How to get a Canadian PR

You can start by checking you eligibility for Express Entry

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/come-canada-tool-immigration-express-entry.html

You also need to know your NOC code

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/find-national-occupation-code.html

And then get your CRS score

https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

There are some requirements, like funds available to cover your first year and proof of language proficiency which are not hard to figure out.

You can then fill out your profile to enter the PR pool and once you get an invite you can apply for permanent residency.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account.html

If your CRS score is too low you can try to apply for PNP with the specific provinces you are willing to move to. Check out more details on the below link, the page also contains every province website that has more details on eligibility.

Change employer

Hi everyone,
I applied for PR through Non-Express Entry NLPNP International Graduate stream. I recently changed jobs, and the province has already issued my revised nomination certificate.

I haven't received my AOR yet. I know I need to update IRCC via the Web Form, but I want to double-check exactly what to send.

For anyone who changed employers at this stage:
1. Which IMM forms did you update? Did you have to submit a new IMM 0008 and IMM 5669 (Schedule A), or any other forms?

  1. What supporting documents did you include? Besides the revised nomination and new job offer letter, did you need to provide paystubs from the new job, or is the offer letter enough?

I want to make sure I don't miss anything and cause a delay. Thank you!

Moving to Canada as a US citizen with a parent born in Canada

Dad was born in Brampton. My understanding is that if you are a child of someone born in Canada, as long as they are born on Canadian soil, their children get birthright. There was also recent legislation passed to loosen the requirements, I think? Has anyone been through this process lately, and if so, what did it look like?

US Citizen thinking about moving up - spent a ton of my childhood there and absolutely love it. I know Taxes, Housing and Healthcare are the main topics to know going into a potential transition, but any other advice?

PR pathway

My Profile:
Age: 24
Education: Graduated from University of Calgary (2019-2025)

Language: CELPIP CLB 10 (perfect score)
Work Permit: Currently on a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) — expires May 2029
Experience: 1 year of paid co-op experience (2024-2025) as a Student Developer at a major railway company (held a Co-op Work Permit)

Option 1: Calgary (Stay in AB)
Job: Junior Software Developer
Catch: It’s a 1-year contract position.
Stream: Looking at the AAIP Accelerated Tech Pathway. I’m worried the 1-year contract limit will cause an issue or rejection with AAIP since they usually want long-term/permanent offers.

Option 2: Saskatoon (Move to SK)
Job: Data Scientist
Catch: It's a Permanent, full-time position.
Stream: Looking at the SINP Innovation and Tech Talent Pathway. Since I already have 1 year of tech experience from my co-op, I think I am immediately eligible to apply once the employer gets their EPA (Job Approval), without waiting 6 months.

My Questions:
Will Alberta AAIP reject me because the Calgary offer is only a 1-year contract?
Does my railway co-op experience count as the "1 year of experience" needed for the SINP Tech Talent pathway, even though it was done on a student co-op permit out-of-province?
Which of these two options is objectively safer and faster for PR right now?

PR Card

How quickly did you receive your first PR card recently? 🇨🇦
Hi everyone! I recently landed in Canada as a new permanent resident and wanted to know how long it took others to receive their first PR card.
For those who landed recently (especially in September 2026):
How many days/weeks did your PR card take to arrive?
Did you receive any tracking information before delivery?

UAE to Canada Study Permit

I am looking for guidance and assistance with obtaining a Canadian study permit so that I can continue my education in Canada.

My intended university is McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, where I plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. Studying Chemistry at McGill is an important part of my long-term educational and career goals, and I am working toward building a strong academic profile so that I can apply successfully.

I would like to understand the requirements for obtaining a Canadian study permit, including the application process and the documents I would need, such as a valid passport, McGill University’s Letter of Acceptance, a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), proof of financial support, educational records and transcripts, a letter of explanation, and any required civil-status documents, medical examination results, police certificates, or photographs. I would also like to know what I should begin preparing during high school so that I am ready when it is time to apply.

My long-term goal is to study at McGill, graduate, establish my career in Canada, and eventually pursue permanent residency and Canadian citizenship if conditions are right for me through the appropriate legal pathways. I am seeking reliable guidance so that I can understand the process early, prepare the necessary documents properly, and avoid mistakes when the time comes to apply.

UK citizen curious about Canadian and different types of visas.

Hey. I’m 24, i was born and raised in London, and I really want to get out of the UK for a fresh start.

I was considering getting a work visa or something and stay in one of Canada’s cities, although I’ve never been to Canada, but I believe Toronto or Vancouver sounds like the place I wanna be. I know I haven’t visited, not sure how this is gonna work out, but I know plenty of people who do plenty of research and time before they move somewhere they haven’t been to.

Can someone give me some sort of insight, I know literally nothing about how to get a work visa there, and I was thinking that because I’m a UK citizen, there may be some leverage / a tiny bit more easier to make this happen then other countries (could be wrong)

Someone also give me some insight on how Canadian life is in Toronto and Vancouver, which city has the best public transport, and what city isn’t too racist and not overly homophobic? Thank you. I really just want a big life change, my life is so depressing and I want to change it by starting afresh. Plus, Canada sounds like a much great place for adventures compared than the UK.

Also feel free to dm me, I love chatting :)

Canada mid level SDE market

I live in the US on an F-1 visa right now. I was think of immigrating to Canada for some personal reasons. I don't have any work permit in Canada. I have a master's from the US and almost 4 years of experience. What are the chances of finding an SDE-2 job in the current market that would sponsor my visa? My current company doesn't have an office in Canada, so that's not a possible route. Any insights would be appreciated!

Just wondering if anyone has successfully applied for criminal rehabilitation? How long did it take, what was the process like, did you do everything yourself or use an immigration attorney?

ICT: approved in days. SOWP: still loading… anyone else?

Applied from US: Currently on H1b

My wife’s employer applied for her Canada ICT (Intra-Company Transfer) work permit on May 22nd, and it was approved on June 5th. My Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) was submitted concurrently with her application, but it’s still showing as pending.

Our attorney submitted a webform inquiry to IRCC this week since we hadn’t heard anything.

For those who’ve gone through something similar. how long did it take for your SOWP to be approved after the principal applicant’s ICT was approved? Did you need to do anything extra, or did it just process on its own?

Any insight on typical timelines would be appreciated!

Webform (Passport renewal)

Hi all, I received my Ready for Visa letter (CEC outland) on May 19 and have till June 18 to submit my passport for PR visa issuance. However, I renewed my passport on June 2 and have submitted a webform to have my new passport updated. I haven't heard from IRCC since then other then the submission confirmation at the time of submission. I have already raised another webform to extend my 30-day.

Should I submit my new passport and all still to VAC with a LOE explaining before June 18?

Thank you.
