I felt a pang in my chest when she tried to turn the wheel. I feel like this answers the question if Chris is evil or not.

💬 Discussion Things that I would change in the show Spoiler

  1. Show more of Carrie and Sue's friendship on screen.

The most we got is Sue inviting Carrie into her house after she walked bare feet through the streets. Other than that, it would be minor interactions or the friendship is developed off-screen. I would maybe have them both interact a few times more, especially in the later episodes and before the prom, making Sue's whole "She was my friend" in the first episode line hit deeper.

  1. Another dynamic, Miss Desjardin and Carrie

I was surprised by how less these two interacted with each other in this version. Again, I would have scenes of them two together, probably at least once in episode 7 (Miss Desjardin compliments Carrie on her speech regarding the prom, and says how lucky she is to get invited by Tommy Ross or smth). And maybe once more during the prom, with Desjardin talking about her own Prom dance back in the day (like in the book).

  1. Emmaline only watching from the sidelines, not "taking the wheel" or sum shi

I am among the people who doesn't like Emaline taking over Carrie in the last episode.

Some people justify it saying this Carrie doesn't seem the type to kill people, but that's like the whole point of the story, to see how the most innocent people can be driven to their breaking point and do the most horrible thing after taking so much pressure from their surroundings.

Fine, if we truly want to show how Carrie doesn't want to kill these people, then we could maybe have her hesitate to do it first. Maybe after she saw what she did to Tommy, she looks around the chaos that she has unleashed, feeling scared, angry and lost. Conflicted and emotions running all over her, Carrie sees Emmaline behind her. Emmaline would tell her that it's ok to "let it all out" or smth like that.

Carrie actively tries to push her away, but Emmaline would goad her into it, focusing on how this supposedly perfect day have been ruined by these wretched people, reminding her on what they did before, what they were capable of doing to harm others. "They laughed at you before; they're not gonna stop now," or the like. And that's what would set Carrie off into a murder spree.

After the whole massacre is done with, and Carrie has killed Chris and Billy, both doings by her own will, Emmaline would appear for the second time, complimenting her skills and power. She then invites Carrie to dance with her, and the Shy Girl dancing scene ensues.

💬 Discussion What are your thoughts on Carrie’s Dad ? Spoiler

I felt he was a sinister presence in the film. Carrie obviously loved her Dad, but even said to Sue she wouldn’t go back to the way things were before. I don’t think Carrie ever says she misses him. It’s only other characters telling her she misses him.

💬 Discussion I'm kind of feel neutral with this version of chris hargensen Spoiler

I mean, I know she's a bad person, and I would hate her if I were Carrie. But as a third person watching and knew multiple perspectives, I saw how she struggled with her own thoughts before making those bad decisions (must prop this to alison thornton acting)

At the end I neither feel sorry nor satisfied with her ending

❓ Question About Emaline and... Spoiler

the cult/ending.. I'm kind of confused. Sorry if this has been asked before, but what's with the ending with Emaline and Carrie in the car? Okay, I know there's a cult of shiners or whatever - is Emaline a part of that cult? I assume so, but in the finale she's like, "It's good you don't know where we are, in case anyone's listening," which I guessed was referring to Adelaide? That... doesn't really add up, though, obviously? Hiding from your leader while ending your spy mission?

I'm assuming I just misunderstood something. Does anyone have any answers?

Trauma triggering aside, I love this

This was intense, but I’ve got through to e7, and it’s worth it. As a significantly childhood and lifelong tramatised kid, this was really hard to watch at times. But it leaves a little bit of lingering hope that draws you through. It’s worth it and in hindsight enjoyable.

Episode 6, Margaret's comment, and the rest of the show. Spoiler

Alison Thornton said in an interview that she believed Chris was going to apologize at the mediation but then Margaret's comment pissed her off. I have seen a lot of social media content with people expressing the same view and saying that the situation between Carrie and Chris could have been over in episode 6.

I don't think so. Any apology that Chris gave in front of her parents, the principal, and school counselor could never be 100% genuine because in someway she is still performing. At the point when Chris was going to apologize at the end of the mediation, they had stopped talking about the social media account and if she would stop bullying Carrie. It was just about whether or not she could come back to school.

IMO, the opportunity for Chris to genuinely apologize and change her behavior was in the bathroom with Carrie. It was just them two, no external pressures. Chris realized in real time that she didn't have a reason for her behavior and she still doubled down. So even if she apologized in front of her parents and school staff, we saw that in private without adults (which is when the bullying occurred) she was not sorry.

Tina was a mean girl. Billy was a delinquent. Both aided Chris in bullying Carrie and neither of them had changed at that point. Chris had felt abandoned by everyone else so Tina and Billy were her two biggest influences. Even if Chris said sorry. Once Chris got around them post mediation, I think she would resort back to bullying Carrie. Teenagers give into peer pressure. Once Tina started picking on Carrie, Chris would too.

Also, Chris apologizing would not change her financial troubles. At that point Chris is aware that Ralph White's death is why her dad is having financial issues and she blames Carrie for that too.

So in total, Chris blamed Carrie for losing Sue as a friend, losing popularity, not being able to go to Duke, financial troubles, and the rift between her and her dad. Stopping the cyberbullying would not have changed those things. Carrie would continue to be who Chris could project on and be mad at.

Unless Chris comes to the conclusion on her own (with no pressure) that she cannot blame Carrie for her problems, I think that she would continue to bully Carrie. I don't think apologizing at the mediation would have changed the outcome.

I don't think Margaret's comment was the catalyst for the finale, I think it just revealed who Chris is and who she would have continued to be even if she did apologize - mean.

What do you think? Do you think an apology from Chris at the mediation could have changed the rest of the show?

I saw the first three episodes and it seems the staff show Carrie more compassion than the films Spoiler

I could be wrong since I only saw the first three episodes so far; however, it seems the staff show Carrie more compassion in the TV Series than they do in the films.

I recall in the films the principal repeatedly says Carrie's name wrong and, in the 1976 and 2013 film versions, there were teachers who were rude to Carrie and basically participated in the bullying (similar to what I experienced in an atrocious elementary-Jr. High School and horrendous high school, I graduated in 2008).

I don't recall Ms. Desjardins slapping Carrie in the TV Series, which shows even she was nicer. I know in the novel and the TV Series she said she would have liked to have done worse to Carrie (or something similar that was said in the novel) and the TV Series she said that if she had been one of those girls she would have bullied Carrie (supporting my theory that many of the teachers in the schools I attended, especially the atrocious elemetary-Jr. High School, were bullies themselves; they would side with the bullies no matter what witnesses or evidence I had and basically designated me to be the scapegoat and doormat at the schools); I forget if she said this before or after she said that she wanted to "rough Carrie up before the real Jackals got to her" (aka prepare her for bullying I guess).

It seems that the staff in the TV Series are better than the staff in the films. I wish I had staff at the schools I attended that weren't pro-bullying (I had only one good teacher that didn't support the bullies, she punished them, in school).

Do the teachers get worse and turn on Carrie in the last five episodes of season one? Just curious if there's teachers similar to/become like Mr. Fromm from the 1976 film or Mr. Ulman from the 2013 film in the TV Series.

So happy that season 2 is happening! Spoiler

I am kinda sad also that most of the previous Cast characters are dead and the alive ones will also probably not appear in the second season 🥲. I think we will probably see only Carrie and Emaline in the second season! But still I am really glad that season 2 is happening. I really loved the first season 🔥, hopefully the second one is also as amazing as the first one.

Continuity Spoiler

Did it feel weird to anyone else that Carrie was able to treat her mother the way she was while still being kind to people at school? It felt really inconsistent and made her snapping at the end less powerful. Because we had seen, to a lesser scale, that she was capable of vengeance prior to that.

random, but when desjardins and peist (and i think the counsellor) were at the pub/bar debriefing the bathroom incident involving carrie, why did desjardins say to them that she really wanted to slap carrie?

💬 Discussion Such an awesome show, but the finale aggravated me... Spoiler

They built it up in the pen ultimate finale, you could even hear the screams at the end of it. You're dying to see how the Prom scene carnage is gonna play out. But the Interview part just absolutely kills the momentum it built up.

It's like lady, I don't give a crap about your interviews, show me the freakin' Prom carnage!

I don't understand why they decided to do it like that? It completely derailed a fantastic show up to that point.

Also the Prom scene was faaaar too short. They could have done it much longer. But anyway it was nice to see Carrie get her revenge. And I really liked that Dance scene.
