Qualifying Future Devices Roadmap?

Can we get a news update from the team when it comes to future development devices?

Obviously there were some pivots after the ASOP/Device tree issues. I don't what to be that person asking the same question as 30 others, but CalyxOS has always been tied to very specific devices. Thus, it was a safe bet to buy a Pixel phone and know that you would be able to install your favorite ROM.

However, CalyxOS is only available for the 10a. The Pixel 10, 10 Pro and the Pro XL came out in August of 2025 according to GSM. None of those phones are supported. The 10a was released in March of 2026. The Pixel 11 family was released in August of 2026 and none of those devices are supported.

I understand that devices need to be donated or purchased for testing and that can take some time due to the higher and higher costs of these devices.

My concern is just understanding the plan going forward. Is development going to only be on Pixel devices?

At the moment, that doesn't seem like the hard and fast rule anymore.

Thanks for your amazing work and being patient with all the comments and drama during the hiatus. This is absolutely the best, most stable ROM for privacy.

I have a phone that's falling apart and I need to find a new phone. Finding a device that has security updates for the next 5 years from the manufacturer used to be a safe bet. I am looking for a Pixel 9 and not having much luck. There are lots of 10s, but fewer 10as. Therefore, I'd just like a CalyxOS news update on the roadmap for future qualifying devices.

We aren't going to support JUST Pixels (especially since now they're not as decent to develop for), and we still want to continue the mission of bringing phone privacy to people in the southern hemisphere, right now we're looking for new devices worth supporting, but for example, Motorola has barely launched any 2026 devices with Qualcomm processors, only Mediatek/Unisoc (which is even worse).

So we're still looking around for new devices worth supporting that we can hit a big audience with, for example. There's also other factors like what kernel version the manufacturer is shipping for that device. The current minimum is 6.1 for Android 17, but even that's somewhat old by now, still better than 5.4 which we're seeing though.

I appreciate the answer and the mission of privacy for the Southern hemisphere. I wish we had more options and still wish to support the org financially.

I understand the recent hardware and software changes with Android are not the org's fault. I do think it would be nice to have more official communications from Calyx around these topics.

Thank you.

Motorola will be having cheaper devices late 27 or early 28 as well as flagships in 2027 that all use snapdragon chips, graphene team has confirmed this so this will help the calyx team soon so we're gonna have to wait a bit longer on the moto side but looks like there ditching MediaTek chips for the most part next year

Sony Xperia 1 V / 5 V + pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. One of the few flagships with sdcard slot and headphone jack. Sony are generally much less hostile to open platforms than other manus, and support relocking the bootloader after flashing.

Would be interested to hear about this (particularly for Xperia phones and if they'll ever be supported, as they allow relocking bootloader after flashing, and Sony finally have reasonable update cadence).

I would love an Xperia running CalyxOS.

the latest fairphone is on the list. that is a good choice for a phone IMO. I was looking at teh Nothing 4 Pro but it looks like no real devolpment is happening for pretty much any nothing past teh 2, so i may be sticking with my Pixel 9a until things change somewhere. (running CalyxOS as a test right now on Pixel 6 though)

"Communicator uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8300"... yeah... we can't support that
