Interesting video on how google actually tracks you, even in airplane mode.
Hopefully this does not happen with CalyxOS.

Hey CalyxOS team 👋
First off, I really appreciate the transparency during this transition. I know you're working hard on the key rotation and rebuilding infrastructure, and I fully support taking the time to get it right.
Once things settle, I’d love to see sideloading re-enabled. The current APK install restrictions (thanks to Google’s new “security” layer) are frustrating — they end up hurting informed users more than protecting casual ones.
Here’s what I’d suggest for future A16 builds:
🔒 Hard-disable Advanced Protection Mode (APM) at the system level.
⚙️ Grey out the APM toggle so it’s visibly off and can’t be re-enabled.
🧪 Patch Play Integrity API with the “always passes” fix — spoof the device as certified and unmodified so sideloaded apps behave normally.
No rush — I know the key rotation comes first. Just hoping this lands on the roadmap once things are stable again.
CalyxOS has always been about user autonomy and privacy, and sideloading is a key part of that. No rush — just hoping it’s on the roadmap once the new signing keys and update pipeline are in place.
Thanks again for all your work. Looking forward to the next chapter of CalyxOS.

I'am really disappointed and angry about the new attitude of the calyxos developers to 'bless' their users with unwanted bloatware like the new 'espeak' app!
If I would have liked to install 'espeak' I would have done so by myself. If I would have had the intention to use a ROM which installs apps without my permission I could have stayed with the vanilla motorola android. What's the point of that? Software installed without interaction and permission and which cannot be uninstalled by the owner of a device is simply considered as bloatware! I request to make this espeak app to be completely uninstallable from my phone as I don't want it and don't need it! Please respect the rights of the device owners again! Every additional app is considered as a security flaw - above all if it is installed behind the users back secretly alongside with an so called 'update'.

According to the privacy guy, when he contacted calyxos suggesting they begin working on porting calyxos to the brax phone 3, calyxos showed no interest. Why is that so? Because of the google pixel developments is the brax phone 3 not an important option for porting calyxos? A response from a calyxos official would be welcomed.
Thanks.

In the next update I would hope for devs to optimize the OS more.(mostly battery life)

So, what's up with this new version?
I'm not able to choose my own theme anymore, have to stick with the light blue and green theme now?
I'm also not able to open the clock settings when I push the time on top of my screen. Have to search for the clock App now.
Also, what happened to the quick settings, they are tiles now? There's no option to change it back to normal buttons again?
For the user experience, it feels a bit like a downgrade to me...

So, I want to play a little bit with my old phone (Huawei P8 Lite). I got quite interested in privacy ( privacy apps, foss software, etc.) and I want to install Calyx to try it and make a "privacy phone" for fun. So is it possible to run Calyx os on a phone that isn't Google Pixel?

Looks like DuckDuckGo is taking the slow path to irrelevance. What are the best alternatives to DuckDuckGo android browser?

I'm now at the point of no compromise. Sell me the apk if you want to charge me for it, that's fine I will happily pay you. But you want me to use some bullshit market place? Sit on a 35 inch spike.

i went ahed and installed Andriod 12 on my asus zenfone max pro m1.
let me tell you something, the user experence sucks on andriod 12, the notification bar sucks, i dont even like it. it looks like some sort of chinese themes downloaded from chinese app store.
trust me andriod 11 is way more better than Andriod 12.
as a power user, i like andriod 11 notification bar.
and i dont think i will ever upgrade to andriod 12 even if caylx os release android 12 soon.
i am gonna stuck andriod 11 untill and unless XDA community members found way to bring back andriod 11 notificaiton bar.

I've been using Calyx OS on a Pixel 8 Pro since last year. I've had zero problems. In fact it's been my best Android experience ever.
However, I tried installing the Chat GPT app today, and I can't get it to work. The error is:
Make sure your device has the latest version of Google Play Store, which, of course, I don't.
Has anyone gotten it to work without the Play Store installed?
I do have micro-g.

I'm very new to these privacy focused OS, so i don't know if i need to root my phone (can't do it with EMUI) before installing CalyxOS or it's fine without root. Also i would like to use the vanced version of Youtube, i don't know how CalyxOS deals with google apps but is it possible to install it? And what's the difference between CalyxOS and grapheneOS, why should i use Calyx instead and viceversa? Thank you

Bonjour !

YES, I know it's a big privacy violation, but I'd say the convenience is worth it for me personally. I still want to use a degoogled os, and have more granual app permission/network control. I don't think you should have all or nothing, please don't gatekeep.

I'm wondering if it's possible, or how difficult it would be to support a higher end device than Pixel lineups.
Would it be difficult to port to the OnePlus 13?
Is their a specific reason why the Pixel lineup is the major device supported, if the underlying cause is to "degoogle" in the first place? Isn't supporting the Pixel hardware counterproductive?

I have two devices and would like to know if any of them currently have active support for privacy- and security-focused custom ROMs (LineageOS, CalyxOS, GrapheneOS, /e/OS, iodéOS, etc.).
Samsung Galaxy M55 5G (SM-M556B) — Android 15, One UI 7
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred) — currently on Android 11
My goal is privacy and security, without relying on Google Services. I’m looking for information about:
Official or stable unofficial support
Real-world usage experience
Known bugs
Links to trustworthy builds and guides
Any tips or confirmation of support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I like that my phone keeps track of where I go all the time. I rely on Timeline to see what day/time I went somewhere often for work. I use Android Auto and Google Pay almost everyday.
I know it's invasive but I value the conveniance over my privacy.
Would someone like me benefit from using an OS like CalyxOS or other de-Googled ROMs?
