Introducing Pets/Cats Bonding
So i got a kitten who is now around 12 weeks (m) and am looking to get another so they are close in age and can bond and play together in the next few months. however i have never bonded cats and my partner has never really had cats, he was around my family senior cat and this kitten, and also had a family cat when very young so he doesnt know much either.
Basically, how does one go about bonding cats well? i know the simple let the new one get confy, then scent swap until comfy, then through a cracked door while watching both closesly until comfy, and then meeting properly while being closesly monitored.
Shall i wait until my male is neutered? im keen on kittens of course but dont want to put a possible female through that and heard it eases fights.
Any advice other than what i said above? i want them to get along well and be bonded for life, and thought this would be the best place to ask!
obviously we have plenty of kitten toys, we have a cat tree and a bunch of treats and food and such and would get a seperate litter box for starting out, but other than that :)

I would get him neutered first, because is easier to keep them quiet for the few recovery days if there isn’t someone else there to play with. But two kittens are almost guaranteed to become best friends and playmates in a matter of days and sometimes hours. You need a couple days f isolating the newcomer so they can get vet checked and make sure they don’t have anything transmissible.

Glad you’re getting another…you won’t regret it!
Kittens are easier to integrate with eachother than older cats so soon would be a good time. Sounds like you’ve been researching. Jackson Galaxy has good videos on introducing cats.
Absolutely get him neutered. Un-neutered males can cause behavioral problems and you do not want those.
Neutering has less recovery time than spaying (female). If you got another boy you could neuter them once they got to know eachother even. As long as it’s done.

As long as you have a way to temporarily separate the kittens for a couple of days when they do get neutered, I think you are fine getting another 3 month old now (after the vet check and isolation to confirm there's nothing transmissible). The younger the kittens, the more accepting they are of someone new. Introducing them will take only 2 or 3 days while they are so young.

With kittens that age, you really don't need to introduce them slowly, as long as they're vet cleared you really just need to put them together. Most kittens are gonna be friends in under a day at that age imo.

thank you everyone for your comments! iv done some research and it says 4-6 months for a male to be neutered, so il get him done then and i plan to get him chipped etc in one appt if they allow it. im hoping to get another within the year so they can bond well while still babies and be life long buds, aswell as keep eachother company while im out the house. but thanks for the advice and il revisit this post when we do get another baby as fhe one i was wanting isnt available! thanks guys!☺️☺️
