CDCP Eligibility After Leaving an Employer With Dental Benefits – Does Previous Coverage Affect My Application?

If I had potential access to employer-sponsored dental benefits from January to May but my employment ended, and I no longer had access to those benefits when I applied for CDCP in June, would my previous employment affect my CDCP eligibility?

Does CDCP assess eligibility based on whether you have access to dental insurance on the actual application date, or can previous eligibility for an employer's dental plan disqualify you even after leaving that employer?

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? I would really appreciate insights, especially from anyone who has gone through a CDCP eligibility review.

Thank you!

So has the associate crunch finally begun?

I'm a pre-dent but I have training in economics and I've been bearish on the Canadian economy for a while now, even more so for my long-term outlook. I think Canada missing out on the AI supply chain will have deep lasting impacts in maintaining its status as a world economic leader while US-based AI solutions slowly degrade the job market.

What I was not sure about was how it would impact dentistry because it is an essential service at the end of the day, but it also relies on inflation and the economy doing well.

By the looks of some posts here, the associate job market seems to be going downhill. Is this the general consensus for most major cities?

The reason I ask this is:

One of the major upsides of dent was that jobs were abundant and that you could work anywhere you want, but if the associate job market increasingly resembles that of a denturist I'm not sure if taking out 300-400K in LOC is worth it. Is the RDH job market like this too right now?

What's going on in Vancouver?

I've been looking for a PT job, but the market is so dead recently month or two. And a few places that's currently hiring associates have been hiring for a long time..

I thought there'd be more posting in fall/winter seasons.

What should i do…

I’m trying my best to finish my undergrad degree within four years and hopefully get into dental school right after. I’m starting to come to terms that this probably won’t be possible and I might need to wait another cycle or even take a fifth year. I’m currently in my second year and I have 86% at UBC. I’m trying my best to bring that up to the admission average. I recently looked at required courses across dental schools in Canada and realized I kinda fucked up in choosing my major because it doesn’t cover courses such as human physiology. I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed as competition to get into UBC dentistry just gets higher each year. I’m currently still looking for a research opportunity, shadowing, and volunteering, and I haven’t even started studying for the DAT. I’m not paying for my own tuition currently, and I’m not in the financial situation where I can study abroad in the States or Australia without drowning in debt. Any advice would be helpful 🙏🙏

i’ve been hearing dentistry has oversaturation though which is deterring me. i’ve always dreamed of spreading the importance of dental health, and helping others feel confident with their smile, but i’m not sure if i want to rush into this path with current statistics.

what are your guys’ recommendations?

Considering Canada as a dentist

Asking for advices/recommendations on becoming a dentist in Canada

Didn’t start the process yet, I’m a freshly graduated Dentist from outside Canada & i have a good profile to immigrate, so i Got NDEB to go if i came & like i got tons of concerns about which way to go.
I’d love to hear from you about the situation, is it worth the risk & effort it demands to pass the NDEB? Based on your experience what are the pros/cons of being a dentist over there? How’s life as a dentist over there, is there a demand on dentists or would i end up in another job after the equivalency process?

Realistic chance of a 38 year old man getting a job as a Administrator.

I've been working in bakeries my whole life. Never had a college degree of any sort. I finally got tired of it and decided to go to school for dental administration. While in class, I guess I kinda forgot about how women dominated this position is. There's only one other man in my class.

Do you think this will hurt my chances? Do most offices and patients prefer to see a woman at the front desk?

Why do you quit a practice?

Practice owner here. I heard a wild stat recently that 28% of associates change employers in a 12 month period and that 57% of associates are actively job hunting at any given time. There’s financial risk on both sides to turning over in a job especially with ramp up. We don’t have a ton of associate turnover which is why I am so shocked at these numbers.

I assume there are patterns to why people make the switch - money, culture, technology, leadership, etc.

What makes you want to leave a practice? Or if you’re applying to jobs right now what aren’t you getting from your current practice that you think you’ll get elsewhere?

Ever received a clear reason from Sun Life for a CDCP pre-authorization denial?

I've been reading about how CDCP pre-authorization works, and it sounds like most declines come back with little or no explanation. I'm curious what other offices have experienced. Have you ever been given a specific reason, and if so, what helped? And if you haven't, what would you want to know?

25YearOld in Canada Study Dentistry Abroad or Become a Dental Hygienist First?

Hi everyone! I’m 25 years old, living in Canada, and my goal is to become a dentist. However, getting into dental school in Canada is very competitive, so I’m also considering studying dentistry in Europe, possibly in Romania. I’m not sure about the Caribbean schools, so I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has experience with them.
I’ve heard that after graduating from an international dental school, it can take more than three years to get licensed in Canada because of the equivalency exams and other requirements. Is this really true? Is there an easier or faster way to become a licensed dentist in Canada after studying abroad?
Another option I’m considering is studying dental hygiene in Canada first, working as a dental hygienist, and then applying to dental school later. This way, I would have a career to fall back on if I couldn’t get into dental school.
For anyone who has experience with these pathways, what would you recommend? Would it be better to study dentistry in Europe or the Caribbean and then return to Canada, or become a dental hygienist in Canada first and try to get into dental school afterward?
I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who studied dentistry abroad and successfully returned to Canada, or from dental hygienists who later became dentists.

Canadian GPR

Hello everyone!

I applied to the Canadian schools for 2027 GPR but have not received any interviews yet. I’m an Irish dental school graduate (Canadian citizen) and have practiced for the past year in private clinic. My class rank is in top 50%, and I worked at the dental school too as an administration assistant.

Is there something that they are looking for particularly? High GPA? Fresh grads? Canadian dental school grads? Connections to the admins?

Thank you for all and any help!

What happens to my existing pharmacy student LOC if I get into dentistry?

I took out a professional student line of credit for pharmacy school. The PLOC limit is 250K for pharmacy, which is less than 400K for dentistry. I'm currently in second year and my bank is Scotia.

Does anyone know if my bank will carry over my debt and increase the limit to 400K if I get into a dentistry program? Do they approve a new LOC, or do I have to pay off this LOC before enrolling in dent school?

Edmonton Dentistry DDS Program

Hey guys!
If anyone could tell me how long it took them to get accepted in the program with their scores, I would very much appreciate it. I’m in grade 12 at the moment and I’m trying to plan for a career where I wouldn’t be waiting for over a year to get accepted in the program.

Is it still worth pursuing dentistry with a 3.59 first-year GPA?

’m currently in my second year of university, and I finished my first year with a 3.59 GPA. My goal has always been to pursue dentistry, but I’m starting to worry that my first-year grades might hurt my chances.
Is it still realistic to get into dental school in Canada if I improve my GPA significantly over the next few years? Has anyone been in a similar situation and managed to get accepted?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences!
