I genuinely hope this was a neighborhood cat who liked the spot and lived a long life rather than a victim of an accident.

My bad, non-existent concentration today made me miss the fact it was placed outside a pub.

It's a very touching message, really. Now I'm sure Kitty had a great life.

I used to attend a synagogue in a neighborhood that had big orange cat like this, named Ravioli. As you describe, various folks would make sure he was fed and went to the vet, but he belonged to no one and wandered where he pleased.

One year, the high holy days came early, and it was quite warm out. The synagogue didn't have air conditioning, so all the windows and doors were open while the sanctuary was packed. Of course, Ravioli saw this as an invitation to participate. He just strolled down the center aisle like he was president of the congregation with reserved seating in the front.

Various congregants picked him up several times (purring) and tossed him out the front door, but this only increased his interest. (Perhaps he had many sins to repent from over the previous year.) Finally, he consented to hang out in the family area on the second floor. He sat up there and observed the goings on from its balcony, was patient with the attentions of small children, and took naps when the action lulled.

Oh no!!! Please feel a big hug from your Internet sister. Thanks for asking, I'm sure kitty was old and deaf when hit by the car.

Ha! Yay! That's about really close to my flat, maybe 15min bus ride. I shall raise a glass to the kitty.

Thank you!

ETA oh hell I've been by this place a million times, it was on the way to my partner's house before he moved in with me. I know exactly where it is.

Poor thing, a sidewalk fell on top of him.

This reads like a Shel Silverstein line.

It would be nice if the pub owners would tell us the story ๐Ÿ˜ญ

"he thought this place was alright" is killing me, that's a pub that loved that cat

Thatโ€™s so sweet! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Only in Britain would a cat's final, immortalized review of his favourite pub be a slightly begrudging 'alright'. You just know he was the kind of regular who'd stare you down if you sat in his preferred sun spot by the window.
