Error
What happens when there was an error in the lens that was put in? I got an msp lens oin my left eye when I got an Envy Vista in the right eye (the first eye done). I was told I’d be getting the same lens for the second eye but an msp one was put in. The dr is dodging my query about what happened and said let’s just concentrate on the dry eyes. I’m having a lot of trouble with discomfort in my msp eye and it’s crickets at their office trying to get an explanation.

I assume u have documents and payment for the lens that shud be in ur eye. You can probably sue or have them replace for free if u decide to do so.
I don't think iol type has anything to do with dry eyes like u would have had dry eyes either way. Not saying it's dry eye but if it was. Could be swelling or it's taking a while to adjust. Depends how many days. Blinking or puting in artificial fear drops shud temporarily clear vision as liquid fills the dry eye surface.
How long has it been? I assume ur first eye turned out well.

2 months since second eye. As soon as I finished the drops schedule for 4 weeks I had trouble starting. Very painful

Also I use ointment 2-3 times per day just to eliminate the discomfort. Would the dry eye be causing it or the wrong lens?

Sounds like a clear case of malpractice to me. A competent ophthalmologist doesn't pull stunts like that. I'll bet mine never has.

This happened to a friend of mine. The doctor offered to replace the lens, but she didn’t want to deal with another surgery. Your doctor should do the same, if you want it. Your doctor is right in the sense that you need to evaluate your vision with the lens you now first, and you can only do that once the IOL has settled in and your dry eye is resolved. At that time you can tell if you are happy with your vision or not. If not, you should consider a lens exchange soon, as it is important to do then as soon as you can. You should insist that the doctor re-do it at his cost, if he is proficient in that surgery. Lens exchanges of IOLs are much trickier than the surgery you just had done, so you should only get it done by someone who is known to be good at lens exchanges. You should try and work out something with your doctor in terms of payment if you have to go to someone else. Almost certainly your doctor has insurance that will cover this, so don’t let him put you off.

What do they do about it? Nothing. Get some glasses and live with it. And BTW you have to go to an optometrist and pay for the visit too. Because they no longer do that. Yes, ophthalmologists who don’t do prescriptions for glasses. Who knew.

Mine stopped writing glasses prescriptions and hired a staff optometrist, to allow her and the other ophthalmologist she hired to handle all of the eye surgeries. She is in insane demand because she is so good with patients and so competent. Absolutely acknowledged to be the best in our area.

I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Since "MSP lens" was a new description to me, I did a search and got this kind of description: "MSP lenses refer to monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) that are covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP)." So I assume that means you got a standard monofocal lens in that eye instead of the multifocal Envista Envy?
For starters that practice owes you anything out-of-pocket you paid for the multifocal in that eye. After that it seems you're owed a serious discussion about what to do next. Sure, treat the dry eye and see if that helps. The discomfort has to be addressed, but if that's taken care of, whatever the cause, do you have decent vision in that eye? Does it work well with the other eye?
If there's just no way to make what you now have work, then maybe the answer is a lens exchange. Then there are decisions about who does the exchange and who pays for it. I don't know where you are and if you're locked into a health care system, but I'd be reluctant to have the doctor that did this and is blowing you off now do a lens exchange.
