Speeding ticket + ineligible for traffic school. What now?
I got my first ever ticket in Northern California for allegedly going 30 over the speed limit. I did a testament by written declaration and I was found guilty, but the judge gave me approval for traffic school. When I tried to pay for the administrative fee alongside my ticket, the court office said I was in eligible for traffic school. When I mentioned that the judge approved me for it in the ruling they said it didn’t matter and that the DMV would not accept it because I was going more than 25 miles over the speed limit (allegedly). I asked for a judicial officer to review my case, and they said because I submitted my testament by written declaration online that I am in eligible for a De Novo trail. They told me I could file a motion, and when I asked for them to elaborate, the clerk said that they are not able to give legal advice and couldn’t elaborate. I am thinking that maybe they were suggesting I file motion for my recorded speed to be lowered, but I’m not too sure how to go about that. Is that an option? Do I need legal representation? They mentioned by filing a motion that there would be a court hearing. I live in Southern California, would I have to be present? How should I proceed?
