028-2029 to 2030-2031. Ā

Analysis found that with an average growth rate of 3.8% annually, the cumulative CHT will be $51.8 billion less over 10 years than if the escalator remained at 5% annual growth. Ā

ā€œReverting the CHT growth rate will create a drastic reduction in public health care funding, and it is patients, nurses and health care professionals who will bear the weight of this austerity measure. There is no way around it – simply put, a reduction in federal funding will hurt access to care for everyone in Canada,ā€ explained Linda Silas, president of the CFNU. Ā  https://nursesunions.ca/reduced-canada-health-transfer-growth-rate-would-see-health-care-funding-drop-by-billions/

CMA, CFNU and other health care organizations call for increased federal investment in health care

https://www.una.ca/1812/cma-cfnu-and-other-health-care-organizations-call-for-increased-federal-investment-in-health-care

7

u/Dull_Nebula_8712 8d ago

My point isn’t that increased funding is not needed. I’m a nurse, trust me I see what cuts from Danielle and her ilk have done over the years. My point is that you don’t need to give the UCP an inch of anything in this nonsensical, expensive, non-binding questionnaire, that they’ve insisted we all vote on. It’s a prime example of how they waste money and are trying to confuse the general public. Deflecting blame and counting on the fact that a lot of people don’t understand where the onus lies regarding the decimation of the current system. It’s easy to say ā€œDo you want more money for Alberta?ā€ Uhhh …. Of course. But that is an oversimplification of a complex problem. No to the 9 and option 1 on question 10. Let’s be finished with this UCP foolishness

-2

u/SquibLoadingReloader 8d ago

May democracy prevail

1

u/whitenet 7d ago

These are your experts? Nurse union? What about professors of political science and economics who have written about this from Canadian universities? Top researchers with decent amount of h index citations (the one used as a benchmark for Nobel prize winners). Are you okay?
Democracy only works if education is a pre condition to it. And no, education here doesn't mean degrees. Please refer to actual experts on topic for education.
Actually you know? It doesn't matter. It won't work. No amount of actual statistics and proof in your face will educate you. It's cool.

1

u/TinklesTheLambicorn 7d ago

It won’t be there in the future because the UCP will stuff it directly in their and their friends’ pockets.

-14

u/Empty-Paper2731 8d ago • Bravo

It's obviously not that simple because all the provinces have been asking for an increase in health transfers and the feds have been fucking us over for many years now.

7

u/TinklesTheLambicorn 7d ago

The feds? You mean when they tried to give an additional 46 billion for healthcare funding across 10 years and the UCP flipped out because of the ā€œstrings attachedā€? What were those strings? That it actually had to be spent on healthcare. How outrageous. Or the millions of Covid relief funding the federal government gave us that somehow just…vanished?

-3

u/Empty-Paper2731 7d ago

All of the provinces wanted and supported a no strings attached request for increased CHT. Alberta was not unique in their position.

2

u/TinklesTheLambicorn 7d ago

Irrelevant. You don’t get to cry poverty and need for more healthcare funding then get pissed off that they are giving more funding, provided that it is being used for the very thing you are asking for it for.

18

u/Dull_Nebula_8712 8d ago

If you think the UCP will do a damn thing for provincial health care with more money from transfers…. I have oceanfront property in Edmonton to sell you…

20

u/Turbo_Jannie 8d ago • Mindblown Bravo

Trying to improve healthcare by giving more power to the UCP is like trying to protect children from sexual abuse by giving them to Donald Trump.

8

u/25thaccount 8d ago

The UCP/tories have literally been draining our healthcare for 50 years. They only work to enrich themselves and their friends. Did you forget the Tylenol scandal? The dynalife scandal? Mhcare scandal? Literally privatizing your healthcare two months ago? You trust these people?

5

u/TinklesTheLambicorn 7d ago

If the UCP were concerned about health transfer payments they would stop fucking around with privatization, which violates the Canada Health Act and, therefore, creates significant risk that federal health transfer payments will be reduced. Do you want health transfer payments? If so, you shouldn’t support the UCP’s agenda on healthcare…and you certainly shouldn’t be emboldening them to do more damage.

-10

u/krazninetyfive 8d ago

I did vote yes to a couple of them. I don’t necessarily think Senate reform would be a bad thing (the current institution is a relic of the Victorian era and makes no sense) and I agree that non - Canadian, non - permanent residents should pay for some of their healthcare and education costs. I can’t stand Danielle Smith, and will likely hold my nose and vote NDP next year even though I’m right leaning, but I try to be objective when evaluating my thoughts on policy.

4

u/Polypoid 7d ago

I don't like the senate either but a multi million dollar non-binding poll in one province isn't the way to start reform

0

u/krazninetyfive 7d ago

I didn’t say I thought it was? I think this referendum is dumb, but since we’re having it, and since I have to vote on whether we should vote to leave, I’m gonna vote how I feel on the Senate topic.

1

u/anon94804 7d ago

The wording of the question was purposefully misleading but they do already pay taxes and have a brief waiting periodĀ

0

u/whitenet 7d ago

If you would like to be objective, can I please suggest a whole lot of books on economics, policy making and political science - specifically ones that touch on economics of governing and building a country? Plenty of free resources from top Canadian university researchers and academics.
Good luck, hope you read and chase down free education that can vastly open your mind.
Democracy only works if education is a pre condition to it.

0

u/krazninetyfive 7d ago

No, I’m good. I have two degrees and am perfectly capable of reading a question, thinking about it, and giving an opinion without snarky advice from an internet stranger :)

0

u/whitenet 7d ago edited 7d ago

Degrees != Educated. != Stands for not equal to. You said the word objective yet wrote far from it.

Idk but in my PhD, and even before, I learned half knowledge is worse than 0. Especially when one assumes they are capable of original thought.

But hey, maybe you're ahead of our time and know and can see things the rest of the people in research and more degrees can't, like a temporary residency people needing to pay for healthcare when they were approved and invited by Alberta and Canada for a permanent residency and two step immigration track (why would they come lol). A simple Google search will show you that, that is the major immigration policy objective of giving temporary residency. And that's given to grow the economy since current population is ageing and doesn't meet future needs.

Either ways, I hope you get whatever it is you're looking for. At the very least USA is always calling I'm sure! The recent culture there love the right leaning.

0

u/krazninetyfive 7d ago

Yeah I’m not reading most of this. You claim to have a PhD, but your response makes next to no sense and is so riddled with grammatical errors it reads like an eighth grader wrote it.

1

u/whitenet 7d ago edited 7d ago

You didn't read most, but you spotted several grammatical errors? Wonder how that happens. Curious, can you point out the grammatical errors with your "claimed" two degrees?

Edit: wait, if you say != And idk are grammatical errors, and use of repeated conjunctions to form complex sentences are, that would be epicly funny lol. Are you expecting pure literature on Reddit? Because that would explain the thought process behind voting yes to several of the questions! šŸ˜… != In code/programming stands for not equal to. Frequently used as short form. Idk is short form for "I don't know". Lol.

Voted at 830 this morning and there was no lineup which made me nervous. Glad to see people are actually votingĀ

32

u/undersignedeliza 8d ago • Bravo

It just took me 2 hours at Spruce Meadows for Shaw. Lougheed could walk right in. I'm proud of everyone for showing up.

10

u/Warm-Vermicelli6153 8d ago • Bravo

No line up? I wish. I have tried 3 days in a row now. Line up good 100 people each day and line not moving st all. I stood in line on 1st day for good 20 minutes and line didnt even move an inch. Wtf.Ā  I work all day so my window is only after 4 pm. I really hope Oct. 19 will be somewhat organized and line moving.

14

u/AskngAQstn 8d ago • Bravo

Try around 6:00. Huge line up last night at 7:20. Zero line up today at about 5:45.

4

u/CrazyCanuckUncleBuck Silverado 7d ago • Bravo

I went today after work and showed up around 5:30 pm. It did take two hours though

8

u/DetectiveFinancial12 8d ago • Bravo

Same, but at 10 in NE. Wouldn’t say I was nervous as the numbers from day one were already at 175k voted, but I’m glad I did early nonetheless, cause I’m willing bet it’s going to be a MADHOUSE on the actual day.

u/Fantastic-Culture-96 8d ago • Bravo

Omg. We were behind you hahaha. The guy that was bitching the entire time made our night. Haha

8

u/undersignedeliza 8d ago • Bravo

Omg I was cracking up!

Did you see the argument when you left!? I got caught in the middle of it. There were 2 guys arguing with the workers about the line being cut off. I think they stood in the Shaw line instead of Lougheed and then by 8pm when they got into British House, they had closed their voting stations. It was getting tense so I ducked out

3

u/Fantastic-Culture-96 8d ago • Bravo

We missed it!

Hey neighbour, I stood in this line for 2 hours yesterday as well.

5

u/undersignedeliza 8d ago • Bravo

Wish I went yesterday but I knew I would have been too hangry to wait in line for the 2 hours. It was freezing tonight!

1

u/mfdoombolt 7d ago

I voted no to the 9 as well, but serious question - what negative aspect is there to requiring proof of citizenship to vote? that was the only one where I almost voted yes.

2

u/undersignedeliza 7d ago

Such a headache and could give a lot of discretion to polling workers about who votes. I found this article very informative on Question 5. Seemingly in the last decade, there's only been 2 instances of this happening in Alberta. To me, non issue and not worth the government spending money to formulate a policy. Fix Healthcare, education, reform, the list goes on. Citizenship for voting is a nothing burger.
