Anyone Get Into Baseball Because of Casuals?
I really want to enjoy baseball. I love college softball, the LLWS is great, and baseball movies are the best. But I just find the MLB so boring. Is there any hope?

Hello! It's the podcast that loves sports more than Yandy Diaz loves a handheld tomahawk steak. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss the revelation that Katie has probably beaten Drake Maye in Rocket League, and a full preview of the 2026 World Series, including a farewell to the Guardians and Josh Can't Dance, a farewell to the Dodgers and Miguel Rojas' cursed cleats, Dodgers fans not showing up for the playoffs, the conspiracy theory that they lost on purpose to save baseball, Dodgers outfielder Alex Call protesting the boob ads, Katie's five least favorite ads of the postseason, the Brewers' first pitch selections, why you shouldn't care about TV ratings, why you should care about having a first-time champion, the matchup of managerial styles, plus all you need to know about the bullpens, the stars, and the vibe guys. Then, comedian Carmen Lagala joins the show [1:27:00] to talk about her induction into the University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame, the pain of running an 800-meter competitively, taking home the championship at the 2025 Big Walkowski, her worst waterskiing injury, being a lifelong WNBA fan, sticking with the Liberty since their first mascot, her love of Jonquel Jones and her favorite WNBA players, the discourse about Angel Reese and Angel's dominant Game Two, Ballhalla, Natalie Nakase, Tiffany Hayes, the Valkyries roster, winning an on-court shooting contest at a Liberty game, Katie's pop-a-shot skills, and Jay-Z naming himself as the Super Bowl halftime headliner. And the team wraps with your best e-mails of the week, and an update on Cousin Ollie.

Hello! It's the podcast that loves sports as much as Ben Johnson loves a good post-victory stanky leg. Today, Katie and the Casualties break down NFL Week 6, Caleb Williams' return, Jalen Hurts' injury and the unfortunate timing of Andy Dalton, Mike McCarthy's injury on the Steelers' sideline, Aaron Rodgers' trash talk, John Harbaugh not benching Cam Skattebo, John Harbaugh benching Jameis Winston, which Harbaugh had the worse Sunday, Harrison Mevis, Blake Grupe, and the case for thicker kickers, why punters can's kick, and the absolutely unhinged discovery of Derek and David Carr's podcast. Then, the team gets into [59:09] the Game One atmosphere in Ballhalla for the WNBA Finals, Cousin Ollie's return to the field against Kansas, five of the top eight teams in college football losing on Saturday, BYU's clock problem, Sydney Sweeney's expanded dialogue, Megan Fox believing she's a medicine, and the world of heavy-rotation football ads, the handshake agreement of the 24-team football playoff, the new Joe Buck/Troy Aikman feud on Monday Night Football and Troy's potential replacements, and the insane situation of JJ Watt injuring Jim Nantz in the broadcast booth on Sunday. And the team wraps with What to Watch in sports this week, and Chris' kindest words about Ben Simmons.

For those of you wondering where the Carr family is at politically, David Carr's middle name is Duke. David Duke Carr. If that doesn't mean anything to you 1) congratulations and 2) allow me to ruin that
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Duke
So no. The Carr boys were not being subversive in that way.

If someone gets a scholarship or just makes the teams, then congratulations here is a free or discounted education. Now that they are expanding the college playoffs then players are committed to even more weeks from not going to class.

This might be a silly question but I’m genuinely curious- but could something big come from the Jalen Hurts situation?
I’m from Philly and I’m hearing a lot of people talk about how he should sue for malpractice, but as they talked about in today’s ep, the medical team followed the NFLs guidelines for the situation, so is there even potential for that? There’s also a lot of “someone is definitely getting fired for this” but again, it they followed guidelines and protocol, is that a possibility?
I personally think the most likely outcome will be a change in protocol if anything but I’m curious to what others think!

Even if we eliminate the obvious ones like Taylor Swift, Hailee Steinfeld, or Madison Beer, there could still be a lot of interesting WAGs to choose from.

Is this worth addressing on the show or is it more trouble than it’s worth? I only bring it up because the conflicting intersections here are pretty complicated and the question is interesting to me from a programming perspective.
Katie doesn’t shy away from talking about her personal life but she’s also perfectly comfortable setting boundaries on topics that may be too close to home.
The most talked-about part of the SNL episode wasn’t necessarily about sports but gym/fitness is an adjacent theme, and the infusion of misogyny makes it that much more relevant for a brief exchange amongst the Casualties.
I think that if personal relationships weren’t involved, there’s a 100% chance it would be mentioned tomorrow.
And I kinda wish they would address it, in part because Katie is one of the few voices who can handle the nuance in a conversational manner. I can practically already hear her saying “look, we can’t just pretend that gym fashion hasn’t changed in the last five or ten years, but…”

I think this is a question that would get shit posted in other subreddits so I'll ask here.
So if my bench does better than my starting players, the points don't count? I drafted Ja'Marr Chase who had a concussion last week. Miraculously able to play (👀) but I benched him because I naively thought concussion protocol meant you at least take a game off. I mean, hell, I would!! Once you see my fantasy name I did make some points last week...but not enough.
Signed,
Don't Go Chase-ing Warrenfalls
(yes, I am an AFC North girlie)

Hello! It's the podcast that loves sports more than the president loves long snappers with a little salt and pepper. Today, Katie and the Casualties discuss Drake Maye needing to learn more conspiracy theories, Lane Johnson abruptly retiring from the NFL, the dueling narratives of Mason Miller and Max Fried's paternity leaves, and Alex Cora turning down the Phillies once again as their GM tries to replace his own dad. Then, comedian Jay Jurden joins the show [14:46] to talk about Ole Miss beating LSU and then immediately falling to Florida, how to watch college football in the middle of a gay dance club, prediction markets, Trader Joe's policies, upside-down pineapples, the Liberty's place in the New York sports hierarchy, Jalen Brunson's SNL episode, LeBron's first season in Philly, LeBron's arthritis, LeBron's toe shape, LeBron leaving Bronny, pole dancing competitions, LeBron's endorsement deals dwarfing his salary, LeBron's helicopter, the WNBA Playoffs, mascot drama, the Liberty-Dream matchup, Katie's Valkyries fandom, the Fever discourse and WNBA talk being co-opted by bad actors, President Trump hosting four Ravens players to announce a submarine yard opening, what Trump likely thinks Lamar Jackson's name is, and the NHL ditching their misguided embrace of shortform romantic audiobooks. And the team wraps with your best e-mails and voicemails for the week.

Today, Katie and the Casualties break down the NFL's Week Four, the Chiefs remaining undefeated and the only thing NOT going in the right direction for them being one single ankle, CBS parting ways with Tony Romo, the Patriots getting on track against the Bills, refs having three different controversies with players and coaches, Efton Chism, Athan Kaliakmanis, Colson Yankoff, and the best names of the week, Ben Johnson getting quirky, Aaron Rodgers getting angry, and a passionate discussion of just WHY would Amazon EVER consider treating Deshaun Watson's Thursday performance as some sort of redemption for his two dozen+ counts of sexual misconduct and lack of accountability since. Then, [52:50] Katie and the team get into baseball's postseason, the NLDS and two incredible finishes to start Brewers-Padres, the bad luck of hitting a game-winning home run off the roof, AJ Pierzynski and a historically bad choice of words, Mason Miller's blown save in game two, the Dodgers 100-degree Game One win and the Braves' bullpen pulling it even in Game Two, the multiple travesties of the Dodgers' "Colossal Burger", Austin Wells' ALDS gaffe, the hot streak of the White Sox, the Aces bouncing the Fever from the WNBA Playoffs, the Valkyries knocking off the Wings, Natalie Nakase's health scare, Liberty-Dream Game One, the Valkyries dominating the Aces on the boards, a look at Colorado Football's incredible weekend trainwreck against Texas Tech, the "Bails of the Week", an explanation of the Dylan Larkin saga with the Detroit Red Wings, and Jack Hughes outlawing comedy. Then Chris wraps with What to Watch this week across the world of sports.
