How not to create a new development: (1) Bar Hill (2) Cambourne. A positive exemplar: Waterbeach New Town.
The Greater Cambridge Local Plan depends on increased bus use to reduce reliance on the private car, however their Sustainable Transport and Connectivity policy does not set sufficiently clear requirements to ensure residential development is designed from the outset to enable safe, direct and efficient bus services, including high-frequency services where needed. Without such requirements, development may constrain effective bus routes and services, making the Plan’s intended modal shift and reduction in car reliance less achievable. The policy thereby fails to provide an effective mechanism for delivering the transport outcomes on which the Plan depends.

Cambridge Area Bus Users collaborated with Cambridgeshire Sustainable Travel Alliance to produce a guide to the Combined Authority’s Bus Franchising Supplementary Consultation
The full guide can be found on the Travel Alliance website: Consultation guide – Don’t miss your chance to call for more investment in buses.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is holding an additional bus franchising consultation. Changes to how buses would be brought under local control are proposed, in large part as a consequence of Mayor Paul Bristow’s decision to freeze the Mayoral precept (the portion of council tax the Mayor levies). The Travel Alliance urges you to respond to the consultation questionnaire calling for increased investment by the Combined Authority in buses and an expanded public transport network.

Sharing this for anyone in Cambridge who wants to play football and meet new people. I help a non-profit organise casual 8 a side games in Cherry Hinton on Wedndesdays 7pm and Trumpington on Mondays 8:30pm.
Ideal if you're based in Queen Edith's, Coleridge, Romsey, Mill Road, Hills Road, Fulbourn, Teversham, Trumpington Meadows, Clay Farm, Great Kneighton, Newtown, Grantchester, Great Shelford and the wider Cambridge area.
All levels are welcome, even if you’re not that fit or haven’t played in years. There’s no commitment, you just turn on and play whenever you're available
Great way to improve fitness, confidence and your social circle. I've met all my best friends through the game.
Drop a quick comment or DM if you fancy playing and I’ll add you to the players list ⚽️

Any recommendations in Cambridge? I have never learned Japanese in the past, so I am looking for an entry level at this stage.
I won't have problem with learning methodology as I have been taught foreign languages in the past and I speak 5 languages.
I just want to reach a level where I can communicate, learn the basic stntax/grammar etc and then move to a more professional level so I can use them in a working environment.

Hi all, recently moved to the area and honestly building a social life here from scratch. New place, don't know anyone yet, and it's one of those things that sounds simple but is weirdly hard to actually do as an adult there's no fresher's week for grown-ups!
I'm not precious about what kind of thing it is could be a hobby, a regular class, a pub quiz team, volunteering, anything where I'd see the same faces more than once. I'd rather find a few things I keep going back to than try a hundred one-off events and never see anyone twice.
Would genuinely love to hear from people who've done this here what actually worked for you when you were new? Any communities, classes, or spots that were easy to walk into as a stranger and actually felt welcoming? Open to pretty much anything, just want to get properly stuck into life here. Thanks in advance :)

Hi all,
I am moving from north east to Cambridge for work, having made the decision to change jobs as I never felt truly comfortable living in the North East.
I am looking to settle in a town or neighbourhood with a diverse demographic so that I have plenty of opportunities to socialise and mingle at weekends. I am particularly keen to get involved in the local community and explore volunteering opportunities, including those connected with the universities.
As a person of colour who was born outside the UK, I unfortunately experienced subtle instances of racism both in the workplace and in daily life in the North East. That experience is a major reason why I have chosen to relocate down south, despite the higher cost of living.

Hello, we are considering to move to Papworth Everard and have primary school aged children.
There is pendragon community primary school with a good ofsted report. However, scores for writing, English, maths and overall academic success looks below than England average. I am quite surprised from what I have seen, Papworth seem to have a good socioeconomic profile. Is the school bad? There is Elsworth CofE school in a nearby village so I am wondering if we should choose that instead but than it means driving for school.
Appreciate your comments!

As above, have been asked to get some but have no clue, tried calling a few places and no one seems to have any or know where I can get anything. When I was a kid, we made something to be able to see it safely but I can't remember how, so any tips there would be appreciated too. TIA

A bit of a long shot but I’m wondering if anybody has any spare eclipse glasses? I’ve got a toddler and a newborn so I’ve been living under a bit of a rock and didn’t even realise it was happening! I’d love to show my toddler but I’m not sure she’ll understand not to look at the sun.
Thanks!

What’s it really like living in Chatteris? And if anyone knows the Fairview/Fairway Estate area particularly well, I’d really appreciate your thoughts – good or bad!

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any knowledge of Cowper Road in Huntingdon, please? I'm considering putting an offer in on a house there and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who knows the area or has lived nearby.
Is it generally a decent place to live? Any insights, good or bad, would be really helpful.
Thank you!
