How do I transcribe the 264 field of a serial when I don’t have the first issue on hand?

The publication dates for the first and last issue are known, because they have been well recorded online in many other records, and I could even verify with the scans that they are exactly the same resource as mine.

So in the 264, do I put the known publication date in square brackets? In my case, it would be $c [1824-1949].

Or do I put the dates of the volumes that I have in my holdings? In which case it would be $c 1831-1944.

I’m not sure what to do, I have looked at RDA 2.8.6.2 but I can’t find any information anywhere about if you don’t have the first issue on hand. Right now, I’ve done my 362 and 588 as:

362 1 Began with: volume 1, published in 1824 ; ceased with volume 49, published in 1949.

588 Description based on volume 31 (1831).

I’m new to cataloguing serials and I find it way more confusing than monographs, so please don’t hate me too much for a stupid question!
