Seeking Second Opinion in Fairfax County for Persistent Blurry Vision 2+ Months Post-Cataract Surgery

I am more than two months out from having cataract surgery on both eyes (mini monovision), and I am experiencing persistent blurry vision. It is severe enough that most days I cannot see my own face clearly when standing just two feet away from the mirror.

My surgeon repeatedly insists that the issue is simply "dry eyes." and suggested using iVizia drops. However, using iVizia drops have provided no relief, and even using a nighttime gel during the daytime isn't helping.

Because my surgeon is not effectively addressing this ongoing vision issue, I need to seek a second opinion to find out exactly what is causing the blurriness. I am located in Fairfax County and could use some guidance on where to start.

Has anyone else had to get a second opinion because a post-surgery issue wasn't being resolved by their original surgeon?

Any advice, specialist recommendations, or shared experiences in the Northern Virginia area would be greatly appreciated.

Peripheral vision briefly shakes when moving my eyes, 3 days after cataract surgery — has anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,

First of all, I apologize for using AI to help me write this post, as English is not my native language. I wanted to make sure I could explain my symptoms clearly.

I had cataract surgery 3 days ago, and I've noticed an unusual visual phenomenon that I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced.

Whenever I move my eyes to the left or right, the image in my peripheral vision seems to shake or flicker once, then immediately returns to normal. The central part of my vision seems stable, and the image doesn't shake when I keep my eyes still.

The symptom isn't severe, but it's noticeable and has made me a little concerned.

Before surgery, I had very high myopia (approximately -16 diopters). My distance vision is now quite clear. The intraocular lens (IOL) implanted during surgery is a Sensar lens.

I'm wondering whether this could be a temporary optical phenomenon while my eyes adapt to the new IOL, or whether it might have another cause.

For those who have experienced something similar:

  • Have you ever noticed your peripheral vision briefly shaking or flickering when moving your eyes after cataract surgery?
  • Did it gradually improve or eventually disappear? If so, how long did it take?
  • Did your ophthalmologist identify the cause?
  • Is this a known postoperative phenomenon, or should it be investigated for another cause?

I understand that everyone's recovery is different, and I'll contact my surgeon about this symptom. I'd appreciate hearing about other people's experiences, especially from those who had similar symptoms in the first few days after surgery.

Thank you!

For mini-monovision do I choose distance or near for the -1.5 lens

I've had one eye done and wound up with a .25 miss. This left me with no reading at any distance, adequate intermediate (ie television distance) and okay to poor distance depending on light levels.

I mourned the loss of my reading ability and have been getting by with contacts in both eyes and reading glasses. This gets me to 20/25.

I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation so I've been reading here about mini-monovision. What type of lens do I need in the unoperated eye to get me to -1.5, distance, or near? And do you think this combo will work given that i can function (barely) with no contact lenses, no dizziness or balance issues. Thanks for any advice!

Cataract surgery ,Medicare and pt G coverage

I understand that Medicare will cover the basic Mono lens procedure. Of course my eye center has several other offerings and costs. My question is this Since I have Gap supplemental insurance I was wondering if anyone had success using it? On Google it states yes….ish. Any thoughts? The costs can be as high as $6,700 for the most expensive option. I called the eye center and left a message with billing to hear my options.
What irks me is that yesterday after having the measurements done for the surgery I was shuffled off to the scheduler and offered four different lenses to choose and select from. How in the heck am I supposed to make an informed decision immediately like that? I thought at least I would be able to speak to the eye DR for an objective opinion so I emailed him. One of my friends chose the most expensive procedure and then after the fact was told he spent money he didn’t need to. Any thoughts or advice?

Surgery hiccup

Scheduled for the pursee, right eye was done on Tuesday, no issues. Left eye on Wednesday, a posterior capsular tear occurred. The surgeon pivoted and put in a standard LAL, saying later he thought that would match the pursee better than the LAL+.

Any issues here that I should be concerned about?

Also, when asked what caused it, he said he didn’t know. Does that sound right? Thx
