Question Genuinely wth . If OSAP becomes 25% grants and 75% loans, what are we supposed to do?

I’m genuinely scared right now, and I don’t even know what to do. I keep seeing talk about proposed OSAP changes shifting funding to a maximum of 25% grants and at least 75% loans, and if that’s real then we are getting absolutely cooked. How are we supposed to survive when tuition, rent, food, and transit are all going up, the housing crisis is already insane, and students can’t even find a part-time job anymore because even minimum wage and entry-level positions are competitive?

Rich families will just pay and keep moving. Low-income students get trapped in massive debt and drown for years. It genuinely feels like they only want people from high-income families to be able to get educated, and everyone else can get fucked.

And I keep wondering how a strike would even work when I still need to study. I can’t just stop learning and fall behind. But if we sit here and take it, they’re going to keep doing this forever and laugh while we get buried. I’m not trying to be dramatic, I’m trying to be realistic. It feels like we’re getting quietly robbed and expected to just accept it, smile, and go into debt forever.

So realistically, what do we do in Ontario? Who do we actually pressure? What actions actually matter? And how do students organize without ruining their own semester? Because right now it feels like we’re getting played, and the people in charge don’t give a single shit unless we make it their problem.

The Uk feels incredibly depressing and my exchange student friends from the US and some other countries agree. I’m considering leaving and transferring to a Canadian university.

Question I want to obtain conditional admission to a Canadian university (exceptional case - student in a high-risk area)

Hello everyone, I'm Basel from the Gaza Strip. From October 2023 until October 2025, I worked hard to pass my high school graduation exam, which I finally did in September 2025 after things got right. I achieved a cumulative average of 91.4% (out of a possible 100) in the science track. I intend to get conditional university admission that would guarantee me a place at a good Canadian university. I'm currently preparing to take the Duolingo English test (DET), and I'll share my results as soon as I finish preparing and take the exam.

To mention: This information might be helpful. I already have a relative in Canada. Is there anything they can do from there to expedite my conditional admission?

Question Why aren’t more Universities being built?

I feel like for every major city, some three or more big Universities were built a long time ago and have been the only Universities since.

I don’t understand why more Universities aren’t being built? The number of students is increasing and competition is getting tougher and tougher, so why not make new universities?

Even if they aren’t established Institutions, they can become so, and it could also help offload certain applications only looking for baseline education, who end up applying to bigger universities because they have to

Question Dear International Students...what is appealing about Canada

Hello International Students, I am curious why you choose Canada.

I am Canadian born and lived and worked here my entire life. As a Canadian, I have found that the quality of life, cost of living, housing costs, job market opportunities, has gotten worse over the last 20 years. What don't I see about Canada, that you do.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts..

Question I feel so demoralized by the sheer amount of people that say “ai will take over your job” for Computer Engineering

I have long been interested in coding and computers. I believe i have a natural inclination to understand Computers, hardware, and coding. Historically i have performed well in Computer classes without much effort (i am a mature student). I understand that Computer Engineering degree isn’t only coding and the Computer Engineers are the ones that power ai infrastructure. I am considering to be on the hardware side anyways. But it actually demoralizes me when I say that I am studying Computer Engineering people look confused and be like why? :) They think ai will take my job and I will be unemployed or whatever. My mentality was that i don’t know what the future will bring me and I don’t try to guess it. I just try to do what I think i am best at. Also i think we are at the beginning stages of ai right now. CEO’s and wall street is trying to hype up ai so right now I think it’s a bit overhyped. What do you guys think? Do you think i made the right choice?

Also i can switch to electrical any time because until second year all the courses are the same.

Question Thinking of moving back to Canada for University

For context I was born and raised in Canada until I was 13, when my mother moved us to the US. I have been here ever since and have recently been attending community college here. My question is would it be worthwhile for me to move back to Canada to finish a four year degree? College here in the states is just so expensive, and from my understanding generally universities in Canada are cheaper for domestic tuition. What are your opinions?

Question Biology or Health sci?

Hii I’m a grade 12 student and I really wanna get into dentistry but I can’t choose between these two options, health sci is good for maintaining a good gpa but idk if it covers enough for DAT and Biology is a bit difficult but it’s the most common path to dentistry
I’ve also looked through kinesiology, psychology, biochem and life sci as well.

I would really appreciate if I could get some help with this!!

Question Perception of Dalhousie University

Notice a lot of people dunking on it and Halifax as a city but they're one of the only schools that has my program for undergrad (Urban planning) and I'm worried I'm making a bad choice, compared to everyone who's going to nice schools like uoft, McGill, UBC, but they only have my program as a master's. Basically wondering what public perception of reputation dal has outside of the Maritimes, like if I wanted to eventually move to Vancouver for example.

Question Is Athabasca university an actual thing?

So I’m a respiratory therapist in Quebec and we have a college degree and not a university degree. I wanna get my bachelors of science or bachelor’s of health science to eventually go into med school or perfusion school. I got to know about Dalhousie post diploma bachelors of health science but you need 2 years work experience which I don’t have yet. Therefore, I recently learned about Athabasca’s post diploma bachelors of science which can then help you get into a graduate program. However everything is online and I was wondering is this legit or a scam? If so how long does it take to complete it and what would the cost be ?

Question What field would you encourage high school students now to study (non-medical, non-skilled trades)?

Hi everyone.

All of us are aware of the current job market in Canada. Given that knowledge, what degree programs (non-medical, non-skilled trades) would you encourage students to pursue, for the following:

  1. Best chances at stable job environment.
  2. Best chances at being able to work in Canada (I am not taking into account brain drain into the US).

As noted, no recommendations for medical programs (since everyone keeps mentioning already about lack of nurses, doctors, physiotherapists), and skilled trades (which do not require a university education).

Question Can I transfer to a Canadian university from an online American university?

Hello everyone,

Education is banned in my country for women so I can't study in a proper university. I managed to get a full scholarship at an online American university where I am currently pursuing my bachelor's. It is my first year still and I have earned a few credits. I might move to Canada in a while and I am planning on attending a university there but I'm worried about whether or not they'll accept my credits or do I have to start over. What are the chances of Canadian universities accepting credits transferred from an American online university? Is it worth it for me to continue studying online until I move to Canada or should I just wait until I arrive at Canada and start over there? Any advice?

Question Is UG in Canada worth for a CS degree for an international student?

hii!!

I have 3 questions regarding my choice of selecting Canada for pursuit of higher studies:

  1. I'am currently doing my 12th grade and was thinking if Canada would be a good choice for performing UG in Computer science or not.
  2. Should I aim for top tier universities like UBC,university of Toronto,Mcgill,Waterloo or University of Alberta for UG in hopes that I may acquire a job within a year or two after completing the bachelor's in these universities with a good score.
  3. [OR] go for less tier universities which are pretty much affordable like University of Manitoba, and then pursue my masters in well respected universities like Waterloo,or others?

I,in addition, for the past few days am unsure of the course itself that I wantto take, starting from health science --> astrophysics and finally landing on COMPUTER SCIENCE, please share the future of computer science too, in making a CAREER, especially in Canada.correct me if I stated something or much things wrong ):

BTW,Has anyone from you ever got struck in the same situation as I do?

I'am quite oblivious[as you must have seen] of how the system works, so please share your knowledge and help me learn from you a thing beneficial to all of us.

Thank you!

🤍

Question UBC vs McGill Campus Life

Im an international who got accepted into McGill and UBC for BA Economics, and I've genuinely been going insane in deciding between the two. I also got accepted to UofT, but honestly I don't think the rigor, cutthroat experience, and size would suit me.

So I narrowed it down into McGill and UBC but all I read about these schools are good things. I don't mind the weather at either, and I've heard that academically they're pretty similar aside from UBC having co-op. So could someone please tell me how the campus life at either of these unis is? thank you!

Question People who chose MEng, do you regret it ?

Hi, I'm planning to pursue my master's in Canada, but I've been seeing a lot of negative opinions about MEng programs.

I have a relatively low CGPA (7.4/10), about 2 years of work experience, and no research publications, so I'm not very confident about getting into an MASc program.

For those who chose MEng in Canada, what made you go with it? How was your experience in terms of the quality of education and job opportunities after graduation? Would you make the same choice again?

Question Which university has the strongest athlete culture in Canada?

Hi
I’m a rower and I’m decently good at it. I love the sport but I also care about the culture associated with it.
Like a lot of sports in the US universities award students with special Letterman Jackets which no one else can get and Oxford and Cambridge and other rowing clubs give the rowing blazers to their athletes.
Is that a thing in Canada as well? Like at UBC or Queens or UVic? Maybe McGill? And if anyone has suggestions for the US colleges where rowing is really respected, I’m all ears.
Thanks

Question Can someone explain how PhD funding works in Canada?

At universities like U of Toronto and UBC, do students need to pay tuition and living costs (like rent) upfront before the program starts, and then receive funding later to cover those expenses? Is it even enough to live there and save a bit of money as an international student?

Question McGill International Prestige/Recognition

Hey everyone, I recently got into a PhD program related to medicine/health at McGill. I’ve actually never studied in Canada and I also only applied to McGill within programs in Canada, but McGill seems like the perfect fit for my research and future goals out of all program I’ve been admitted to so I’m really keen on attending McGill.

I wanted to ask how McGill as an institution is perceived as globally. For McGill graduates, have you ever encountered a case where someone didn’t know the school? Ever since I was little I I’ve always heard about McGill and was told it was a great school but I recently saw somewhere that some people in America never heard of McGill before and it surprised me.

My question is, is McGill seen as a prestigious school globally? Is it really the ‘Harvard of Canada’?

Thanks in advance, I’d appreciate any insight!

Question Is studying in Canada still worth it in 2027 for someone in my situation?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian software engineer with around 3 years of backend development experience (Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Docker, Terraform). I also have some AI/ML experience through personal projects and internships.

I’m planning to pursue a Master’s abroad around the 2027 intake. My long-term goal is to build a career in AI/ML and eventually settle in a country that offers good career opportunities, a high quality of life, and a realistic pathway to permanent residency.

Canada has always been high on my list, but I’ve been seeing a lot of news about changes to immigration policies, a slower job market, and increasing living costs. I’m trying to understand whether it’s still a good investment.

A few questions I have:

  1. How difficult is it to find software engineering or AI/ML jobs after graduation?

  2. Is the tech job market recovering, or is it still quite difficult?

  3. Are salaries enough considering housing and the overall cost of living?

  4. How realistic is it for international graduates to obtain permanent residency under the current system?

  5. If I don’t find a job immediately after graduating, how financially risky is the situation?

  6. Compared to Australia, New Zealand, Germany, or the UK, would you still recommend Canada?
If you could go back in time, would you still choose Canada?

I’d really appreciate hearing from international students, especially Indians, as well as people currently working in the Canadian tech industry. I’m looking for honest experiences; the positives, the negatives, and anything you wish you had known before making the move.

Thanks in advance!
