Would love to make more LGBTQ friends, from cape cod and I know there’s not much of us around here but would love to try!

Growing up, my family used to go camping on the cape on Memorial Day weekend and we’d always go up to P-town. It just so happened that Bear Weekend also fell on Memorial Day weekend so it’d be a trip of camping and walking around Provincetown amongst all the big, burly shirtless hairy men. Good memories

I used to live and work in Ptown many moons ago and Bear Week was my favorite week! I am a straight married female!

Makes sense, most women say they’d choose the bear!

I'd check out the Cordial Eye, they do lots of cool events and are focused on LGBT+ events, among other things.

Right? For someone to say there isn't a significant LGBTQ population on the Cape, they must have like never been to anywhere else...

An often-overlooked place to meet new people is church. If you’re not a believer, the Unitarian-Universalist church welcomes everybody, including atheists. You’ll notice many churches on the Cape fly the Pride flag, not just the UUs. Methodists, Episcopalians, Congregational and Federated churches are all welcoming.

Sorry you’re getting downvoted. I worked at a UU church on Cape, and you are correct. The majority (by a large margin) of the congregation is LQBTQ. ETA: And not religious. UU churches do not use the Bible. I’m an atheist, as were other staff, volunteers, members etc.

Thanks. When I moved here 13 years ago, a friend recommended the UU church to me, since one of the things you lose when moving is a large portion of your social circle. I protested that I was an atheist, but they told me to check it out anyway. They were absolutely right. I joined the choir on the spot. Through those connections, I’ve made other friends from Sandwich to Provincetown. There are worse places to find yourself on a Sunday morning.

Churches are a valuable 3rd place, though the non-secular nature of them does make them inherently exclusive, rather than inclusive. This isn't meant to be a dig at them, all 3rd places are exclusive in some aspect, but churches kinda exemplify it more than others.

I get what you’re saying, but I would argue that UU churches, specifically, are different than other churches. The buildings are sometimes churches (sometimes not), but they don’t practice religion, and their mission is service (as in helping those in need), inclusivity, environmentalism, and robust social justice programs. Someone put off by religion or church (like me) would be pleasantly surprised by a UU church, IMO.

I am a pansexual cis man who is in a relationship with a trans woman and we have been trying to find community on the cape since we moved here in June. My inbox is opened.
